Owings Mills woman dies after collision with tree
Shortly before 11 p.m., the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) responded to the intersection of Ashton Road and New Hampshire Avenue
There, they found 51-year-old Melissa Thomas of Owings Mills had lost control of her vehicle, struck a curb, left the roadway and then collided with a tree.

Despite lifesaving efforts, MCPD said she died at the scene.
At the time of the collision, Thomas was the driver and the only occupant of a white Honda Accord.

Boy, 17, identified as victim of fatal east Columbus party shooting
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Columbus police identified the teenager that was killed in a shooting at a Fourth of July party at an east side short-term rental house. Columbus police said that officers were called to the 800 block of Wilson Avenue in the Southern Orchards area at 2:41 a.m. Friday. An altercation occurred during a 'pop-up' party at the residence which led to multiple shots being fired and six people sustaining injuries. Three were taken to local hospitals by medics and one of those victims, identified as 17-year-old Cameron Moore, died at the hospital. The three other victims who were shot walked into a hospital for treatment. Of the six victims of the shooting, two were juveniles and four were adults. She knows first-hand the pain of losing a child to gun violence, and she wants Moore's family to know that they aren't alone. 'You are so supportive, and we're praying for you,' Thomas-St. Clair said. 'The community is going to wrap their arms around you and try their best to get help, for your justice. There will be a time, there will be a time when life gets a little different. I don't want to say better, but a little different, where two steps can be in front of you and just continue to be at the peace that Cameron is going to be with Him forever.' At the house where the shooting happened, police tape and articles of clothing remain. City leaders, including Mayor Andrew Ginther and Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin, took to social media in the hours after the shooting. New route debuts at Columbus Zoo's second Run Wild 5K Hardin said, in part, 'This kind of violence never has a place in our city, yet it keeps happening.' 'While violence in our city is at its lowest level in more than a decade, incidents like this are a stark reminder that we must stay vigilant in preventing harm to our youth and neighbors,' Ginther said in his statement. 'We are very optimistic with the work that's being done, but we know we can't stop, you know, sustainability is really important, and yes, under triple digits is where we want to be again,' Thomas-St. Clair said. The Southern Orchards Civic Association, a group in the neighborhood where the shooting happened, also took to social media, calling for unity in their community. In a Sunday statement, police said that the party had more than 100 people and that most of them were teenagers. CPD is asking for public assistance in continuing to investigate this shooting. Connecticut Office of Inspector General rules Windsor police officer not justified in firing gun at suspect
WINDSOR, Conn. (WTNH) — The Connecticut Office of Inspector General ruled that a Windsor police officer's use of deadly force was not justified after he shot at a man instead of using his Taser outside a convenience store in January. The inspector general said Officer Brandon Thomas, 34, found a 'suspicious' vehicle around 8:20 p.m. in the parking lot of a Tiger Mart gas station at 160 Windsor Ave on Jan. 30, 2025. The Windsor Police Department said Thomas saw a large bag of marijuana in plain view. Two people left the convenience store and walked toward the Jeep Liberty Sport, which had a license plate that matched another vehicle. The inspector general stated that when Thomas approached the pair about the misuse of the license plate, the driver, later identified as 21-year-old Geovanni Nunez, fled. Inspector general: Windsor police officer shot at fleeing suspect instead of using Taser Thomas chased Nunez across Windsor Avenue and into Keney Park. While chasing Nunez, the officer yelled, 'Stop running, or I'm going to f—ing tase you.' He then pulled out his actual firearm from its holster and fired one round at Nunez, the inspector general said. Thomas said, 'Oh, s—, I didn't mean to do that.' Nunez was not hit and was subsequently taken into custody and charged with interfering with the police and possession of a controlled substance. Police said they learned after the incident that Nunez had an outstanding warrant from Meriden police for first-degree assault. Thomas fell into a stream, and his body-worn camera became soaked. The inspector general stated, however, that the recording was recovered. Following his arrest, the inspector general said Nunez accused Thomas of shooting at him, and Thomas denied this, saying that he only used his Taser. 'Under the circumstances…Officer Thomas acted unlawfully and recklessly,' the inspector general said in his report. Thomas was arrested and charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and second-degree reckless endangerment. He was placed on limited duty after the incident. The Windsor Police Department released a statement on the incident. This was a mistake made in a high-stress, fast-evolving situation. The officer has served with the Windsor Police Department for just over three years and has no prior incidents involving questionable use of force. A third man who had no visible identification was also involved, per a report by KTLA 5. "I saw the commotion while driving, and when I slowed down, the kids shouted for help," Reed told the outlet. "They kept asking for a warrant. They told the officers they would stop resisting if they just showed them a warrant. One of the men said he had one but didn't show it." Reed told KTLA 5 that she called 911, reporting what she initially believed to be a possible kidnapping. Vargas reportedly broke free from the agents and ran into the courtyard of the nearby Del Mar Park Assisted Living Facility, followed closely by her children. The agents pursued, but the children intervened, attempting to physically shield their mother. "They formed a human wall," Reed said. "One of the kids clung to her, telling her, 'Don't let go!
