In the newly introduced Perspectives competition, Slovenian director Urška Djukić was honored for her debut feature Kaj ti je deklica (Little Trouble Girls), a coming-of-age drama that follows the reserved Lucia (Jara Sofija Ostan) as she explores sexuality, friendship and the intersection of sin and desire. The film is being sold worldwide by Heretic.
The Panorama prize went to Bajo las banderas, el sol (Under the Flags, the Sun), the feature documentary debut of Paraguayan filmmaker Juanjo Pereira. The film excavates lost audiovisual archives from Alfredo Stroessner's 35-year dictatorship, revealing how media was used to shape national identity and enforce authoritarian rule. Assembled from recovered propaganda films, newsreels and declassified documents, Pereira's work reconstructs a history long omitted from Paraguay's educational system. Cinephil is handling worldwide sales.
Tatiana Fuentes Sadowski's La memoria de las mariposas (The Memory of Butterflies) won the Fipresci prize in the Forum section. Using grainy analog footage, the Peruvian documentary tells the forgotten story of two indigenous Peruvian boys forcibly taken to Europe, intertwining their history with that of Peru's during its brutal 35-year dictatorship. Miti Film produced the documentary together with Perpetua Cine and Oblaum Filmes.

Prime Video has an underrated sci-fi thriller I can't stop thinking about — and you'll be hooked, too
Some movies captivate me without any rhyme or reason. It's not always the one with the best ratings, either. When struggling to find something to watch one night, I came across "Arctic Void" after getting tired of all my usual options. Usually, I avoid films with abysmally low IMDb ratings, but the film's thumbnail image pulled me in to watch. It depicted an isolated boat cast out amid an icy tundra with looming dark clouds above; I couldn't help but give it a try. Directed and co-written by Darren Mann, and starring Michael Weaver, Tim Griffin, and Justin Huen, "Arctic Void" chronicles what happens after three men are left in the middle of a frigid nowhere after everyone else disappears from a seemingly unexplainable event. Although not without its flaws, "Arctic Void" is a slow-burn sci-fi thriller that held my attention and quickly became a personal favorite. And it's streaming now on Prime Video, so you can get hooked, too. "Arctic Void" begins with two best friends, Alan (Tim Griffin) and Ray (Michael Weaver), arriving on one of the Norwegian islands. The dynamics of their relationship are quite clear from the start: Ray's energy thrives on his fame as the star of their travel show, while Alan, his director and producer, battles a growing concern about their trip and, most of all, a desire to return to his family and work on his marriage. They arrive at a port to catch the boat that will take them on a tourist expedition into the Arctic. There, they meet their cameraman, Sean (Justin Huen), whom they've never worked with before. He's not the friendliest and is somewhat strange. Ray can't help but notice that he wears headphones linked up to an old-fashioned metal lunchbox. Except that's not the only weird thing. While their guide on the boat (played by the goofy and charming Rune Temte) engages the tourists, Ray and Alan notice the animals are acting odd. And then something happens: An unexplainable, unknown event causes everyone on the boat, except for Ray, Alan, and Sean, to disappear. Confused and puzzled, the three make their way off the boat and venture into a nearby town. This is when the haunting nature of the film begins. No one is there, either. Slowly, pieces of the puzzle emerge. Alan starts to feel sick while Ray frantically searches for answers. More happened on that boat than a simple, unexplainable event. Amidst the cold tundra is a mystery that doesn't easily get explained. However, I loved the setting of this film and how it evolves into something that isn't entirely impossible. Tim Griffin does a good job of displaying his character's fear, especially as his health dwindles. While Justin Huen remains a character of mystery, Ray's evolution from being someone overly pompous to realizing his life isn't entirely untouchable. While this movie doesn't tie up all the loose ends, it's still a worthy sci-fi thriller. I've rewatched it several times since my first viewing and enjoy it every time. And I especially enjoy the music throughout, composed by Nick Donnelly, which adds to the spooky atmosphere. The rapper directly announced the album title to the audience, creating immediate excitement. Further solidifying the announcement, an installation designed to recreate the album's cover, prominently featuring its title, was also displayed. The news was then officially confirmed by Tyler himself via an Instagram post on Saturday morning, which included the release date for Tyler the Creator's new album. 'Don't Tap the Glass' will be Tyler's ninth studio album. Its release comes less than a year after his previous project, Chromakopia , which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in October 2024. Chromakopia had a number of high-profile features, including Lil Wayne, Sexyy Red, Daniel Caesar, Doechii, GloRilla, LaToiya Williams, Lola Young, Santigold, Schoolboy Q, and Teezo Touchdown. 'I think we should put music out again on Tuesdays instead of Fridays, for some reasons,' he explained. 'My reasoning is, I know people think because of the weekend, they can listen to stuff, and the streams go up. And the streaming people are like, 'Oh, the streams go up on the weekend!' But I think it's a lot of passive listening, at parties or people get the time to go to the gym, so they're not really listening.' 'To work on an album for so long and put so much energy into it and for it to be released at midnight…just seems so disrespectful,' he added. Elsewhere in the interview, the rapper also discusses his frustration with finding places to seriously discuss his work. 'We need to get back to talking about music,' Tyler said. 'We need to stop f***ing going sneaker shopping or f***ing deepthroating hot wings for an hour. Talk about your album, talk about music.' Beyond his prolific and critically acclaimed music career, Tyler is also making significant strides in the film industry. Earlier this year, he completed filming on Josh Safdie's highly anticipated movie, 'Marty Supreme,' according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film features a star-studded cast, including Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow, and is scheduled for release by A24 on Christmas Day 2025. Norwegian author Ingvar Ambjørnsen dies at 69
STOCKHOLM -- Ingvar Ambjørnsen, a Norwegian author who mixed a sharp, even dark tone with humor and empathy in works that depicted the lives of the oppressed and vulnerable, has died, his publisher said. He was 69. The Cappelen Damm publishing house did not specify the cause of death. Ambjørnsen had long been public with his battle against a lung illness called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD. Norwegian tabloid VG reported he is survived by his wife, Gabriele Haefs, saying she posted news of Ambjørnsen's death on Saturday. Born on May 20, 1956, in Tönsberg — described on his German-language author website as 'Norway's most bar-filled town' — Ambjørnsen grew up in Larvik and worked in various jobs in industry and psychiatry before publishing his first documentary novel in 1981. Four years later, he moved to Hamburg, where he lived for decades. 'His books are characterized by powerful, realistic descriptions of the seamier side of life,' the publisher said. Ambjørnsen became one of the publisher's best-known contemporary authors with four novels built around the character Elling, a shy and imaginative outsider who coped with the funny but endearing foibles of daily life after release from a psychiatric hospital. The comedy 'Elling' — the story of two recently released mental patients bunking together in an apartment in Oslo — was nominated in 2001 for an Academy Award as best foreign-language film. The tale landed on Broadway in 2010, with a play starring Denis O'Hare and Brendan Fraser: One of the misfits was fixated on his mother, the other obsessed with sex. According to the author website, Ambjørnsen wrote 18 novels and three collections of short stories, as well as several books for children and youth. A newly written collection of short stories is set to go on sale in Norway on July 31.
