Purple Line: Nepal team discusses consulate shift
The division bench, comprising Justices Debanshu Basak and Prasenjit Biswas, on Wednesday dismissed the appeal of tenants of City Properties at 1, National Library Avenue, on the DH Road-Ekbalpore crossing so that the Nepal Consulate next door could be relocated there.
Around 60 m of the Purple Line's 450-m ramp will be constructed next to the existing Nepal Consulate premises on 7/1, DH Road. RVNL on Thursday presented to the Nepal govt representatives the plan to build a three-storey building after razing the ramshackle City Properties structure. The land will then be used for utility diversion and widening of the western side of Diamond Harbour Road.

Tejasvi Surya leads protest demanding completion of Yellow Line Metro in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Bengaluru South MP and BJP Yuva Morcha National President Tejasvi Surya led a protest on Saturday demanding the completion of the Yellow Line Metro project in Bengaluru. Hundreds of residents, along with Bengaluru Central MP P. C. Mohan, BJP MLA Ravi Subramanya, and other party leaders, participated in the protest. Demonstrators held placards and raised slogans against the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). The placards read: "Enough of delays, give a final deadline for Yellow Line", "Yellow Line delayed, Bengaluru betrayed." Speaking at the protest, Tejasvi Surya said, "The only way to solve Bengaluru's traffic problem is to reduce the number of private vehicles and promote the use of public transport. The Metro and RTC buses are the most important means of mass transport." He added that the Yellow Line, which connects the residential areas of South Bengaluru to Electronics City, has seen a delay of nearly four years. "Operations were supposed to begin in 2021. Now it's 2025, and we still don't have clarity. BMRCL has missed more than 12 announced deadlines. Even today, the BMRCL Managing Director refuses to give a concrete timeline," he said. Surya accused the state government of not putting its full weight behind the timely completion of the project. "Moreover, Metro fares have been increased by over 100 per cent. A committee that conducted an international tour submitted a report, after which a 130 per cent hike was implemented," he stated. "As a result, ridership has dropped by nearly 1 lakh passengers per day. We have been demanding that the fare fixation committee report be made public. What is there to hide? Metro is funded by the people. Don't they have the right to know why the fares were increased?" he questioned. Surya also said, "If necessary, I will approach the court to obtain the report. The Central government has done its job—both regulatory clearances and funding were provided promptly. Execution is the state's responsibility. Why hasn't it been done?" He pointed out that the state government has still not invited tenders for Metro Phase 3, even though it received clearance from the Centre a year ago. "Why? The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka must answer," he demanded. "The patience of Bengaluru's citizens is wearing thin. The BMRCL MD says he hopes the Yellow Line will be inaugurated before August 15. We want a firm commitment. If not, today's protest was just a sample—there will be larger-scale protests across all Yellow Line stations," Surya warned. MLA Ravi Subramanya added that Metro services should be made available to the public at the earliest. "The Congress-led government should not force us to resort to intense agitations. Bureaucrats must also step up," he said. In response, BMRCL MD M. Maheshwar Rao acknowledged receiving petitions from citizens. "People want access to the Yellow Line services. I hope most statutory approvals will be completed by July 10. After that, we will approach the authorities for final clearance. Once protocol checks are done, the Yellow Line will become operational," he said.

