While addressing students and faculty members at Pondicherry University, Dhankhar said, '...Sanatan pride is rebuilding. What was lost is being rebuilt with stronger determination.'
'Scholars from all over the world came to share their ideas and learn about our wisdom,' he said.
He spoke in detail about the destruction of Nalanda University, once home to a nine-story library known as Dharamganj, calling it a tragic loss for global knowledge. 'In two waves of invasion, first the Islamic invasion, and then British colonialism, India suffered a blow to its knowledge heritage. Bakhtiyar Khilji, around 1190, demonstrated cruelty and barbarity. He acted totally against any sense of civilizational ethos. And then, the books alone did not burn. He slit the throats of monks, smashed stupas, and razed the soul of India in his assessment not realizing that the soul of Bharat is indestructible,' he said.
'The fire raged for years. It swallowed 9 million, 90 lakh books and texts. Our history turned to cinders. Nalanda was much beyond a school of thought; it was a living, vibrant temple of knowledge for the benefit of the entire humanity,' Dhankhar added.
Vice President Dhankhar also urged for more dialogue and less confrontation in politics, warning against a rising political temperature in the country. 'Friends, there is a need for a change of national mindset also... We have picked up the habit of not making a difference but differing one with one another... There has to be Abhivyakti, there has to be Vaad-Vivad, there has to be expression, there has to be dialogue,' he said.
'We are too keen to raise the political temperature. Climate change is doing that for us. We all are concerned. Why should we melt the glaciers of our patience? Why should we act impatiently getting away from our civilisational, spiritual essence?' he asked.
He appealed to political leaders to focus on national interest and development, stating that 'India at the moment is the most aspirational nation in the world.'
Expressing concern over the commodification of education, Dhankhar stressed a return to India's Gurukul system. He said, 'There was a time when education and health were means by those who had enough resources to give back to the society... Our education must align with India's traditional Gurukul system.'
He called on corporates to use CSR funds to create world-class educational institutions: 'I appeal a mindset change with the corporates. India has been home to philanthropy. Pool your CSR resources to create by converging Institutes of global eminence as green field projects, much away from the concept of balance sheets.'
Dhankhar encouraged Pondicherry University alumni to contribute to the university's development. 'Let every alumni of this institute contribute to this fund. Boys and girls, the amount does not matter, the spirit matters,' he said.
He quoted astronaut Neil Armstrong, saying, 'A small step by him, a giant leap for humanity... So, for alumni, it may be a small step, but cumulatively, the results will be geometric.'
On India's linguistic diversity, the Vice President underlined it as a strength, not a divider. 'How can we be divided on languages?... Sanskrit is important globally, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, Bengali, and Assamese. I name these 11 because they are our classical languages,' he said.
'Our languages indicate inclusivity. Sanatan teaches us nothing but to be in togetherness for the same sublime purpose,' he added, appealing to the nation to rise above divisiveness.
Dhankhar urged everyone to reflect on India's achievements, stay grounded in its spiritual values, and unite for a better future. (ANI)

Bihar: NIA charge sheets another accused in the PFI case, funds traced to Dubai
Patna: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has charge sheeted Md Sajjad Alam of East Champaran, Bihar, in connection with the anti-national activities of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), making him the 18th accused to be arrested and charge sheeted in the case. The NIA filed its supplementary charge sheet before the NIA Special Court, Patna, charging Sajjad under various sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P)A). Sajjad, an active PFI cadre, was arrested at Delhi's IGI Airport in January this year upon his arrival from Dubai. According to NIA investigations, Sajjad was channelling illegal funds from Dubai to PFI operatives in Bihar through a syndicate operating in Karnataka and Kerala. These funds were allegedly used to further the criminal and unlawful activities of PFI even after the organisation was banned by the Union government. The NIA stated that the broader PFI conspiracy aimed to 'establish' Islamic rule in India by 2047 and involved activities designed to terrorise people and disrupt peace by spreading communal enmity. The case was originally registered on 12 July 2022 at Phulwarisharif Police Station, Patna, against 26 individuals under IPC sections. The NIA took over the probe, invoking the UA(P)A and previously charge sheeting 17 accused. The PFI module was initially busted by the Patna Police and the ATS in 2022 while conducting physical training camps for Muslim youths at Phulwarisharif under the PFI banner. The camps, held at the house of Mohammad Jalaluddin, a retired Jharkhand police sub-inspector, along with Athar Parvez, allegedly aimed at brainwashing youths against India. Athar Parvez's brother, Manzar Alam, was involved in the 2013 Patna Gandhi Maidan serial blast during Narendra Modi's 'Hunkar Rally'. The then Patna SSP, Manavjeet Singh Dhillon, had recommended handing over the case to the NIA, following which the agency began its probe. The NIA has indicated that further investigations in the case are ongoing to uncover deeper financial and operational networks of the banned PFI in Bihar and other states.

