"Currently, work is on to upgrade the laboratories in 850 govt schools that were in poor condition. We have installed 22,939 smart boards in govt schools so far. The govt has also spent nearly Rs600 crore on the implementation of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, in the past three years. The state is planning to move for a special leave petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court in connection with the Madras high court's order on the RTE admission.
The RTE portal will be opened after that," the minister said.
Admitting that the govt schools were facing shortage of computer teachers, the minister said, "While the state has plans to introduce artificial intelligence and robotics in govt schools, a permanent solution to the teacher shortage is being worked out and will be resolved shortly. Meanwhile, temporary trainers have been appointed at the hi-tech labs to assist students."
He said around 9.8 lakh govt and aided school students were assessed under the State Level Achievement Survey to get a picture of the learning outcomes.
Addressing a meeting to review the State Level Achievement Survey, 2025, the minister stated that Valparai, Pollachi, Periyanaickenpalayam and Sulthanpet blocks in the district were among the best performers, while Thondamuthur and Sulur required attention.

"It is appreciated that the teachers have identified and accepted the weaknesses. With acceptance comes improvement. Even if students perform well in the board exams, it is important to focus on their learning outcomes right from Class I to IX. All pass methods in these Classes will reflect on the board exams, and students will face the consequences. To avoid such impacts, it is necessary to mould them at every Class.
Headmasters should motivate teachers to stay updated in their subjects, provide an interesting learning environment and simplify complex topics," the minister said.

Delhi mein dosti, galli mein kushti: KTR takes a jibe at BJP, Congress

Hyderabad: Taking a jibe at the Union Minister Amit Shah for stating that Telangana had become an ATM for Congress, the BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Monday asked what was the Centre doing for the last 18 months, and quipped that both the national parties were adopting 'Delhi mein dosti aur Gali mein kushti'. Rama Rao alleged that the Congress party, which has become the most dangerous to the Telangana society due to corruption, irregularities and scams, was protected by the BJP. Amit Shah, who had yesterday raised his voice that the Congress government in Telangana had become an ATM for the Delhi Congress, called KTR a 'new ghazini' who had forgotten that the BJP government was in power at the Centre and that he was the Home Minister. 'When Prime Minister of this country Narendra Modi accuses the Congress government in Telangana of collecting 'Rahul-Revanth tax' from builders and contractors, then the fact that no investigative agency at the Centre has conducted an investigation is a wonderful proof of the illegal relationship between the two parties,' KTR said. The BRS leader reminded that when Revanth Reddy awarded the Amrut works contract worth Rs 1,137 crore to his brother-in-law Srujan Reddy without following any rules, the Central government did not conduct a minimum investigation. He said that they had complained to the Union Minister with all the evidence, but the Modi government did not pay attention. He also lashed out at Revanth Reddy for violating all the rules and regulations in the illegal sale of forest lands in Kanche Gachibowli. He said that this is a big scam and that a financial fraud of Rs 10,000 crore has taken place, but the Modi government has not even given a notice even though the Supreme Court-appointed CEC (Centrally Empowered Committee) recommended a thorough investigation.

Strict action if negligence found in tiger deaths: Forest Minister

Bengaluru: As Bengaluru steadily transforms into a concrete jungle, Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Eshwar B Khandre has emphasized the importance of preserving the city's remaining green spaces. He announced that the government has reclaimed 120 acres of forest land in the Kadugodi plantation area to protect and promote green cover in the city. Responding to protests by BJP leaders at the Gandhi statue on Monday over the reclamation of this forest land, the minister made it clear that forest land cannot be allocated or approved for non-forest purposes without mandatory permissions from the Central Government and the Supreme Court. He clarified that Survey No. 1 in Kadugodi Plantation, located in Bidarahalli Hobli of Bengaluru East Taluk, spans 711 acres and was designated for sandalwood plantation in 1896. Later, in 1901, it was officially notified as reserve forest land under the Forest Rules of 1900. 'Any diversion of forest land for non-forest purposes without prior approval is strictly prohibited under central forest conservation laws and reinforced by Supreme Court rulings,' he stated. On the issue of the five unnatural tiger deaths in the Hoogyam forest range, Minister Khandre assured that suspects have already been arrested and legal proceedings are underway. 'If any negligence by forest officials is identified in the investigation, strict disciplinary action will be taken,' he declared.

Surprised by TN MLA's clean record, SC grants him bail in kidnap case

NEW DELHI: At a time when criminalisation of politics is on the rise, Supreme Court on Monday expressed surprise when it was told that Tamil Nadu MLA M Jagan Moorthy had no criminal antecedent and that led to the apex court granting him anticipatory bail in a kidnapping case of a boy. "It is a surprise on the positive side," said a bench of Justices Manoj Misra and N Kotiswar Singh when senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for the MLA, said the elected representative had no criminal background. Moorthy is the president of Puratchi Bharatham party, which is an ally of main opposition party AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. "If the petitioner is arrested in connection with FIR registered at Thiruvalangadu police station, he shall be released on a personal bond of Rs 25, 000 subject to the undertaking that he shall cooperate in the investigation and will not threaten the witnesses or tamper the evidence," the bench said in its order. Moorthy approached SC challenging Madras HC's June 27 order dismissing his plea for anticipatory bail. He claimed being framed in the case on the basis of a confession statement of a co-accused, without any direct or corroborative evidence linking him to the alleged offence.
