Janakrosha Yatra of BJP to conclude in Hubballi on May 11

The Hindu05-05-2025
The 'Janakarosha Yatra' launched by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against the Congress government in Karnataka on the issues of price rise, diversion of funds for guarantee schemes and Muslim appeasement will conclude in Hubballi on May 11.
MLC and Opposition Whip in Karnataka Legislative Council N. Ravikumar said that while the fight against the government of Karnataka on various issues would continue, the 'Janakrosha Yatra' would have its formal concluding ceremony in Hubballi. The yatrawas launched in Mysuru.
'A mega rally in which Central ministers, leaders of opposition and senior leaders will participate will be held at Moorusavir Mutt ground in Hubballi at 4 p.m. While the Central ministers from Karnataka will participate, we are awaiting confirmation on participation of other Central ministers and leaders in the concluding ceremony,' he said.
Elaborating on the reasons for launching the protest rally across Karnataka, Mr. Ravikumar said that ever since the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah-led government came into power, price rise has been a regular phenomenon. Till date, prices of around 50 products and services had been increased.
'It appears as if they (Congress) have a research team to find products left out from the list of price rise and tax. While claiming that they are for farmers and Dalits, the Siddaramaiah-led government has taken them for a ride by diverting the funds meant for their development and discontinuing the schemes launched for them by the previous BJP government. Muslim appeasement has reached its pinnacle. This government is not only anti-Hindu, it is anti-development. In his second term as CM, Mr. Siddaramaiah is a failed CM, with failure in every sector,' Mr. Ravikumar alleged.
He alleged under the present government, law and order had completely collapsed, state-sponsored murders were being carried out, and Karnataka had become a sleeper cell for terrorists.
On the hike in prices of fuel and LPG cylinder ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government came to power at the Centre, Mr. Ravikumar attributed it to fluctuation in the international market, but said that the money thus collected was being used for development works in various sectors.
He said that prior to the Hubballi event, 'Janakrosha Yatra' would be held in Kolar on May 7, Tumakuru and Chitradurga on May 8, Ballari and Vijayanagar on May 9, and Chikkaballapur on May 10.
Deputy Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Arvind Bellad alleged that all development work had been hit after the Congress came to power, and no fresh tender had been called for development work in his constituency. 'Through Janakrosha Yatra', we are highlighting how a common man has been hit due to price rise initiated by the present disposition. And the large gatherings at the protest rallies indicate people's anger against the government,' he said.
Mr. Bellad alleged that the present government is trying to blame the Centre for its failure to take up work on sanctioned projects. 'The rule is that the State Government should initiate work, show utilisation of funds, and then claim reimbursement from the Centre. However, Congress leaders were just blaming the Centre without showing any utilisation of funds for sanctioned projects,' he alleged.

Rahul Gandhi gets bail in case over allegedly defamatory remarks about Army

A court in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on Tuesday granted bail to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in a case pertaining to his allegedly defamatory remarks about the Army during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2022, Bar and Bench reported. Gandhi appeared in front of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Alok Verma after the Allahabad High Court dismissed his challenge in May against the summons issued in the case. The case pertains to comments made by Gandhi on December 16, 2022, about a clash between the Indian and Chinese armies along the Line of Actual Control in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang. The two sides had confronted each other with melee weapons on December 9, 2022, leading to injuries on both sides. Gandhi was granted bail by Verma on the condition that he furnish a personal bond of Rs 20,000 along with two sureties of the same amount. The case will be heard again on August 13. The remarks made by the leader of Opposition about the violence were made during the Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra, a march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir against the allegedly divisive policies of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. A former director of the Border Roads Organisation, Uday Shankar Srivastava, filed a defamation complaint against Gandhi. His lawyer claimed that the Congress leader's statements were derogatory and defamed the Indian Army.

FAQs Did the amendment pass? No. It was blocked in the House Rules Committee by a 7–5 vote, as per the Newsweek report. Is Trump involved in the Epstein case? There's no evidence he is named in the files or accused of wrongdoing.