Aiming to open Yellow Line of Bengaluru Metro by August 15, says BMRCL MD as demand grows
Amid growing demand to open the Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro connecting RV Road and Bommasandra via Electronic City, Maheshwar Rao, the managing director of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has assured that the agency is targeting to commission the stretch by August 15. This comes after Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya along with Bangalore Central MP P C Mohan and other BJP MLAs held a citizens' protest rally under the slogan 'Yellow Line na open maadi (Open Yellow Line)' at Lalbagh Main Gate on Saturday, urging BMRCL to commission the much-awaited stretch. Additionally, Surya also demanded that the metro rail corporation make public the fare fixation report, which had recommended over 100 per cent hike in Metro fares, triggering public ire. Addressing the gathering at the protest site, Rao said, 'Currently, we have three trains, with the third train having arrived last month. Since these are automated train operating systems, an independent safety assessment test is underway which will check the safety controls of these driverless trains. We are expecting the report by July 7.' He added, 'Once the report is submitted within next week, we will request regulatory clearance and approvals from CMRS (Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety). The entire regulatory process and necessary approvals will need at least a month's time. Therefore, tentatively, we are targeting to operationalise the stretch by August 15.' Rao also stated that due to insufficient train supply, BMRCL is likely to operationalise the stretch using only three trains with a headway of 20 minutes. 'The trains will stop at only five to six stations. We will study the ridership patterns, including demand for services, till Bommasandra and streamline the operations accordingly. We are expecting two trains every month from the Titagarh Rail System starting August,' he said. Meanwhile, Rao stated that finalisation of loans for Phase 3 of the Bengaluru Metro is expected by March 2026. Phase 3, which includes two elevated corridors spanning 44.65 km with 31 stations, is estimated to cost Rs 15,611 crore. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is likely to provide a significant loan, with approximately Rs 7,577 crore (60%) expected to be sourced from it. Rao said that pre-preparatory works will be done by September and tenders will be floated by October, subject to JICA approvals. Slamming the BMRCL in connection with the lack of transparency over the fare fixation report (FFR), Tejasvi Surya said, 'Metro and bus services are the two most crucial modes of public transport. Recently, BMRCL hiked Metro fares by up to 100%. Before announcing the revision, a committee had gone on an international tour and submitted a report, based on which fares were increased by as much as 130%. Since the hike, Metro ridership has dropped by nearly 1 lakh commuters every day.' He added, 'Several journalists and activists have filed RTI applications seeking details of the report. However, even after three months, the report has not been made public. What is the BMRCL trying to hide? FFR is no national secret that publishing it would help India's enemies.' The BMRCL MD said he will respond to Surya in this regard through a letter. Meanwhile, on the status of the Hebbal–Sarjapur Metro corridor, Rao said, 'The government of India has asked us to rework the cost. An independent agency has been engaged to explore whether the cost can be brought down. The MP raised concerns about the proposed tunnel road on the same alignment. We will look into it.'

Resolve Hinjewadi IT Park woes by July 25 or face stir: MP Supriya Sule warns Maharashtra govt
PUNE: MP Supriya Sule on Friday warned that if the mounting civic and infrastructure issues in the Hinjewadi IT Park area are not resolved by July 25, she will launch an agitation on July 26. Following a ground survey of the area, Sule reiterated her long-standing demand for a dedicated authority to address the region's complex governance challenges. In a strongly worded letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Sule called for the creation of a Special City Development Authority or an Industrial Township Authority with autonomous powers for the Hinjawadi-Maan-Marunji cluster and nearby villages including Jambhe, Gahunje, Nande, Lavale, Pirangut, and Bhukum. "There must be integrated planning, funding and service delivery. Right now, the governance is fragmented," she told TOI. The Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, which houses over 300 IT companies and employs more than 3 lakh professionals, contributes significantly to Maharashtra's economy. According to the 2024 STPI report, the Pune region accounts for a majority of the Rs 1.05 lakh crore annual software exports. Yet, Sule noted, the area continues to suffer from poor civic amenities, traffic congestion, unauthorized construction, and frequent waterlogging. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo You Can Also Check: Pune AQI | Weather in Pune | Bank Holidays in Pune | Public Holidays in Pune 'There has been rampant construction over natural drainage channels in multiple locations. This has worsened flooding issues,' she said, adding that Metro debris, uncleaned drains, and incomplete roads have compounded the crisis. During her Friday visit, Sule said she had repeatedly sought time from the CM and demanded a comprehensive meeting with all stakeholders. 'When he takes the meeting, it must be a jumbo meeting with all stakeholders, not just a formality,' she said. She also called for the removal of Metro construction debris, immediate cleaning of all drains, and completion of roads within a year—commitments that, she said, were made to her by officials. A review meeting with the Industries Minister is scheduled for July 8, she added. Sule said she would now visit the area twice a month to monitor the situation. Responding to local demands to merge the area with Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), she said, 'We are open to any solution—whether PCMC or a new authority—as long as the issues are addressed.'she said The demands include: a moratorium on new building permissions until basic infrastructure is ensured, Fast-tracked civic upgrades in roads, water, waste management, policing, and transport, a single-window governance system to reduce administrative delays and involvement of citizens and industry bodies in local planning and execution.
