Overview
Thanks to updates that came midway through the 2025 model year, the Volvo XC90 T8 hybrid looks just as fresh and contemporary as ever, inside and out. Beneath those clean Scandinavian lines lives a 455-hp gas-electric powertrain consisting of a turbocharged inline-four up front and an electric motor on the rear axle (nonhybrid versions are also available and reviewed separately). Together, they offer smooth operation no matter which parts are contributing, and a 4.8-second run to 60 mph is nothing to sneeze at. Our one dynamic gripe is that its suspension verges on harsh, especially over broken pavement. If you'd rather have something in the same general shape but with a bigger battery and no gas engine, the all-electric EX90 may be for you.
What's New for 2026?
The XC90 received some big updates midway through the 2025 model year. We don't expect much, if anything, to change this year.

While the Plus trim adds some welcome extras, including a heated steering wheel, a 360-degree camera system, and heated rear seats, the base Core trim is well-equipped enough to make it the better buy. It offers desirable features like a panoramic roof, power-adjustable and heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, and a host of standard safety features.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The XC90 T8 makes use of a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that works with a rear-axle-mounted electric motor and a 14.7-kWh battery to whip up 455 horsepower and 523 pound-feet of torque. As with all new XC90s, the T8 PHEV is only available with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. While we had issues with the complicated and unrefined turbo- and supercharged powertrain in earlier versions of the T8, the newer turbocharged-only engine and accompanying hybrid system provide a much more refined driving experience. The transitions between electric and gas propulsion are now seamless. The brake pedal is also noteworthy for its linear response during either regenerative or friction braking. The XC90 T8 gets only passing marks when it comes to its road manners, but it does have nicely weighted steering and nimbler handling than expected for such a large and heavy SUV. When we drove the loaded XC90 T8 with the air-suspension upgrade, we found its ride to be a bit too firm, but we haven't yet driven the base suspension on Michigan's roads to see how its tuning improvements play out.

At our test track, the updated XC90 T8 got to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. That's a bit slower than before, but it's still competitive among other PHEV luxury SUVs.

Towing and Payload Capacity
The XC90 T8 has the highest maximum towing capacity in the XC90 lineup and can pull up to 5290 pounds.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The T8 plug-in hybrid uses a 14.7-kWh battery pack that's good for an EPA-estimated 32 miles of driving range per charge. In our real-world highway range testing, we achieved a result of 25 miles. While the battery can't quick-charge on a DC fast-charger, it can be charged at home or Level 2 public charging stations. Volvo claims that the T8 takes around five hours to charge from 0 to 100 percent when using a 240-volt, 16-amp outlet. Volvo also provides a provision in the XC90's drive modes to hold the battery's charge for later use or add charge while the gas engine powers the car.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe
The EPA hasn't released any fuel-economy information for the 2026 XC90 Hybrid yet, but the 2025 model earned ratings of 58 MPGe with the electric motor pitching in and 27 mpg combined without. During our 75-mph real-world highway fuel-economy test, the XC90 T8 fell short of those ratings, earning just 49 MPGe and 25 mpg in hybrid mode. MPGe stands for miles per gallon of gas equivalent, an EPA metric that estimates PHEV and EV vehicle fuel efficiency. For more information about the XC90's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The XC90's interior is a masterpiece of restraint, featuring an artful design and high-quality materials that together create a warm, upscale ambiance. Last year's updates brought upgraded materials, a redesigned dashboard, a revised center console, and new textile upholstery options. All models are offered with either a six- or seven-seat layout. Adults won't be happy in the third row, however, especially if the journey is long. The XC90's wide, boxy silhouette helps in the cargo-hauling department, but interior storage compartments aren't as cavernous as in some competitors.

Infotainment and Connectivity
A handsome, tablet-like 11.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard, as is a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster; if you want it, a head-up display is optional. The software interface is derived from Google's Android Automotive system, but Apple CarPlay is standard for iPhone users. The system features in-dash navigation based on Google Maps, and users can interact via voice with the Google Assistant. A ten-speaker stereo system is standard and features a 220-watt amplifier, but two different premium audio setups are available: a 600-watt, 14-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo or a 1410-watt, 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Volvo's commitment to safety is legendary, and its three-row crossover has a loaded roster of driver-assistance technology. Lovable on track to raise $150M at $2B valuation

