Kieran Tierney roars the Celtic band is back together as Hoops tell cheeky transfer bidder it's double or nothing

Tierney is back in green and white and had a straightforward message after his first meeting with one familiar face
'The band is back together.'
Those were Kieran Tierney's first words to one Celtic teammate after meeting him for the first time since returning to Parkhead.

Tierney is officially checked back in after six years at Arsenal and it's almost as if he's never been away. He came through the academy with the likes of Callum McGregor, Anthony Ralston and Ross Doohan and those who have played with him before are grinning at the sight of him back in green and white.

Keeper Doohan also returns to the club this summer after a spell away and he met Tierney for the first time since they both re-signed when he joined the Scotland camp for the trip to Liechtenstein last month.
And he made a point to seek out his old pal – who had a simple message for him.
'KT was a year older than me growing up in the youth teams, but we obviously played together a lot," the returning keeper said.
'You obviously know the type of player KT is, what he's like and the type of person he's like, so it's another great addition to the squad.
'I spoke to him when I went away on Scotland duty, so we were both there together when I got the late call. He was there chatting, but I've known KT for years now, so I was just looking forward to getting back to it. I think he said to me when I saw him it was about getting the band back together.

'He said that to me when I saw him so it's obviously great coming back and then me and him in the same situation, leaving a few years then later both coming back.
'We've always had a good relationship. We spoke a lot, although, in the last few years, maybe not as much. But every time we see each other, we chat away and always had the conversation.
'I've got the relationship with Tony Ralston because he was in the same youth squad as me from 13, so we went right through it together. We're pretty close.

'One of my loan spells was at Ayr, so me and Luke McCowan played together for quite a bit. We played together for two seasons, so I still keep in contact with him, so it's good to come back to a good few familiar faces.'
Elsewhere it's reported that the Hoops have told Bolton to double their money for Johnny Kenny – or risk missing out on the striker.
Kenny is a target for the EFL League One side but their opening offer, believed to be in the region of £500,000, has been turfed out.

Celtic found that bid to be a touch cheeky and, according to the Scottish Sun, have told them to double it and cough up £1m.
The Irishman spent the first half of last season on loan at Shamrock Rovers and racked up the goals in Ireland, including five in six Conference League appearances, before returning to Parkhead in February.
He scored his first goal for the club against Aberdeen, serving largely as the third-choice No.9 behind Adam Idah and Daizen Maeda.
But with Callum Osmand set to come in from Fulham and another striker being chased beyond that, it's believed Kenny is surplus to requirements.
Celtic however won't be selling him on the cheap even as Kenny enters the final year on his contract.

Viktor Gyokeres is 'left FURIOUS with Sporting Lisbon after club chief's comments' - as 'betrayed star repeats strike threat' in boost for Arsenal and Man United

Viktor Gyokeres is 'left FURIOUS with Sporting Lisbon after club chief's comments' - as 'betrayed star repeats strike threat' in boost for Arsenal and Man United Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly looking to force a move away from Sporting Lisbon The striker is unhappy at comments that were made by the club's hierarchy LISTEN: Will Liverpool sign Alexander Isak? Merseyside reporter Lewis Steele provides the latest on the potential transfer on Whistleblowers podcast Arsenal and Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres will reportedly attempt to force a transfer from Sporting Lisbon this summer. The striker has been heavily linked with a move away from the Portuguese club, who are attempting to increase the potential fee for a transfer. As reported by Record, Gyokeres will refuse to return to Sporting as he looks to secure a departure. Gyokeres is unhappy with comments made by Sporting president Frederico Varandas. Although he will be given an extra week off before he is expected to return to pre-season training, it is now anticipated that Gyokeres won't show up. Gyokeres has also reportedly threatened to publicly voice his opinion on the situation. The Sweden international isn't pleased at suggestions that the club won't honour the agreement that was in place to let him leave for less than his release clause. Viktor Gyokeres could attempt to force a transfer from Sporting Lisbon this summer Reports have indicated that Gyokeres will refuse to return to Sporting for pre-season training Gyokeres is unhappy with comments made by Sporting president Frederico Varandas Varandas said: 'Sporting is calm regarding this matter. Secondly, Sporting does not need to sell Viktor Gyokeres. Fortunately, we have moved past the phase of selling our main asset. 'However, we remain sensitive to Viktor's dreams or those of any other athlete. Sporting has made a commitment that, after weeks of meetings, we will not demand the full amount of the clause; we will be reasonable regarding the amount requested for Viktor.' Although Varandas acknowledged that Gyokeres is likely to depart, he stated that the fee will be much higher than the potential price of £60million plus £10million in add-ons. He also claimed that Gyokeres is worth more than Matheus Cunha, who joined Manchester United from Wolves for £62.5million. Varandas said: 'Today, there is a strong likelihood that he will leave. I won't disclose the amount, but the player knows what it is. I can say that Viktor will not leave for 60+10m. He won't leave, absolutely not. 'We have been watching the market and I saw [Martin] Zubimendi, who is six months younger than Viktor, leave for €65million. I saw Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, both forwards but who, in my opinion, do not have Viktor's market value or quality, being negotiated for around €75million. 'Given the demands we consider fair, I believe Viktor could leave – unless he has the worst agent in the world, which is hard for me to believe, because he is one of the best footballers in the world.' Gyokeres, whose current contract at Sporting runs until 2028, scored 54 goals in 52 club games last season. Mikel Arteta could look to bring in Gyokeres to add to Arsenal's attacking options Gyokeres has previous experience of working with Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim Both Arsenal and United are looking to add to their attacking options during the summer transfer window. Gyokeres previously worked with United boss Ruben Amorim at Sporting, while he could be tempted by the possibility of joining the Gunners, who have also been linked with RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.

