Historic WTC25 Final display seals Player of the Month award

Aiden Markram's pivotal all-round performance in the ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia at Lord's has earned him the ICC Men's Player of the Month award for June 2025.
The 30-year-old made 136 runs and claimed two important wickets to help the Proteas break their 27-year wait for a senior ICC trophy.
The South African opener delivered when it mattered most, scripting one of the finest performances in the history of the competition to guide his side to their maiden World Test Championship triumph.
"It is a privilege to receive this award. To contribute to a ICC World Test Championship win for our team and South Africa is something that means a lot to me," Markram said upon winning the award.
'Winning the final at Lord's is a historic moment for South African cricket, and it is something we will all remember forever. This victory was only possible due to the combined efforts of the entire team, with crucial contributions from KG (Kagiso Rabada) and Tembs (Temba Bavuma)."
Markram's impact began with the ball, when he was called upon to break a growing Australian partnership between Steve Smith and Beau Webster. He responded instantly, removing Smith with just his sixth delivery, setting the tone for what would become a match to remember.
His first outing with the bat didn't go as planned with the right-hander being dismissed without scoring by Mitchell Starc.
But it was in the second innings that Markram truly came into his own. With South Africa trailing by 74 runs and Australia adding a valuable 59-run 10th wicket stand, the pressure was firmly on. Markram stepped up, taking the final wicket of Hazlewood before turning the tide with the bat.
Chasing a daunting target of 282, he anchored the innings with poise and determination. Despite the early loss of Ryan Rickelton, Markram forged vital partnerships with Wiaan Mulder and captain Temba Bavuma.
When Bavuma suffered an injury scare and doubted his ability to continue, Markram's reassurance in the dressing room spurred a gritty partnership with his captain that took South Africa to the brink of glory.
Markram eventually fell for a masterful 136, in an innings filled with composure, grit, and shot-making of the highest order.
His knock didn't just win a final, it etched his name into history in a long-awaited triumph. Men's Player Of The MonthNewsAiden Markram

Dominant pacers hand England 2-1 series edge at Lord's

After two gripping contests that went down to the final day, England produced a dominant performance at Lord's to secure a thrilling win and take a 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series against India as part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27. Defending a target of 193, Jofra Archer (3-55) and Ben Stokes (3-48) grabbed three apiece, with able support from Brydon Carse (2-30) and Chris Woakes (1-21) pulled off the job for the home side. The Ben Stokes-led side had made early inroads late on Day 4, reducing India to 58/4 by stumps. Jofra Archer was at the heart of the assault on the final day, setting the tone early on Day 5 by castling Rishabh Pant in just the third over after the restart. KL Rahul, having made a commanding 39 off 58 at the top, was next to fall, having been undone by a vicious nip-backer from Stokes. Archer then delivered a spectacular caught and bowled to dismiss Washington Sundar, picking up his third wicket of the innings and leaving India reeling at 82/7. A budding partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy threatened to mount a fightback, but Chris Woakes struck just before lunch to break the stand and edge England closer to victory. Jasprit Bumrah showed resistance alongside Jadeja in the post-lunch session, but the skipper's attempt to pull Stokes ended in the hands of substitute fielder Sam Cook, ending the partnership. Jadeja, the ICC's No.1 ranked Test all-rounder, continued to battle on, bringing up his fourth consecutive half-century of the series, but it wasn't enough to deny England the win. The game came to a close after Shoaib Bashir's flighted delivery trickled down the face of Mohammed Siraj's bat, into the crease, and logging back on the leg stump to bowl India out for 170 and give India the series lead. Earlier, England won the toss and opted to bat first, putting up 387 runs on the board. Joe Root led the charge with a sublime 37th Test century, placing him among the top five century-makers in the format's history. India responded strongly, matching England's total to the run - a rare occurrence that marked just the ninth time in Test history where both teams posted identical first-innings scores. Rahul anchored the reply with a composed century, supported well by Rishabh Pant (74) and Ravindra Jadeja (72). India's bowlers then delivered a clinical effort in the second innings to bowl England out for 192. Washington Sundar was the standout, claiming four crucial wickets to set up a manageable target for the visitors. Despite Jadeja's lone-warrior knock of 61*, the final innings belonged to England's pace attack, as Archer, Stokes, and Woakes combined to rip through the Indian lineup and hand the home side a commanding win. The fourth Test will begin at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday, 23 July. ICC World Test Championship, 2025/27News

Siraj fined for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

India fast bowler Mohammad Siraj has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the fourth day of the third match of their ICC World Test Championship series against England at Lord's on Sunday. Siraj was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to ' using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.' In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of Siraj, for whom it was the second offence in a 24-month period, taking his tally of demerit points in a 24-month period to two. Siraj received his earlier demerit point during the second Test against Australia in Adelaide on 7 December 2024. Sunday's incident occurred in the sixth over of England's second innings, when Siraj, after dismissing opener Ben Duckett, celebrated excessively at close proximity to the dismissed batter. Siraj admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Ahsan Raza and fourth umpire Graham Lloyd levelled the charge. Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee, and one or two demerit points. NOTES TO EDITORS: * When a player reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points and a player is banned ** Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whatever comes first for the player *** Demerit Points to remain on a Player or Player Support Personnel's disciplinary record for a period of twenty-four (24) months from their imposition following which they will be expunged
