The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, affirmed on Monday in Algiers the importance of continuing to enhance the competitiveness of national products and working to ensure self-sufficiency and promote exports, especially in the industrial sector, which has witnessed remarkable development in recent years.
During his inauguration of the 56th edition of the Algiers International Fair, where he visited the pavilions of many national, public, and private institutions, the President of the Republic urged economic operators to 'raise the bar of ambition' in investment and continue working to increase competitiveness and improve the quality of national products.
The President of the Republic praised the progress made by many sectors, especially mechanical industries, military industries, and textiles, emphasizing the need to work on strengthening export capabilities in parallel with contributing to reducing imports.
The President of the Republic stopped over for a long time at the military industries pavilion, where he listened to detailed explanations about the activities of a number of institutions operating in the field of communications, military installations, and weapons manufacturing, especially the Directorate of Military Industries, the Mechanical Construction Company in Khenchela, and the Central Company for the Renewal of Signal Equipment.
The President of the Republic also expressed his admiration for the level of achievements made by these institutions, especially in the field of optical fibers, the manufacturing and maintenance of signal equipment, and the manufacturing of explosives, and at the National Institute for Cartography and Remote Sensing affiliated with the Ministry of National Defense.
Also at the Ministry of National Defense pavilion, the President of the Republic ordered the Minister of National Education to involve national institutions, including those affiliated with the National People's Army, in implementing the project of supplying educational institutions with electronic tablets.
He also stressed the need for the contribution of both the institutions affiliated with the National People's Army and the National Electronic Industries Company 'ENIE', as well as private institutions, to the project supervised by the Ministry of Education, which is concerned with providing students with electronic tablets, calling for 'covering at least 50 to 60 percent' of the needs of educational institutions for computer equipment with local products.
On this occasion, the President of the Republic highlighted the contribution of the military establishment to supporting the national economy with various products, which would reduce the import bill, especially for optical fibers. The President of the Republic affirmed in this regard that the import of optical fibers will be prohibited unless approved by the Ministry of National Defense, with the imminent launch of a special optical fiber unit affiliated with the same ministry.
Upon stopping at the pavilion of two emerging companies, the President of the Republic praised the significant progress made by the country in this field, reiterating that efforts are continuing to 'reach the first or second rank in Africa for the national economy.'
The President of the Republic also visited the pavilion of the 'GETEX' Textile and Leather Industry Group, where he listened to a presentation on the group's performance, which has witnessed a qualitative leap in recent years in terms of diversifying production, improving quality, and developing and modernizing distribution methods in partnership with emerging companies active in e-commerce.
Still in the industrial field, and during his visit to the VMS company pavilion, which specializes in motorcycles and light vehicles, the President of the Republic urged economic operators to raise their ambition to invest more and contribute to creating added value and job opportunities.
Here, he saluted the company's officials for the successes they have achieved by diversifying their products, such as motorcycles and light transport vehicles aimed at young investors, and used in trade, services, and by artisans.
In the same pavilion, the President of the Republic ordered the Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency to facilitate the implementation of an investment project for the institution 'before the end of this month.'
The project involves the construction of an industrial complex for various types of bicycles in the wilaya of Bouira.
As for the 'Hassnaoui Group' pavilion, the President of the Republic emphasized the importance of the projects undertaken by this private group, especially in the agricultural sector, through seed production, which, according to the explanations provided, will allow for a reduction in the cost of these inputs for farmers, contributing to reducing imports and enhancing the country's self-sufficiency.
After that, the President of the Republic stopped for a long time at the pavilion of the Algerian General Mechanical Company (AGM) – Sidi Bel Abbes unit, where he received a detailed explanation about the activities carried out by this institution specializing in the production of public works and construction equipment, as well as agriculture, in addition to its production capacities. In this pavilion, the President of the Republic stressed the need to 'meet national needs and then move towards export.'To achieve this goal, the President of the Republic called on officials of this institution to approve the implementation of a full-time work system (24 hours/24).
This year's exhibition, held under the slogan 'For Joint and Sustainable Cooperation,' features 684 exhibitors, including 145 foreign institutions representing 31 countries from the five continents.

