Ganta faults Simhachalam temple officials for shed collapse ahead of ‘Giri Pradakshina'

The Hindu6 days ago
Bheemunipatnam MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Monday (July 7) opined that officials of Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple at Simhachalam should own responsibility for the collapse of a shed under construction at Simhachalam on Saturday.
The MLA was visiting the site on Monday. Expressing disappointment at the temple officials for failing to supervise the work and trying to blame the contractor for the collapse, he said the annual festivals of 'Chandanotsavam' and 'Giri Pradakshina' draw thousands of devotees to the temple every year. A wall under construction on the Simhachalam Hill collapsed during the Chandanotsavam in April this year, causing the death of seven devotees.
The engineering officials, who were supposed to supervise the work of the contractor, had shirked their responsibility and squarely put the blame on the contractor for the wall collapse. Now, the collapse of the shed, being constructed at the foothill for devotees to rest after the 32-km trek during the 'Giri Pradakshina', scheduled for July 9, was an indication of the negligence of the officials.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the damage would have been unprecedented had the accident occurred on the day of Giri Pradakshina, as an estimated five lakh devotees were expected to participate in the festival. He said the feasibility of constructing a 'permanent shed' at the 'Tholi Pavancha' (first step lead to the hill) would be studied to avoid construction of temporary shed every year.
Corporator PV Narasimham was present.
Door-to-door survey
The MLA conducted a door-to-door survey at Kapudibba at 98th Ward of GVMC and interacted with the householders as part of 'Suparipalanalo Mundadugu' programme of the government. He asked them whether they were receiving the welfare schemes of the government and assured them that TDR bonds would soon be issued to those whose lands were acquired for the BRTS roads in the past. He said he had already apprised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Minister for Municipal Administration P. Narayana in this regard.
The TDR bonds would be issued once the five-member committee, appointed by the government, gives its report on the issue. He added that a total of 12,149 constructions were regularised in the first phase as part of providing a solution to the 'pancha gramalu' problem. A solution would be worked out for the vacant land, farm land and other land under 'pancha gramalu' (Simhachalam devasthanam lands).

Ajit Pawar visits Hinjewadi to inspect civic issues, tells officials to act tough against those who stop land acquisition

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar visited the IT hub in Hinjewadi Sunday morning following complaints of waterlogging and traffic jams in the area. Pawar reached Hinjewadi by around 6.30 am and was accompanied by scores of officials from Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), police and district authorities. After visiting a few spots, Pawar directed the officials to act tough against those who stop land acquisition for widening roads. 'Don't listen to anyone. Straightaway, file a case. If anyone is obstructing government work, take action against them,' Pawar said. Pawar said, 'If citizens lose their own land, the government will provide them with transferable development rights (TDR). We will ensure that they do not suffer loss.' Ajit Pawar told the officials not to keep the road narrow. 'Widen them, make them four lane…The traffic flow should not be affected,' he said. He also pulled up Metro officials over the construction of a ramp, which was affecting the traffic flow. He also expressed his resentment over the construction of buildings on water streams. The Hinjewadi IT hub has seen public anger over waterlogging and daily traffic jams on the roads. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Thursday held a meeting of top officials and stakeholders, and announced the setting up of a 'single-point authority' headed by the divisional commissioner to look into the issue. PMRDA to take initiative for land acquisition, convert Laxmi Chowk bridge into a six-lane structure, MIDC to complete the road widening project, and Metro administration to ensure adequate parking provisions were some of Fadnavis's directives. At the meeting held at Vidhan Bhavan, Ajit Pawar, BJP MLAs Mahesh Landge, Shankar Jagtap, and Shankar Mandekar, PCMC and PMC commissioners, district collector, PMRDA commissioners, MIDC officials, representatives from the IT Forum and the Society Federation were present.

Vice Chancellors of JNU will be referred to as Kulgurus, says MP CM

Bhopal, Vice Chancellors of the Jawaharlal Nehru University will be henceforth referred to as "Kulgurus", drawing "inspiration" from a similar decision of the Madhya Pradesh government last year, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Wednesday. Vice Chancellors of JNU will be referred to as Kulgurus, says MP CM Addressing ministers ahead of the state cabinet meeting, Yadav stated that JNU has adopted the "navachar" introduced by the state government. "Like Madhya Pradesh, the Vice Chancellor of JNU will now be known as 'Kulguru'," he said. However, the chief minister did not clarify whether JNU has formally implemented this change or if an official administrative order has been issued. Yadav noted that the decision draws inspiration from a decision taken by the Madhya Pradesh government last year, which renamed the university post of Vice Chancellor to 'Kulguru.' He had stated that the change aligns with Indian sanskriti and Guru Parampara , and that the term "Kulpati" could be problematic for women officeholders due to its awkward connotation. The chief minister on Wednesday reiterated that women beneficiaries of the Ladli Behna Yojana will receive a special assistance of ₹250 for Rakshabandhan, in addition to their regular monthly financial aid. Beneficiaries will receive the amount directly into their accounts on July 12. To mark Guru Purnima on July 10, Yadav announced a two-day Guru Purnima Utsav in all schools and colleges. District ministers, public representatives, prominent citizens, and saints will participate in the celebrations. On this occasion, Sandipani Vidyalaya will be inaugurated in Bhopal, he added. Yadav claimed the removal of BRTS has reduced road accidents by 51 per cent and fatalities by 70 per cent, which he said is a "pleasant outcome of the decisions taken by the Madhya Pradesh government in public interest". The government had decided to remove BRTS in January 2024. This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.