Delhi to trial run cloud seeding to combat smog menace
New Delhi [India], July 2 (ANI): In a bid to tackle the city's worsening air pollution, Delhi's Environment Minister Majinder Singh Sirsa announced a trial run of artificial rain through cloud seeding, set to commence between late August and early September, with five tests planned to assess its efficacy against smog, particularly during Diwali and September. 'We have been successful in securing permission for artificial rain through cloud seeding... We will run the trial between the end of August and the first week of September. We will conduct five trials to learn if it could be efficient against the smog that collects during Diwali or in September,' he said. On May 7, the Delhi cabinet on Wednesday passed a historic decision to conduct cloud seeding, also known as artificial rain, in the national capital to mitigate pollution. Pollution has been a serious concern for the state for some time, and to help curb it, the cabinet has taken a significant step in partnership with IIT Kanpur, according to a member. The activity is planned to be conducted in the last week of May, after the cabinet has obtained all the necessary permissions from various departments and stakeholders. The exercise will be conducted in partnership with IIT Kanpur, and their Aircraft, a Cessna, will be used for the purpose. The Delhi government plans to conduct five trials in the outer area of the national capital. The cost for one-time rain will account for 66 lakhs, and the operational cost will be 55 lakhs. The total cost for the entire trial plan can go up to 2 crores 55 lakhs. The aim of the Delhi government is to mitigate pollution in the national capital to achieve its goal of a Viksit Delhi. Pollution remains a pressing concern in Delhi, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) often reaching very poor levels. Although several projects have been undertaken in the past to address this issue, none have provided a lasting solution to Delhi's pollution problem. (ANI)

AICWA urges PM Modi to enforce ban on Pakistani artists' digital presence in India
New Delhi [India], July 2 (ANI): The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has issued a formal appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a complete and permanent ban on the digital and media presence of all Pakistani nationals and entertainment-related entities in India. In a statement shared through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the association expressed concern over the reappearance of Pakistani actors and media channels on Indian digital platforms. AICWA cited the active social media presence of Pakistani celebrities such as Mawra Hocane and Yumna Zaidi, along with several Pakistan-based entertainment outlets, calling it 'an emotional assault' on the families of victims of terrorism. 'This is not merely a digital appearance, it is a direct insult to the sacrifice of our martyred soldiers,' the association said. It referenced terror attacks including 26/11, Pulwama, Uri, and Pahalgam as part of its appeal, reiterating its long-standing position that Pakistan is responsible for continued cross-border terrorism. AICWA also raised objections to statements allegedly made by Pakistani public figures following India's recent Operation Sindoor, stating that 'instead of showing remorse, several Pakistani artists have shamelessly spoken against India.' Highlighting the cultural disconnect already in place from Pakistan's side, AICWA pointed out that Indian films and content remain banned in Pakistan since the Pulwama attack. The association questioned why Indian platforms should allow any exposure to Pakistani artists under these circumstances. The appeal further stated, 'India has diplomatic and cultural relations with nearly 200 nations across the globe. Cutting off Pakistan completely will have zero negative impact on our economy or entertainment industry.' The organisation called for a nationwide digital blackout of Pakistani social media accounts and media channels, a ban on all future collaborations involving Pakistani citizens across Indian media, OTT platforms, and advertising and a permanent cultural disconnect with Pakistan, as a tribute to India's armed forces and martyrs. The Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians and injured several others, was widely condemned by Indian officials and has significantly heightened public sentiment against cross-border terrorism.
