Over 5k passengers penalised for travelling without ticket in Sonepur division
"The massive single-day drive yielded a total fine collection of Rs 38, 78,205. The drive was aimed at ensuring a safer and more comfortable journey for genuine passengers in the reserved coaches of long distance mail and express trains particularly in the peak summer travel season," said Sonepur divisional railway manager (DRM) Vivek Bhushan Sood, adding that ticket-checking staff, railway protection force (RPF) personnel and divisional commercial officers coordinated in the drive.
According to Sonepur senior divisional commercial manager (senior DCM), Raushan Kumar, the drive also led to a16% increase in the sale of unreserved tickets, indicating a positive behavioural shift among regular commuters following the enforcement action. "The surge in legitimate ticket sale enhances revenue while helping to maintain order and safety in both unreserved and reserved coaches," the DRM said, adding the campaign was not just about revenue generation, but upholding discipline and improving travel experience to passengers across the division.
In addition, the Sonepur division has decided to continue such operations at regular intervals to deter habitual offenders and encourage responsible travel habits among commuters in the division, he said.

ED arrests Bobby Patel, gets 4-day remand in money laundering, human trafficking case
The Ahmedabad Zonal Office of Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested human trafficker Bharatkumar Rambhai Patel alias Bobby Patel, said a statement on Thursday. Bobby Patel, who has cases against him in Gujarat, West Bengal and Delhi for illegally sending Indian nationals abroad, was arrested by the ED under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Patel was produced before the Special Judge (PMLA), Mirzapura Court, Ahmedabad, which remanded him to ED custody for four days custody, the agency said in the statement. The ED said that it had initiated its investigation against Patel and others based on an FIR registered for illegally sending Indian citizens abroad since 2015 by Sola High Court Police Station in Ahmedabad City. The ED said that its probe allegedly revealed that Patel has been involved in sending 'desirous Indian nationals abroad illegally for exorbitant consideration on the basis of bogus or fabricated documents for getting visas of different countries with duplicate or bogus passports used as genuine by impersonating the passengers wrongly'. For this purpose, Patel and others, 'used to collect Rs 60 to Rs 75 lakh for one passenger, Rs 1 to 1.25 crore for a couple (husband and wife) and Rs 1.25 to 1.75 crore if children were also accompanying the passengers abroad'. In India, the ED said, multiple FIRs have been registered against Patel in Gujarat, Delhi and West Bengal. The 'Proceeds of Crime (POC) generated in this case are valued at Rs 7 crore (approx)', said the ED. Further investigation into the matter is under progress.

Married woman can't level ‘false promise of marriage' allegation: Kerala HC
Kochi: High court has stated that a married woman cannot claim that she was induced into sexual relations on the false promise of marriage. The bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas made the observation while granting bail to an accused in a case where he allegedly sexually assaulted a married woman on the pretext of marriage, threatened to publish her photos and videos, and borrowed a total sum of Rs 2.5 lakh. He further submitted that a reading of the FIR indicates that the case is primarily based on a financial claim and the allegation of rape on the promise of marriage has been raised only to compel the petitioner to yield to her unlawful demands. The petitioner was arrested on June 13 and has been in custody since. Upon perusal of the records and previous decisions of the court, the bench observed that it is prima facie doubtful whether the offence under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) is attracted, as a promise to marry cannot arise when one of the parties is already in a subsisting marriage. Additionally, the offence under Section 84 BNS, pertaining to enticing, taking away, or detaining a married woman with the intent to have illicit intercourse, is bailable, and therefore, the continued detention of the petitioner is not warranted, the court noted. Further, the court granted him bail on execution of a bond for Rs 50,000 with two solvent sureties each for the like amount, to the satisfaction of the court having jurisdiction.

Patna: In a late-night crackdown, police arrested five people — both men and women — in compromising situations during a raid on a residential premises near Energy Park in Patna's Board Colony. According to police, she shared photographs through her profile to attract clients and fixed each deal for approximately Rs 4,000. "The operation was conducted following a tip-off received by the Patna SSP's cell team about illegal activities in the house," said Shastrinagar SHO Amar Kumar. He added that police also recovered a scooter from the premises, bearing a 'press' sticker, which was allegedly used to transport clients or people involved in the operation. Meanwhile, ADG (weaker sections) Amit Kumar, during a press conference at police headquarters, identified Kishanganj and Araria as major hotspots for and illegal sex trade in Bihar. He also flagged Arwal, Nalanda and Begusarai districts as emerging centres for such illicit activities. The ADG added that districts including Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Motihari, Bettiah and Rohtas have become prominent for orchestra-linked operations, which have led to multiple rescue missions. "We are continuing investigations to trace any links to larger trafficking networks operating across the region," he said.
