Jaxson Dart named New York Giants' Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate
When the New York Giants drafted quarterback Jaxson Dart out of the University of Mississippi, head coach Brian Daboll made it clear that veteran Russell Wilson was the starting quarterback.
Although that still seems to be the case, over the last couple of weeks, there has been speculative chatter that the Giants have not ruled out starting their rookie to start the season.
Pro Football Network recently released a list of the top Offensive Rookie of the Year candidates for all 32 NFL teams, and Dart was the top candidate for Big Blue.

How much Jaxson Dart will play in 2025 is still unknown. However, what we do know is that the Offensive Rookie of the Year award has historically been given to quarterbacks, with 11 such winners since the year 2000.
Dart's 2024 season with the Ole Miss Rebels shouldn't be understated. He had a QB+ grade of 90.5 last season in Oxford, the highest of any quarterback in the FBS and the 15th-highest QB+ grade since 2019. If Brian Daboll can get Dart reproducing similar numbers in his rookie season, then the award could very well be heading to the Big Apple.
Realistically, Dart is the Giants' candidate by default, as the team's draft class consists of only four offensive players.
Other than Dart, the Giants have offensive lineman Marcus Mbow (fifth round), running back Cam Skattebo (fourth round), and tight end Thomas Fidone (seventh round), all of whom have to climb the depth chart to make the starting lineup.
In Dart's case, it's well documented that Daboll is pretty enamored with his rookie quarterback. With the Giants' schedule being among the most difficult in the NFL, if the team's record isn't promising in the early part of the season, we could see Dart sooner rather than later.
Depending on how much Dart plays, he could certainly be an Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate, especially with a big-time target like Malik Nabers to throw the ball to.

In an offseason full of change for the Jacksonville Jaguars, which of the many moves made between free agency and the NFL draft would you consider their best? Rather than focusing solely on player acquisitions that were made this offseason--we can do that at a later time--I'm going to take a more holistic approach to answering this question. Hiring James Gladstone as the GM At the end of the day, it is the players who make the plays and win the games on Sundays, but getting to that point often starts with strong leadership. Coming from a successful organization in the LA Rams, Gladstone brings unique experiences, systems, and thought processes to Jacksonville that can help reshape the roster and organization fairly quickly. Advertisement But even more important than that is Gladstone has a very clear vision for where he wants this organization to go and the path to getting there. Ultimately, we won't know if the Jaguars are on the right track until games are played on Sundays and we have a large enough sample size to evaluate, but with this new leadership structure, it certainly feels like Jacksonville is heading the right direction and doing so quickly. Hiring head coach Liam Coen As many players have described, there is a tangible energy in the Jaguars' facility this offseason, and a lot of that starts with Liam Coen and the culture he is establishing. Then, from a football sense, Coen is bringing a Sean McVay-esque offense to the Jaguars. This is a system that's rooted in multiplicity, meaning that it throws a variety of different looks at opposing defenses to keep them off balance and guessing. Around the NFL in recent years, we've seen numerous quarterbacks and offenses have success in similar style systems. Again, the players make the plays, but this scheme can help shoulder some of that playmaking burden. Building around Trevor Lawrence This has been a clear priority for the Jaguars this offseason--making sure they are maximizing the window that they have with Lawrence. It started by hiring Coen and bringing in that offensive scheme of his. But in addition to that, Gladstone reshaped the offensive line by making six additions up front, which is where consistent success begins for any offense, and he also added a lot more speed by acquiring Dyami Brown, Travis Hunter, and Bhayshul Tuten. Advertisement With more balance around Lawrence, he's now in a better position not to have to do it all and be Superman on every play. Lawrence's play will determine the ceiling for this Jaguars team, so making sure that he's in the best position possible to succeed needs to be and has been a major priority for the new-look Jaguars. Top available NFL free agents who could help the Lions once training camp starts
The Detroit Lions are ready to go to battle with the current 90-man roster as training camp approaches in July. However, Lions GM Brad Holmes and his staff always have their eyes open for potential additions that can bolster the team's depth. There are a select few prominent available names on the NFL free agency list, with the most notable of potential interest to Detroit being a player who finished 2024 in a Lions uniform. That would be veteran EDGE Za'Darius Smith, who continues to live in Detroit and has made his desire to return to the Lions abundantly clear. Bringing back Smith would be a popular move, though nothing appears imminent. The Lions seem content with a healthy Marcus Davenport and promising rookie Ahmed Hassanein across from Aidan Hutchinson, with Josh Paschal and Al-Quadin Muhammad among others in the EDGE mix. Other current free agents might intrigue the Lions once training camp kicks off and the inevitable injuries happen, or returning players just aren't cutting it anymore. Here are a few names that stand out. Brandon Scherff The veteran guard remains a durable bedrock presence at guard. While he's no longer the perennial Pro Bowler he was in his Washington heyday, the 33-year-old Scherff still played strong all-around ball in Jacksonville the last few seasons. He'd be a natural plug-and-play replacement for Kevin Zeitler at right guard. Matt Judon Judon bagged 15.5 sacks playing OLB for New England in 2022 and was leading the NFL in sacks in 2023 before suffering a torn biceps in Week 4. The Detroit native didn't click in Atlanta in 2024 (no one did!), but if he's got a late-career rebound in him, Judon's length and craftiness at EDGE are exactly what the Lions covet at the position. Gerald Everett Once upon a time, Everett and Lions QB Jared Goff had a nice connection during their Rams days. Everett doesn't offer much in the way of run blocking, but he's still a capable chip-and-release receiver who can break the initial tackle. Mike Hilton If anything happens to the Lions CB group early in camp, Hilton makes for a definite "Grit Fit" in Detroit. Short-not-small, the 31-year-old corner is an aggressive run defender who proved in recent Cincinnati seasons he can still cover quickness very well. Safety Jordan Whitehead would have been on the list, but his health status is unknown after being involved in a car accident in January, forcing the Buccaneers to place him on the non-football injury list.