President Tebboune Defends Solidarity with Wounded Arab Countries
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said on Saturday that sustainable development in the Arab region must be based on the principle of solidarity with sister Arab countries suffering from crises and wars. Tebboune highlighted Algeria's commitment to actively participating in various initiatives to strengthen Arab cooperation, embodying economic integration. In a speech delivered on his behalf by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, during the fifth session of the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, held in Baghdad, President Tebboune said: 'Discussions about sustainable development in the Arab region must be based on the principle of solidarity with the wounded countries of our nation, starting with occupied Palestine and extending to the rest of the sister Arab countries suffering from the scourges of crises, conflicts, and wars.' He explained that 'the security and prosperity of our Arab region will only be achieved through the recovery of these countries, the elimination of the injustice and oppression imposed upon them, and their return to the path of stability, growth, and prosperity.' He reiterated Algeria's commitment to contributing to Arab economic integration. He also stressed that 'achieving Arab economic integration must not remain a deferred dream passed down from generation to generation. Despite the growth achieved in recent years, intra-Arab trade still does not exceed 8% of the total trade of Arab countries with the rest of the world. The same applies to inter-Arab investments, which also experience unfair disparities from one Arab country to another, with their low figures.' The President of the Algerian Republic emphasised that the fundamental components for achieving Arab economic integration include 'the full implementation of the Arab Free Trade Area, the development of inter-Arab transport networks, and the creation of banking, financial, and insurance mechanisms.' He considered that the goals of economic construction and sustainable development are 'closely linked to the requirements of Arab national security and to our responsibility to enhance the capabilities of Arab peoples, with both current and future generations.' Paris's Unlawful Discriminatory Attitude Against Algerians
The escalating Algerian-French diplomatic crisis reveals the limited cards the French authorities have. This explains their position to take a dangerous but despicable decision to target the Algerian community residing in France, a move that could escalate the crisis to the level of a rupture. In the latest development in this regard, French government spokesperson Sophie Primas said on Thursday, May 15, 2025, that 'the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the President of the Republic, and the Prime Minister are working today on other, more important measures, particularly regarding a portion of the Algerian community, to move forward on other issues.' This statement followed a cabinet meeting. For the first time since the outbreak of the crisis, the French government has spoken openly and without equivocation about targeting the Algerian community residing in France. This position is described as more than cowardly, as it seeks to weaken the Algerian authorities by targeting innocent Algerians who have nothing to do with the ongoing conflict between the two countries. However, the response to this provocation from members of the Algerian community was quick. In a statement to Echorouk from Marseille, Omar Jalil, president of the Federation of Algerians in Marseille, expressed his rejection of the French government spokesperson's statement, considering it a 'violation of the law and discrimination in the name of the state' against the Algerian community, which numbers millions. Omar Jalil declared, 'The Algerian community in France supports its country, Algeria, in its diplomatic iron fist with France.' He said, 'At a time when the escalation between the two countries has reached its peak, the Algerian community we represent declares its massive mobilisation to express its unwavering commitment and support for the sovereign positions of the Algerian state, in the face of the interference and provocations of the French far right.' The Federation mobilised 'a widespread movement on social media of the Algerian community, highlighting the solidarity of millions of Algerians residing in France, Europe, and the world in the face of what we, Algerians residing in France, consider to be unfair and arrogant treatment by the French authorities.' Omar Jalil affirmed that 'the Federation rejects all forms of guardianship or diplomatic bargaining, and emphasises that the Algerian state is free and sovereign. We also reject France's continued behaviour based on neocolonial reflexes, believing it can impose its dictates on a people liberated by sacrificing their lives.' The Federation of Algerians in Marseille confirmed that 'French government spokesperson Sophie Primas has crossed an unacceptable level of verbal violence by discriminating between communities and exploiting her position.' Her statements are dangerous and violate the rule of law, confirming what the Federation has condemned for years. They also express an obsession and a desire to criminalise Algerians, whose dignity refuses humiliation. 'Sophie Prima's threats will not silence us, and will only push us to strengthen our unity and our loyalty to Algeria. If the French authorities choose arrogance, contempt, and repression, our people's cohesion and our solidarity with our country's authorities know neither fear nor oblivion. This is because the Algerian community is not a group under guardianship, but rather a community comprising millions of men and women, steadfast in their attachment to their original homeland, Algeria, threatened because of their origins or nationality,' Omar Jalil asserted. According to Omar Jalil, this crisis will push Algeria to 're-establish a fair partnership between the two countries,' and, in turn, 'put an end to a bilateral relationship based on French dominance. We are ready to assume our responsibilities in France because acts of revenge against the community are on the rise, and we see them daily. We will remain loyal to the nation's principles and will make sacrifices for this.' For his part, MP Saad Laanani, a representative of the Algerian community in France, told Echorouk that the statement issued by the French government spokesperson was 'a dangerous escalation, demonstrating beyond any doubt its weakness and inability to confront the firm will of the Algerian people, represented by its President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.' From a legal perspective, the statement is considered 'a threat to Algerian citizens and, at the same time, a blatant provocation against citizens with French citizenship. This constitutes discrimination against them and a serious regression in human and civil rights.' He said he had informed the relevant parties of these threats, noting that 'their goal is to destabilise Algeria and undermine the unity of its people to exploit its resources, which is the very essence of neo-colonialism.' He added that 'all Algerians, both at home and abroad, must be fully aware of what is being plotted against them and hold fast to the bonds of the homeland.' Actor Ahmed Benhassir, who resides in France, also condemned Sophie Prima's statement. Speaking to Echorouk from France, he said, 'I condemn the statements made by the French government spokesperson attacking the Algerian community in France.' He emphasised that 'Algeria is an independent and sovereign state, and we stand behind President Tebboune, who has honoured us worldwide. As an artist and like other artists, I stand with my country, Algeria.'
