Guava Girl Beauty Isn't Just An Aesthetic, It's a State of Mind

Vogue18-06-2025
A new trend has been born: The Guava Girl. Inspired by the sun-kissed radiance of the juicy tropical fruit, the Guava Girl seems to be the leading beauty archetype for Summer 2025—at least according to social media. But what exactly does this mean? Here's everything you need to know about the Guava Girl beauty trend—and how to embody it yourself.
The Guava Girl state of mind
The 'Guava Girl' hashtag has certainly been gaining traction in recent months. Its rise in popularity can be explained by a common thread running through the entire beauty industry for Summer 2025: guava as a key ingredient and color. Think: glosses, blushes, creams, and other fragrances with the fragrance and hue of the quintessential tropical fruit.
But while guava is the inspiration and the mascot, the Guava Girl trend is not just an aesthetic. It's also about embodying a sunny state of mind and exuding an inner fire and buena onda, or a 'good vibe.' Think: Passionate, festive, joyful, and light.
The Guava Girl trend borrows from the badalada mantra of Brazil, which means something like 'to shine.' To be badalada is to express a vibrant, spontaneous, and free-spirited energy, asserting your personality in a way that radiates from within.

The Guava Girl aesthetic
Of course, a certain color can't help but exude this state of mind: the punchy-pink of the guava fruit. Thus, the rosy-orange shade is the signature of the Guava Girl—and, also, summer 2025. To adopt it, consider these key elements for a Guava Girl summer that's natural, radiant, and breezy:
Dewey skin : Highly moisturized, the skin has a shimmering look that calls to mind humid, tropical days and nights.

11 best modest swimsuits under $100 for summer 2025 — shop my recommendations from Amazon, Adidas, Lululemon & more

These full-coverage options are lightweight, breathable and stylish. For far too long, I felt excluded when it comes to swimwear. I dress modestly, which for me means full-coverage clothing that covers everything but the face, hands and feet — even when in the water. Growing up, I felt like swimming was never really an option due to the lack of modest swimwear in the market. Luckily, modest swimsuits began to pop up more frequently, and now there are tons of options across styles and coverage preferences — including long swim tops, leggings, swim caps, swim hijabs and more. My personal go-to? A pair of swim leggings, a tunic-style rash guard and a swim hijab. I also love to have a swim skirt and cover-up on hand for extra coverage. If you're looking for a modest swimsuit, I've rounded up some of the best ones I've come across below. They're all under $100, and perfect for summer 2025. IDOPIP Three-Piece Muslim Swimsuit $47 at Amazon A three-piece-swimsuit that is the epitome of modest swimwear — full-length leggings, a full-length rash guard top and a hijab swimming cap. This set not only provides full coverage, but also UV protection. The fabric is lightweight, quick-drying and breathable, making it a comfortable and cute option for both in and out of the water. ⭐ Rating: 3.9/5 stars 🏅 Promising review: "It looks good and after getting wet it, won't attach to the body which is great." Etsy Modest Activewear/Swimwear Hoodie $77 at Etsy This swimwear hoodie is waterproof, high-neck and equipped with a hood that fully covers the head. When paired with swim leggings it makes for a great looser-fitting option. ⭐ Rating: 4.1/5 stars 🏅 Promising review: "‏I absolutely adore this hoodie! It's incredibly comfortable and the fit is just right, making it ideal for hijabi women." Adidas 3-Stripes Swim Leggings $44 $110 at Adidas These leggings are soft, comfortable, stretchy and high-rise — and perfect for pairing with a swim tunic or rash guard. These are actually a personal favourite of mine because they are available in larger sizes, which can be hard to find in modest swimwear. ⭐ Rating: 4.3/5 stars 🏅 Promising review: "‏These are my favourite swim leggings. They're great quality, super comfy and look great." La Vie en Rose Black Skirt Bikini Bottom $40 at La Vie En Rose Pro-tip: If a rash guard feels too short, a skirt is great to layer over swim leggings for extra coverage. CaptainSwim Women Modest Muslim Swimsuit $59 at Amazon If you're looking for something less form-fitting, this is a great option. The top is loose and breathable while still not being see-through. Both the top and bottom also feature a drawstring, which makes it easy to tighten as needed. ⭐ Rating: 3.7/5 stars 🏅 Promising review: "‏Modest and functional swimsuit. Always get compliments when I use!" Woman Within Chlorine Resistant Long-Sleeve Mock Neck Swim Tee $27 $90 at Woman Within This longer swim tee is great for pairing with leggings. It even has a mock collar for additional neck coverage. ⭐ Rating: 4.5/5 stars 🏅 Promising review: "‏I love how light the material is. Feels great on my skin." East Essence Black Overlap Modest Printed Yoke Detailing Swim Suit With Cap $70 $140 at East Essence A full set cap with a looser fit — perfect for summer. The best part? This suit is available in an extensive size range, as well as various length options. Penningtons Textured Dotted Long-Sleeve Rashguard with Built-In Bra $54 $90 at Penningtons This rash guard has a built-in bra, which is always great. The colour and pattern also make for a more vibrant option that's still full-coverage and modest — which can sometimes be hard to find. La Vie en Rose Long Gauze Shirt $46 at La Vie en Rose Even modest swimwear can still be form-fitting, so I always carry a cover-up to throw on when getting out of the water. IDOPIP Muslim Burkini Swimsuits $78 at Amazon This four-piece set has all the components of a modest swimsuit — a skirt, leggings, rash guard and swim cap. This is especially great for someone who may not want to commit to a certain style and wants to change things up as needed. Lululemon Women's Lightweight Performance Hijab $42 at Lululemon Many modest swimsuits do come with a swim cap, but not necessarily a full coverage hijab. If you're looking for additional coverage, this pinless performance hijab is quick-drying, stretchy and can fit under any sports shirt. ⭐ Rating: 4.3 /5 stars 🏅 Promising review: "Best sports hijab for the summer and any outdoor activities."