Lovable, one of the darlings of the vibe coding world and one of Europe's fastest-growing AI startups, is working on raising a fresh round of over $150 million at a near $2 billion valuation, the Financial Times reports. The raise and giant step-up in valuation comes just months after the Swedish startup raised a $15 million round led by Creandum in February. The company described that round to TechCrunch as 'pre-series A,' but with numbers this large, it's safe to say that Lovable has jumped from seed rounds to priced growth rounds, whatever the serial alphabetic label should be. Accel is said to be leading this new raise, with Creandum and others like 20VC participating. While the company is technically two years old, founded in 2023, it released its web-app building product in late November. In May, Lovable CEO Anton Osika tweeted that Lovable hit $50 million in ARR in six months. Lovable, like competitors Replit and Bolt, builds entire web apps from an initial text prompt, including a user interface/front end (often via the popular UX coding tool React) and connected to a database like Supabase. Some users say it's affordable, starting at $25 a month for 250 'credits.' One Reddit user documented an app with 29,000+ lines of code and dozens of functions built for $250. On Monday, Lovable announced that it was releasing a beta version of an AI agent that could automate more tasks like editing code after reading project files or debugging. Lovable will charge on a usage-based model for this: the more the agent is asked to do, the more credits it will charge. While this may increase fees for users if they turn over their app management to the agent, this pricing model is shaping up to be the default business model for agents. This is because the AI startups themselves have to pay variable fees to model providers like OpenAI or Anthropic. All this to say, such business model strategies would make investors happy. Driving a Porsche 911 GT3 RS At Monza Was a Religious Experience