Thomas Partey makes final decision on Arsenal exit with one day left on contract

Arsenal have been in talks with Thomas Partey over a new contract since April, but the 32-year-old Ghana international is now set to leave the club next week as a free agent Thomas Partey is poised to leave Arsenal after the club failed to come to an agreement over a new contract for the midfielder. The Gunners had been keen to keep Partey, but he will now depart when his contract expires on Tuesday. Mikel Arteta spoke publicly about his desire to keep the 32-year-old, who played a key role in the 2024/25 campaign. But negotiations have dragged on and on and, with his current deal expiring on June 30, they have finally decided to call it quits. ‌ Arsenal first opened talks over an extension in April, but have already plugged the gap he is about to leave. Martin Zubimendi is joining in a £51million transfer from Real Sociedad next month and the Gunners have also bid £9.3m for Brentford captain Christian Norgaard after Jorginho also departed on a free transfer for Flamengo. ‌ Partey has been free to speak to foreign clubs since January and has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce, who are managed by Jose Mourinho, and has been offered a big-money contract in the Saudi Pro League. He has been with Arsenal since 2020, when he arrived from Atletico Madrid for £45m, and has made 167 appearances across all competitions. Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta, who used to work at Partey's old club Atleti, was the man tasked with agreeing new terms for Partey. But the club have now decided to walk away from the negotiating table. Asked in April whether there had been progress over a new deal for Partey, Arteta said: "Yes, there is progress with all the players. I'll leave that to Andrea and the club to decide and to talk about." Pushed on whether the intention is to keep Partey, he added: "The intention is very clear. I'll leave that to Andrea and the club to take a step forward." Arsenal's move for Zubimendi has been delayed because Real Sociedad want to bank the transfer fee in the new football financial year, which begins on July 1. The Gunners spent a long time negotiating with the Spanish side in order to secure a favourable deal in terms of spreading out the cost. ‌ Meanwhile, Arsenal are still looking to sign a centre-forward in the summer transfer window, with RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko the preference ahead of Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres. Arteta also wants to bolster his options in the wide positions, with Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze on the radar, along with Real Madrid 's Rodrygo. They are closing in on a deal for Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera, although their opening offer was dejected by the Spanish side. But a £5m deal for Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga will go through soon.

Tuchel must ensure England U21s heroes get step up they deserve after Euros win

There are no guarantees for England's latest generation of under-21s. Apart from one thing, of course… the experience, knowledge and buzz of winning and that is priceless for this group. To win back-to-back finals is a remarkable achievement. The under-21s have become England's real Golden Generation. Lee Carsley has built a winning environment which can and should be taken into Thomas Tuchel's senior set-up. It is also great for the whole nation because the thrilling win over Germany in the European Championships under-21s final saw 3.7million tune in on Channel 4. Now it has to be about who can make the step up into the seniors to bring with them that winning mentality which, arguably, is the most important ingredient in tournament football. Just look at this group. They were missing the likes of Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, Adam Wharton and Jobe Bellingham for various reasons and yet others stepped up to the plate. That is a huge tribute to Carsley's coaching and there must be a sense of him also proving a point after his brief and mixed stint as caretaker boss of the seniors. Liverpool's Harvey Elliott was voted Player of the Tournament and absolutely has a chance of next summer. If anything, Tuchel must reward these players and show there is a pathway. Elliott has all the ingredients. It was good to see Tuchel make the Transatlantic dash to get to the final and, after so many questions about whether he is interested in the long term, it is vital these players do get every chance. Jarell Quansah may be heading out of Liverpool but if he moves abroad he may get regular game time and he is good on the ball, reads danger and has shown leadership in this tournament. England have a major issue in defence and players like Quansah and indeed Tino Livramento have a huge opportunity. Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri was a fringe player in Slovakia but his ability and skill will carry him all the way to the top. You have to be realistic about this. Omari Hutchinson is a player still searching for a path at club level despite his obvious potential. He is a prime example of a player who can shine at under-21 level and yet not necessarily make the step up. Let's hope he does. But there will be a lot of eyes on Manchester City academy graduate James McAtee because two years ago it was Cole Palmer who was on the same path. He won the under-21s with England, left City and has now become a huge name in his own right. That team also included James Trafford, Levi Colwill, Curtis Jones, Anthony Gordon and Morgan Gibbs-White who have all become regulars in the senior squad. That is a remarkable production line. It's pretty unusual for that number of players to make the step up from one squad. That is maybe why McAtee needs to and probably will move. He arguably does not have the same natural talent as Palmer but he does now have the same winning mentality. And that deserves to carry him a long way. Now it is over to England boss Tuchel to ensure the path is clear and fair for these players to follow the stars of two years ago to make the step up.
