Soccer player Kylian Mbappé was hospitalized this week due to a severe case of gastroenteritis.
Mbappé was initially reported to have a fever, missing Real Madrid's opening match of the Club World Cup in Miami on Wednesday, June 18, according to the Associated Press.
Mbappé began feeling unwell on Monday and was too weak to leave his hotel room in the days that followed, MARCA reported. Real Madrid kept him isolated from the rest of the team to minimize the risk of spreading the illness.
Later, Real Madrid confirmed that he was receiving hospital treatment for gastroenteritis.
"Our player Kylian Mbappé is suffering from an acute case of gastroenteritis and has been admitted to hospital in order to undergo a series of tests and follow the appropriate course of treatment," Real Madrid wrote in a statement.Hours later, the club announced he had been discharged but would continue treatment.
"Our player Kylian Mbappé was discharged from the hospital this afternoon and has returned to the Real Madrid training camp. Mbappé will continue receiving specific medical treatment and will gradually return to team activity," the team shared in another statement.
Gastroenteritis—also known as the stomach flu—is an infection that inflames the digestive system, causing symptoms like cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting. It usually clears up in a few days, though severe cases may require IV fluids to prevent dehydration, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Following Wednesday's game, Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso said he hoped Mbappé would be ready for the team's next match on Sunday, June 22. But, it's unclear if he'll be ready to play by then.Kylian Mbappé Raises Concern With Sudden Hospital Scare During Club World Cup first appeared on Men's Fitness on Jun 20, 2025

Report: Tragedy strikes Liverpool as Diogo Jota dies in Spanish road accident

Devastation at Anfield: Remembering Diogo Jota's Legacy After Tragic Loss Shockwaves Across Merseyside In what was meant to be a summer of joy and celebration, Liverpool Football Club is instead mourning the tragic death of Diogo Jota, who was killed in a car crash in north-west Spain just 11 days after his wedding. The 28-year-old Portuguese forward lost his life alongside his brother, Andre Silva, in what investigators believe may have been caused by a high-speed tyre blowout. Advertisement Fans, players, and football figures around the world have been united in grief following confirmation of the heartbreaking news. Liverpool described themselves as 'devastated' in a club statement and immediately offered support to Jota's family, including his wife, Rute Cardoso, and their three young children. Flags at Anfield were lowered to half-mast, while tributes poured in from Cristiano Ronaldo, Jurgen Klopp, Kenny Dalglish and many others. A Summer That Was Meant To Be Perfect Jota had only recently been celebrating what appeared to be the perfect summer: a Nations League triumph with Portugal, a fairytale wedding in Porto, and family moments captured on the Anfield pitch after Liverpool's 20th league title win. His wedding video, shared online with the words 'A day we will never forget,' has become tragically prophetic. Photo: IMAGO Advertisement Photos of the smiling couple, their wedding rings, and their three children celebrating together are now gut-wrenching symbols of a life cruelly cut short. Just weeks ago, his sons Denis and Duarte were taking turns lifting the Premier League trophy in front of the Kop. Now, the football world is left grappling with an unspeakable loss. Unanswered Questions Surround Crash According to an article from Daniel Taylor and Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, Jota had opted for a ferry journey to England due to recent surgery which made flying inadvisable. Tragically, he never made it past Benavente. The Lamborghini Huracan he was travelling in veered off the A-52 and burst into flames. Emergency services confirmed both Jota and his brother died at the scene. The road conditions in the area — dubbed 'empty Spain' — have already been questioned, with local ambulance drivers reportedly avoiding certain lanes due to poor surfaces. Local officials, however, have urged restraint until formal investigations conclude. Advertisement A Family Man and a Liverpool Favourite Liverpool head coach Arne Slot said it best: 'He was not a friend to two people, a friend to everyone… someone who made others feel good about themselves just by being with them.' Slot also described him as 'the essence of what a Liverpool player should be.' Jota was revered not only for his work ethic and goals but for his humility and warmth off the pitch. A doting father and devoted husband, he made time for fans and was loved by his teammates. His presence, on and off the field, will be deeply missed.