They don't call Monza the "Temple of Speed" for nothing. Except for three chicanes added over the decades, this is as classic a racing circuit as they used to be—a couple of straights connected by fast right-hand corners. Lewis Hamilton's 2020 pole lap here was at an average of 164.267 miles per hour. If you want to go faster on a closed circuit, you'll need an actual oval. Monza is maybe one of the few race tracks where you can really experience what the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS is capable of. Pirelli laid a GT3 RS on its OEM-fit Trofeo RS tires for us to drive at its media event for the new P Zero family. You can read about the rest of the tires here , but this experience required its own story. The 992-generation GT3 RS has been out for a few years now, and I'd driven it on track previously, but that didn't prepare me for what it was like at Monza. This car's radical aero package generates 900 pounds of downforce at 124 mph and 1,895 pounds at 177 mph. Few road cars can match that downforce figure, and you'll need a hypercar to beat it. The figures are broadly comparable to what a 911 GT3 R race car would run around a high-speed track like Le Mans… or, for that matter, Monza. That might sound like a bad thing at a place like Monza, and yes, in a racing environment, you wouldn't want to run too much wing here. But Monza's two ultra-fast right-handers, Curva Grande at the top, and the Parabolica at the bottom, let you experience the full effects of the GT3 RS's downforce. It feels otherworldly. To better describe this, it's worth briefly explaining how tire and aero grip work. A tire has a maximum grip level in both lateral and longitudinal acceleration, measured in G-force or simply "G," which is the force on our body exerted by acceleration in any direction. You can plot out that force in a 2-D circle on a graph, which is helpful for looking at how combined lateral (turning) and longitudinal (accelerating and braking) forces a tire can take before losing grip. You might be able to corner, accelerate, and brake separately at a maximum of 1 G each, but if you're accelerating and turning at the same time, you can only have a portion of each direction's maximum achievable grip. This friction circle is ever-changing, impacted by the wear level and temperature of the tire, slip angle, the friction coefficient of the road surface, and the vehicle's weight transfer under acceleration, braking, and turning. If you go to racing school, you dive deep into all of this, but what you need to know here is that on its own, a tire is only capable of taking so much lateral and longitudinal acceleration before losing grip. Photo by: Pirelli It is a vast oversimplification to say that, in cornering, pure mechanical grip from the tire alone decreases with speed past a certain point… but that's basically the case. Aerodynamic grip, created from downforce-generating wings, splitters, diffusers, etc., essentially makes the 2-D traction circle bigger. But what's especially interesting is that downforce rises with the square of speed: In other words, aero grip increases with speed. Not infinitely, of course, because the tires can only handle so much, but enough that it fundamentally changes your approach to driving. In practice, it goes like this. Curva Grande is really just a flat-out run from the slow first chicane to the less slow second chicane. Mentally, I couldn't get myself to keep my foot to the floor. My experience isn't uncommon. If you've spent your track time in low-grip road cars, or even race cars with high mechanical grip but little to no aero, getting your head around downforce is tricky. Intellectually, you know what the car can do—or at least you have some concept of it—but getting yourself to go against your instincts honed through years of prior driving experience is hard. Especially when you don't want to ball up someone else's Porsche GT3 RS. With another session, ideally after a look at a data comparison between me and someone quicker, I could've maybe gotten there. But I had a hell of a time regardless. The feeling of G-force on your body as you accelerate through the corner and downforce rises is like nothing else. I'm thankful this car has bucket seats and six-point harnesses, because if it didn't, I don't think I could hold myself up. I decided to be a bit conservative, but still brake a little later than I did in the Carrera GTS. Even I knew I could go deeper in this car because of the downforce, but I'm still too early. There's something a bit demoralizing about arriving at corner entry far slower than you need to be, but for me, that gives way to astonishment at what the car is capable of. It forces you to rethink what's possible, and the added context of a "normal" sports car like a Carrera GTS just makes what the GT3 RS does that much more astonishing. The Parabolica might be the best corner on the track, though the surprisingly quick Lesmos runs it close. Despite looking fairly tight on the track map, it's fast, and you get back to power so early, the car seemingly straining against its limits, until it (and you) can take a breath on the main straight. I don't want to say the GT3 RS is a race car for the street, because in some ways, it's more advanced than a 911 GT3 race car, with its adjustable differential, active aero, and, well, the fact that it's got a nice leather interior. But not much else with a license plate quite delivers the same race-car experience, and at a place like Monza, that's especially obvious. Photo by: Pirelli For as alien as the car feels to someone of my experience, it's also very approachable. The car isn't nervous, it just dares you to up your game to match its capabilities. And a huge credit to Pirelli for making such a friendly tire in the Trofeo RS. The company's engineers all talk about maintaining a nice plateau of grip once you're past the tire's peak, rather than a sudden drop-off. Maybe the peak isn't quite as high for one fast lap, but realistically, the tire offers more speed for longer. There are other tracks where you can take full advantage of the GT3 RS's downforce, but not many are quite so evocative. Even beyond its 'Temple of Speed' nickname, there's something vaguely religious about the place. Maybe it's Italy, where everything inspires that sort of reverence. Or maybe it's the way that the RS's 9,000-rpm flat-six noise echoes between the grandstands, the trees, the bridge on the way to the variante Ascari, and everywhere else. Maybe it's knowing you're at the one of the oldest purpose-built tracks still in operation in the world, second only to Indy. It's a place for the indoctrinated to worship, and no points for guessing my beliefs. Rigetti Computing (RGTI) shares are in focus today, July 2, after Troy Jensen – a Cantor Fitzgerald analyst – assumed coverage of the quantum technology company with an 'Overweight' rating. Jensen expects RGTI shares to hit $15 in the coming months as quantum computing 'remains one of the most coveted technical milestones with enormous economic implications.' At the time of writing, Rigetti Computing stock is down more than 19% year-to-date. Jensen recommends owning RGTI stock for exposure to quantum computing as it's the leader in superconducting systems, which he said was the most advanced and heavily invested subsector of quantum technology. Rigetti is strongly positioned to accelerate its work on superconducting systems following a recent $35 million equity investment from Quana Computer – the analyst told clients in his research note today. Investors could take heart in the fact that RGTI is working with governments on both sides of the Atlantic on several high-impact quantum research initiatives as well. The quantum computing stock remains attractive also because it's 'making strides in developing innovative approaches to scaling to higher qubit count systems,' according to its chief executive Subodh Kulkarni. Rigetti Computing stock is currently going for a premium price-sales multiple of well over 300x. Still, Troy Jensen favours buying it at current levels as it's, nonetheless, cheaper to own than rivals, including D-Wave (QBTS), with a P/S ratio of close to 500x, according to Barchart. RGTI recorded about $22 million of operating expenses in Q1 but ended the quarter with roughly $238 million in cash, cash equivalents, and available-for-sale investments – which means it's not immediately dependent on external financing to sustain operations. In fact, RGTI shares may be worth owning since the Nasdaq-listed firm even generated nearly $43 million of net income in its latest reported quarter. Rigetti stock is currently up more than 100% versus its year-to-date low – but Wall Street remains convinced that it can extend gains further moving forward. The consensus rating on RGTI shares currently sits at 'Strong Buy' with the mean target of $14.40 indicating potential upside of another 17% from current levels.
