BYD Sime Motors partners with Transport Ministry
The 'Jom Pandu BYD Bersama MOT' initiative is a six-month programme designed to offer Ministry personnel an immersive EV driving experience. Backed by Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd—a subsidiary of Gentari Sdn Bhd—two EV chargers have been installed at the MOT headquarters in Putrajaya to support the campaign.
At the official launch ceremony held at the Ministry's complex, the partnership was inaugurated by Transport Minister YB Loke Siew Fook and Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director for Southeast Asia at Sime Motors. They were joined by Deputy Transport Minister YB Datuk Haji Hasbi Bin Habibollah, MOT Secretary General YBhg. Dato' Jana Santhiran Muniayan, General Manager of BYD Sime Motors Adeline Lew, and Izuan Hafiz, Head of Green Mobility MY-SG at Gentari.
Through this initiative, BYD Sime Motors is providing the Ministry with its entire lineup of EVs–including the BYD Sealion 7, BYD Seal, BYD Atto 3 Ultra, BYD M6, and BYD Dolphin–on a temporary loan basis. The test drive programme gives MOT staff hands-on experience with these electric models, allowing them to better understand their technological advancements, performance capabilities, and day-to-day practicality.
Jeffrey Gan expressed confidence that the initiative would spur a deeper appreciation for electric mobility within government ranks. He affirmed that BYD Sime Motors is proud to lead the charge alongside the Ministry of Transport in advancing the national low-carbon agenda. The experience, he noted, is designed to inspire greater EV uptake not just among the public but also within government vehicle fleets.
The collaboration represents more than a showcase of EV models–it signals a broader step towards embedding sustainable transport practices within public sector operations. By encouraging firsthand interaction with EVs, the programme aims to inform policy decisions and promote institutional readiness for the adoption of clean mobility solutions.
In support of this push, two 22kW AC chargers have been installed at the Ministry, reinforcing the role of public-private partnerships in developing Malaysia's EV infrastructure. Gentari, which currently operates over 530 charging points nationwide, plays a central role in achieving the government's ambitious target of 10,000 public chargers by 2025 as outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap.
This collaboration between BYD Sime Motors, the Ministry of Transport, and Gentari sets a precedent for future efforts to integrate electric vehicles into Malaysia's transport ecosystem. As the country intensifies its sustainability efforts, initiatives like Jom Pandu BYD Bersama MOT pave the way for a cleaner, more energy-efficient future.

MIRI (July 18): Sarawak is building a comprehensive education ecosystem that nurtures talent from primary to tertiary levels, where every student becomes a part of the state's story in STEM education agenda, said State Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn. He said his ministry remains steadfast in its commitment to making Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education accessible, relevant, and inspiring for all students, regardless of their background. Sagah made the remarks during the officiating of the two-day 'Sarawak STEM Trailblazers 2025' at Curtin University Malaysia here today. 'This is not just an event. It is the beginning of a larger journey, one where every student is encouraged to dream big, build boldly, and become a part of Sarawak's story in STEM,' he said. With 157 teams applying for this year's event – far exceeding the initial target of 91, Sagah described the overwhelming response as a testament to the growing passion for STEM education among Sarawakian youths. The minister also outlined several key initiatives currently being implemented under the Ministry to strengthen Sarawak's STEM education agenda. One such programme is 'STEM Catalyst', a touring carnival that delivers hands-on STEM learning experiences to over 130 schools statewide. The programme has so far reached over 6,000 primary pupils, using Raspberry Pi kits and interactive demonstrations to transform classrooms into innovation hubs and ignite pupils' interest in technology. Additionally, the Sarawak Education Enhancement Programme (SEEP) continues to provide free tuition for Form 3 and Form 5 students. This initiative supports academic performance, particularly in STEM-related subjects, by giving students access to additional learning resources. Another major programme is the Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES), scheduled to begin in 2026. 'These efforts are more than just academic success – they are about opening doors and providing equal opportunities for all children to succeed in the knowledge economy,' Sagah emphasised. He also noted that STEM Trailblazers play a key role in the Post-Covid Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), aiming to transform Sarawak into a talent-and-innovation-driven economy. The minister called on all stakeholders to sustain the momentum of this initiative by ensuring continued support, deeper partnerships, and long-term investment in education. Ongoing crackdown in Labuan nets RM224,000 in seized goods
LABUAN: A total of RM224,718.51 worth of goods have been seized here following intensive enforcement actions by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry to date this year. So far, its Labuan branch has inspected 9,356 business premises across the island, leading to 96 enforcement cases under five different legislations. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's Labuan director Junaidah Arbain said the most common violations involved the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, with 49 cases, followed closely by 31 cases under the Weights and Measures Act 1972. "Additionally, eight cases were recorded under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, five under the Trade Descriptions Act, and three under the Consumer Protection Act 1999. "Alongside the seizures, enforcement efforts included the issuance of compounds amounting to RM72,500 and court-imposed fines totalling RM93,500," she told Bernama today. Ministry officials also received and resolved all 77 consumer complaints lodged during the same period. Junaidah said the most frequent grievance involved pricing issues, accounting for 32 complaints. "KPDN Labuan emphasises that all complaints have been fully investigated and no cases remain pending. "The ministry reaffirms its commitment to protecting consumer rights and ensuring business compliance, pledging to continue its rigorous enforcement and awareness efforts throughout the year," she said. – Bernama

Sabah Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living seizes 16,160 litres of diesel in Penampang raid

PENAMPANG: The Sabah Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) busted an operation involved in the misappropriation of subsidised diesel in a raid on a premises in Kampung Sindaanan, Kobusak, Penampang. The 6.53pm raid on Tuesday (July 15) led to the seizure of 16,180 litres of diesel, an Isuzu Trooper and various related equipment, with the total seizure value of RM53,527. Advertisement A local in his 30s, believed responsible for the operation, was detained to assist with investigations under the Supply Control Act 1961. Initial investigation revealed that the premises did not have a valid licence or authorisation to store controlled goods. The bust followed a week-long surveillance and tip-offs from the public, said KPDN Sabah in a statement. The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961, Regulation 3(1) of the Supply Control Regulations 1974 for trading controlled items without a licence and Section 20(1) of the same Act for storing such goods at an unauthorised location. Under the Act, individuals found guilty can face a fine of up to RM1 million, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, with heavier penalties for repeat offenders. Companies, if convicted, face fines of up to RM2 million and up to RM5 million for subsequent offences. KPDN reminded petrol station operators not to sell RON95 petrol or subsidised diesel to unlicensed buyers, warning that any retailer caught flouting the regulations will face enforcement under Regulation 21(1) and Regulation 12A of the Supply Control Regulations 1974. The Ministry stressed that it would continue regular inspections and enforcement throughout Sabah to prevent abuse of subsidised fuel, which causes significant losses to the Government and the public. From Jan 1 to July 16, KPDN Sabah has taken enforcement action in 1,179 cases, with total seizures amounting to RM22.2 million and RM276,250 in compounds issued. In the same period, 1,112 consumer complaints were received, with 92.7 pc (1,031) resolved and 7.3 pc (81) still under investigation. The Ministry also conducted 82,322 premise inspections, 62,307 in urban areas and 19,244 in rural locations.