Struff stress but Carlitos maintains hat-trick charge

Carlos Alcaraz has survived a "stressful" afternoon, coping with a barrage of booming serves from veteran German powerhhouse Jan-Lennard Struff to take his unbeaten streak to 21 matches and keep his Wimbledon hat-trick ambitions on course. The Spanish champion knew all about the danger of the 35-year-old Struff, having been knocked out of the 2021 French Open by him when he was an emerging star and then also getting stretched by the towering German over five sets at the following year's Wimbledon. And the same old problems emerged again on Friday when, after Alcaraz had eased through the first set, Struff, who blasted down 13 aces in all, responded brilliantly to clinch the crucial break for 5-3 before levelling the match. A fourth consecutive 4R at #Wimbledon awaits Carlos Alcaraz 👏The defending champion defeats Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 🇪🇸 — Wimbledon (@Wimbledon) July 4, 2025 But Alcaraz, who'd also had a serious workout from another veteran, Fabio Fognini, over five sets in the opening round, once again found another gear to prevail 6-1 3-6 6-3 6-4 in two hours and 25 minutes. "I knew it was going to be really difficult and I had to be focused on every shot," said the 22-year-old. "His game suits the grass, big serves, coming to the net, so I'm pleased with everything I did today. Proud to get the win in four sets. "To be honest I was suffering in every service game I did. Lots of break points down. It was stressful," added Alcaraz, who set up a last-16 date with 14th seed Andrey Rublev, who eased past veteran French leftie Adrian Mannarino 7-5 6-2 6-3. Taylor Fritz, who had already negotiated two marathon five-setters over three days to reach the third round, needed another three hours and 12 minutes to get past Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Yet though his workload has been massive and he's had issues with his knee, he reckons he's actually feeling stronger as each match goes by as he gets ready to face Australian Jordan Thompson, four-set victor over Luciano Darderi, in the last-16. It as the end of the road for Brazil's rising teenage star Joao Fonseca, who couldn't keep his legion of noisy fans happy after losing to the resurgent Chilean qualifier Nicolas Jarry, who secured a fourth-round meeting with Britain's Cameron Norrie after a 6-3 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-4) victory on a raucous No.2 Court. The home fans, fed up after the exit of their big men's hope Jack Draper on Thursday, still have Cameron Norrie, their 2022 semi-finalist, to cheer after the last British man standing beat Italy's Mattia Bellucci 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 6-3.

Mauricio Pochettino Disappointed With USMNT Supporters Despite Gold Cup Triumph

Mauricio Pochettino Disappointed With USMNT Supporters Despite Gold Cup Triumph originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The 2025 Gold Cup has suffered with game attendance, and some may assume it is due to the FIFA Club World Cup becoming a more attractive tournament in the U.S. this summer. Advertisement The USMNT is one of the top teams in the Gold Cup, but the stadiums they've played in have left a lot to be desired. The stadium the USMNT has played in during this Gold Cup has not been sold out until the semifinal. The USMNT took on Guatemala at Energizer Park in St. Louis, Missouri, but the game felt like an away game for Team USA. Mauricio Pochettino was seen impressed with the Guatemala supporters, who were the majority at the Energizer Park. Despite the win over Guatemala, Pochettino felt disappointed with the USMNT support both in the stadium and throughout the Gold Cup. Pochettino's Commnets on the USMNT Support Pochettino praised the Guatemala fans after the USMNT's 2-1 win over Guatemala in the Gold Cup semifinal. The head coach spoke about how USMNT supporters should learn from the passion of Guatemala fans base and others. Advertisement Mauricio Pochettino: "Wow. Unbelievable. That is football. That connection (between fans and team) is what we will like at the World Cup. That is culture. What we need to learn in this country." Doug McIntyre from Fox Sports reports that Pochettino described the atmosphere at the Energizer Park vs Guatemala as an 'away match' and that it is good for his players. The Gold Cup Final against Mexico is expected to be similar to the semifinal, where the UMSNT will have fewer supporters than the opponent. Mexico's fan base is one of the biggest in world soccer, and their popularity in the U.S. is huge as well. Advertisement This perception is backed by attendance statistics for the USMNT games in the Gold Cup this summer have been lower than expected. USMNT's support in the 2025 Gold Cup USA vs Trinidad & Tobago - 12,610 attendance (PayPal Park / 18,000 capacity) USA vs Saudi Arabia - 11,727 attendance (Q2 Stadium / 20,500 capacity) USA vs Haiti - 20,918 attendance (AT&T Stadium / 80,000 capacity) USA vs Costa Rica - 32,289 attendance (U.S. Bank Stadium / 73,000 capacity) Mexico has also failed to bring desirable high attendance rates in their Gold Cup matches, but the numbers are still considerably higher than USMNT games. Mexico vs Honduras had Levi's Stadium sold out, a stadium with a capacity between 68,500 to 75,000. The NRG Stadium in Houston has a capacity of 72,200, where Mexico has been close to selling out in the past. The last time Mexico played at the NRG Stadium was in the 2024 Copa America match against Jamaica. The fan attendance for the game against Jamaica was 53,763. Advertisement That number is expected to increase on Sunday as the biggest game of the region is the USA vs Mexico in a Gold Cup Final.
