A special court in Mumbai acquitted all seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt Colonel Prasad Purohit, observing that there was "no reliable and cogent evidence" against them. The blast had killed six persons and injured 101 others nearly 17 years ago on September 29, 2008.
Businessman Shyam Sahu from Indore, who was arrested in this case in October 2008, said he was in judicial custody for three years. The special court, however, discharged him in 2017 citing lack of evidence.
Talking to PTI, Mr. Sahu alleged that he, Pragya Singh Thakur and others were implicated as part of a "Congress conspiracy" to malign the Hindu community by coining terms such as "Hindu terrorism" and "saffron terrorism" to appease a particular section.
"We have got justice," he said about the court verdict.
"The Congress' conspiracy has been exposed. The party should apologise for its conspiracy, though I don't think it will," he said.
He said he had to face several "ordeals" following his arrest in the case.
"While I was in jail after my arrest, my elder brother Mohan Sahu came to support me during a court appearance. Before my eyes, he suffered a heart attack and died about half-an-hour later. I could not do anything to save him," he added.
"No one can compensate for the loss my family suffered due to the death of my elder brother," Mr. Sahu said.

BJP committed to uplift of denotified tribes, says Andhra party president Madhav
Ahead of the Denotified Tribes Liberation Day to be observed on August 31, the BJP State unit organised a roundtable with key leaders of the nomadic and denotified tribes in Vijayawada. Speaking on the occasion, BJP State president P.V.N. Madhav emphasised the Central government's efforts to recognise and uplift these marginalised communities. He said, 'It is the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre that has made budgetary allocation for the denotified tribes. These communities, once unfairly labeled as criminals by the British in 1957, have long suffered social discrimination and neglect.' In 1952, India had officially liberated these tribes from such stigmatisation. Later, under former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's leadership, a commission had been constituted to study and recognise their societal contributions. 'The very first line of the commission's report says that if Indian culture is as rich as it is, it is due to the role of these nomadic communities,' Mr. Madhav observed. Since 2014, the Narendra Modi-led government had initiated steps to restore the identity and dignity of the denotified tribes, he said. 'These tribes also reside in Andhra Pradesh, and the BJP has undertaken studies to understand their challenges, including the lack of voting rights,' he added. 'We believe their struggles stem from systemic exclusion, including disenfranchisement. That's why we're formulating an action plan to safeguard their existence and promote their welfare,' Mr. Madhav added. 'Vajrotsavams' As part of the 75th Liberation Anniversary of these tribes, the BJP plans to conduct 'Vajrotsavams' (diamond jubilee celebrations) across all districts. Speaking to the media prior to the extended executive meeting of Assam Congress in Guwahati, Gogoi highlighted that the opposition is insisting on an open discussion in Parliament regarding the voter list, the revision of which generated political controversy in Bihar. He emphasised the need for such a discussion to ensure transparency for the common people. Gogoi said common people have to roam around to gather polling station details and resolve other queries, and alleged that there were instances where voters discovered their names were missing from the voter list upon arriving at polling stations. "All the questions raised regarding voter lists should be discussed inside the Parliament. But the govt says they cannot reply, citing that EC is not linked to any department. What type of logic is this?" questioned Gogoi. In a press conference following the meeting, Gogoi said people in Assam are frustrated with the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led govt. He alleged that linguistic and religious minorities face injustice under BJP, and communities such as Bodos, Tiwas, Karbis, Rabhas, and Mishings are being harassed in the name of eviction. From Sept, Congress will commence organisational work and programmes against 'BJP's corruption'. Gogoi also announced that on Aug 15, Congress will hold a Tricolour march at the district and block levels.