Viral Carrot Salad (TikTok) — Review & Recipe

Every week, without fail, I buy a five-pound bag of organic carrots. Even if we have barely made a dent in the previous week's carrots, I click 'add to cart' like it's my job. Ok, maybe it is kind of my job as a dietitian and a recipe developer, but you get it! While I serve salads every night with dinner, I often look for lettuce-free salads that don't wilt, are even better the next day (because no one wants limp lettuce for leftovers!), and use up what I have in the fridge. That's why I was so excited to stumble across Cassie Yeung's viral carrot salad on TikTok. With over 19.9 million views, I knew I had to try it. This salad is similar to Korean Carrot Salad, or Morkovcha, thought to have come about when Koreans in the Soviet Union couldn't find ingredients to make their traditional dishes, like kimchi. Instead, they used what they could find to make a carrot salad that was vinegary, based on Korean banchan — small dishes typically served with rice. Since Cassie's video first went viral earlier this year, many have made their own versions of this dish: some using maple syrup and fish sauce, others with added honey and lime. Even Cassie made a different version using raw red onions, dill, garlic, red wine vinegar, olive oil, lemon, and Calabrian chili. It reminds me of a carrot salad I often make with grated carrots, Dijon mustard, red wine vinegar, honey, parsley, and sunflower seeds. Many other influencers have tried their hand, from Basic with Bails, and Baked by Melissa, Kale Junkie, and publishers from Eating Well and Real Simple; each adding their own spin to the dish — and they all love it. Hey, you! Wanna cook thousands of easy recipes on your phone in step-by-step mode — with helpful video tutorials? Download the free Tasty app right now. For the purposes of this post, I followed Cassie's original recipe. She starts by using a vegetable peeler to thinly shave the carrots into ribbons. While she doesn't give exact measurements, I spied around eight or nine carrots, so I tried to do the same. Spoiler, I had only seven carrots left. While using the peeler is easy, I always find a way to cut myself when using it in a hurry, so I took my time with these carrots. I cut vegetables all day long, but I always manage to hurt myself using a peeler, go figure! I ended up with these funky-shaped carrots. Not sure how to add them, I snacked on a couple, and threw the rest into the freezer to make into vegetable stock later. And then my dog begged for one, proceeded to take it onto the couch, and stain the couch. A problem for another day! I added a couple of roughly chopped green onions along with sesame seeds. I only have black sesame seeds, so feeling fancy, I threw a tablespoon of those in as well. Finally, I grated a clove of garlic (I spy my favorite kitchen tool, the zester/microplane!). Let this be your sign to a) buy a zester, and b) stop using jarred minced garlic. If I had fresh ginger, that would be a delicious addition as well. Cassie's dressing is simple, albeit measured with her heart. It's simply sesame oil, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and chili crisp, which you gently massage into the carrot ribbons. She was smart to use a glove, because my hands might smell like sesame oil for the next week. I added a healthy amount of chili crisp on top. I've recently lost my ability to eat spicy food, so I went for a mild chili crisp for a little added flavor and crunch. At this point, it kind of looks like my 'carrot lox' I make. In Cassie's video, she claims that she's eating her skincare, as carrots are good for hormonal health. Judging by her beautiful, dewy glow, I'd buy just about any skin care she was selling. Carrots are indeed good for overall health, including skin health. They are full of nutrients like beta-carotene (which converts to Vitamin A). Beta-carotene can help the skin prevent damage from UV radiation and free radicals. They are also a good source of vitamins C and E. While any vegetables are going to be beneficial to your health, I'd still lather up with your favorite sunscreen — don't just rely on those carrots! She eats hers right out of the bowl with chopsticks, and never wanting to add a dirty dish to the pile, I did the same. This was a part of my lunch, so I also added some baked tofu on top for added protein. Cassie's friends apparently laugh at her for craving vegetables, but if all carrots tasted like this… I would, too! This might be my new favorite way to use up those leftover carrots. I might add cucumber ribbons to my salad next time, along with some mint or cilantro and a sliced avocado to make it more filling. All in all, this is going to be on my vegetable rotation!
