ECW Legend Defends CM Punk's Alleged Hypocrisy Over Performing at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia

CM Punk is perhaps the most outspoken and controversial star in WWE history. Examples of this quality are well-documented with his 2011 'Pipebomb' promo and rants outside the ring about various issues, ranging from the independent circuit and backstage stories.
However, one major rant came in 2020 when Punk lambasted The Miz online in relation to the WWE star performing in Saudi Arabia for cash despite the country's alleged history of human rights violations.
But in 2025, Punk wrestled
John Cena
at Night of Champions in the Arab nation. This wasn't free of controversy. On the NOC kick-off show, Punk was targeted by a WWE fan in the crowd about his comments, after which Punk publicly apologized for his rant from years ago.
And naturally, this has attracted many naysayers calling Punk a hypocrite owing to his persona of being outspoken but still apologising after reaping the benefits of performing in Saudi Arabia.
However, Rob Van Dam has stepped in to defend the former WWE Champion.
Rob Van Dam Feels Differently About CM Punk's Change of Heart
Taking to his '1 of a Kind' podcast, the former ECW World Champion said, "I don't consider it hypocrisy unless it was done at the same time. People can grow. Their perspective can change.

If he said something 5 years ago, and then now he feels different about it. That's not what a hypocrite is. We all grow, feel different.'
The WWE Hall of Famer further added, 'Let's say you're a kid in school and you think this kid's a jerk, and then you start talking to him, and then you find out he's really cool, and he becomes your friend. Are you a hypocrite? No. You just have more information now than you had before, and so your view has changed."
This reflection from Van Dam speaks highly about Punk's transformation since returning to the WWE at Survivor Series 2023. The former WWE Champion is no longer the guy with an extremely edgy attitude and is now firmly established as the locker room leader. Moreover, he even main-evented his first-ever WrestleMania this year against Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. Apart from this, Punk's change of heart even received appreciation from WWE CCO Triple H, who was happy with Punk's newfound perspective.

Kajol says ‘If Shah Rukh Khan calls himself King Khan, he's earned it': ‘SRK used to tell me, Baby, you better learn how to act'

The enduring duo of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol continues to occupy a special place in the hearts of fans. From Baazigar and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and My Name Is Khan, the two have given audiences timeless performances and unforgettable chemistry. While their on-screen magic is well-celebrated, their off-screen camaraderie is just as cherished. In a recent interview, Kajol opened up about her long-standing bond with Shah Rukh and the invaluable lessons she picked up from him over the years. 'He has worked so hard to be King Khan' Reflecting on their collaborations, Kajol credited their mutual respect and shared energy for the success of their films together. 'Shah Rukh is a huge star. The films we did together were massively successful. I think we have been good for each other on screen,' she told The Lallantop. She also praised his relentless dedication. 'As far as his career is concerned, he has worked so hard to be where he is today. If he calls himself 'King Khan', he has worked very hard to be there. The credit for his career belongs to him,' she added, acknowledging the actor's journey from television to superstardom. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why seniors are rushing to get this Internet box – here's why! Techno Mag Learn More Undo 'This habit of giving your all will wear you out' Kajol also recalled a piece of advice SRK gave her during the early years of her career, wisdom that she initially brushed aside but later came to value deeply. 'Shah Rukh used to tell me, 'Baby, you better learn how to act. This habit of giving your all in every shot will wear you out,'' she shared. At the time, Kajol admitted she didn't take it seriously and continued to give her absolute best in every performance. But during the filming of Udhaar Ki Zindagi (1994), when she was just 18, she hit a wall. 'The kind of films I was doing at that time were heavy... After the film was completed, I was exhausted, and I understood what Shah Rukh said. For every shot in every film, you can't afford to give... I mean, you can't be so into the role that you give your 300% to it. You are basically giving your soul away then.' Kajol REVEALS Truth About Ajay Devgn's 'Jealousy' Over Shah Rukh Khan Bond 'I told my mother, I don't want to do films anymore' So overwhelming was the emotional toll that Kajol considered quitting acting altogether. 'I was tired. I told my mother, 'I don't want to do films anymore'. I was burnt out at 18. I said I didn't want to keep doing roles where I had to cry constantly or invest so much of myself.' It was only after that phase, she shared, that she truly began to understand the technique of acting, something Shah Rukh had urged her to learn from the beginning.

Father's bold move to fulfill son's WWE dream pays off as The Undertaker responds: 'Well done, young man!'

The Undertaker (Image Source: Getty) WWE makes dreams come true, and today, one father's daring charge into making his son a WWE fan paid off in a big way, bringing the feels to the world, including The Undertaker. An Indian father has gone viral for recreating the ring entrance of the legendary 'Deadman' at home, lights dimmed to set the mood, the 'Graveyard Symphony' played on harmonium, and his young son slowly rolling in to visually embody the legend. The clip was soon noticed by the wrestling icon himself, who replied with an encouraging: 'Well done, young man!' A son lives out his wrestling dream, thanks to dad's theatrical touch The video was filled with cuteness from the get-go. In another room where the lights are barely on, the father lovingly cues his son's mega entrance on an old-style harmonium playing The Undertaker's spine-chilling theme. Dressed like a millennial, but standing there with an air of confidence, the son holds both hands up just like The Phenom and moves in slow, deliberate steps — impersonating 30 years of WWE history. — Arhantt_pvt (@Arhantt_pvt) A blooper was also recorded in the video where the father said, 'Ohh tere pass cap toh hai hi nahi,' (roughly: "Hey, you don't even have the cap!"), adding a lighthearted, endearing twist to the performance. It was visible in the video that the father-son duo poured their hearts out in making the entrance video, and the fans couldn't get enough of it. The Undertaker's stamp of approval rings loud and proud Its reception on social media was perhaps the most striking. To remind the fans why "The Deadman" will always live on away from the ring, The Undertaker took a moment to go to X (formerly Twitter) to write "Well done, young man!". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Where Thane's Pulse Meets Peaceful Living L&T Evara Heights Enquire Now Undo That brief line turned the video from a morsel of virality into a moment of true community connection. His Hall‑of‑Fame career ended over a decade ago, but his enduring influence on teens spanning continents, even in retirement, is a testament to a legacy that reaches far beyond the squared circle. Viral reactions show the moving power of parental support And of course, as the internet has nothing to do with viral content, reactions online spread in hours. Another said, "Only a father would go this far for a kid's happiness," while others said: "Wholesome, dad engaging with son's interest without disparaging him and calling it weird." One Reddit user mused: "I feel the dad was living through his kid's dream." There was something so universal about these sentiments: a parent willing to dive into the kiddo's world, share the stage, and maybe relive a dream.
