Part of A2 in Kent closed eastbound after serious crash
Part of the A2 in Kent has been closed following a serious crash, National Highways has said.Traffic was held in both directions between the A2018 near Bexley and the M25 near Dartford shortly after 17:15 BST on Friday.The road was reopened westbound with vehicles released past the scene shortly after 18:40, but motorists were told to expect delays.The eastbound road will remain closed for an investigation into the cause of the crash.
National Highways said an air ambulance and other emergency services were at the scene.Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service have been contacted for more information.

ENGLAND'S most closure-prone roads have been revealed – with the notorious M6 stretch between junctions 6 and 7 near Birmingham taking the top spot in 2025 so far. Freedom of Information data obtained by Co-op Insurance shows that the busy route has experienced the highest number of shut-downs so far this year. 5 5 5 5 5 The section, located in the West Midlands and known as the Spaghetti Junction, has been closed 29 times since January. Connecting the M6 with the A38(M) Aston Expressway and other local roads like the A38 and A5127, the junction is famous for its complex, multi-level design. It also features numerous slip roads, a roundabout - Salford Circus - and elevated roadways. The nickname "Spaghetti' was reportedly coined by a Birmingham Evening Mail journalist in the 1970s, due to the junction's complex network of intertwining roads. This causes significant issues for thousands of drivers, with data showing some 50,000 cars use the M6 toll each day, although the M6 itself is known to carry more traffic, with a section near Wolverhampton said to take some 180,000. Coming in just behind it in the ranking is junctions 37 to 38 on the A1M near Doncaster, while the M1 between junctions 23a and 24 near East Midlands Airport is in third place. Road closures are serious bad news for drivers as they lead to an increase in journey times – which, in turn, means much more stress and frustration. This, of course, can impair driving performance and safety, raising the risk of accidents and incidents occurring. Paul Evans, Head of Motor at Co-op Insurance, said: 'From commuting to leisure trips and visiting loved ones, our motorway network is a vital part of so many people's daily journeys. 'However, our findings suggest that getting from A to B via the motorway can sometimes be less than straightforward, with road closures seemingly on the rise and particularly common on certain stretches of motorway. The motoring experts also found which motorways closed the most throughout 2024 – having found that motorway road closures rose by 18% last year. The number recorded by National Highways in England increased to more than 6,870, with incidents of total closures of both carriageways rising by 14% to just over 280. When it came to the roads worst affected by closures, they found that junction 63 of the A1M at Chester-Le-Street was closed the most – with a sizeable tally of 127. This was followed by the M53 at junction eight northbound in Ellesmere Port and the M6 between junction 21 and 21a in Warrington. Indeed, four out of the top 10 junction locations with the highest number of road closures in 2024 were in Yorkshire – with three on the M621 in Leeds. Elsewhere, three of the top 10 were in Cheshire, with two on the M53.

Council removes 'absolute joke' of a roundabout after hundreds of complaints from motorists
An 'absolute joke' of a roundabout has been removed from a Sydney intersection just days after it was installed following hundreds of complaints from motorists. Drivers were left stunned by the diamond-shaped roundabout at the intersection of Twenty-Eight Avenue and Fifteenth Avenue in Austral, in Sydney's south-west. Motorists said there were a number of near-misses at the busy intersection as drivers attempted to navigate its unique shape. Liverpool City Councillor Peter Ristevski told Nine's Today program on Friday he had received hundreds of complaints about the roundabout. 'My inbox was bombarded with over 300 responses asking, "What is going on? You guys can't even build a roundabout",' he said. Today host Karl Stefanovic described the roundabout as 'an absolute joke', adding it would unfortunately fall on ratepayers to fund its removal. Images published by Nine News on Saturday showed the roundabout had been painted over on Friday night, leaving a dark almond-shaped print on the road. Liverpool City Council chief executive Jason Breton said the council made the decision to remove the roundabout following the community feedback. 'We're going to take the roundabout out over the weekend,' Mr Breton said in a video posted to social media. 'We'll put the road surface back to its original position. 'We'll work with the state and federal governments about the state road and how we can improve it as we move towards the grant money that's been allocated for the area.' Footage previously shared by Nine News depicted the alarming moment two cars nearly collided while attempting to navigate the roundabout. In another close call, a ute had to carry out a three-point turn to move through the roundabout. Drivers were united in their opposition to the roundabout, which was introduced as part of a broader effort to ease congestion and improve safety in the area. 'This has to be one of the worst and most dangerously designed roundabouts I've ever seen,' a local in an Austral and Leppington community forum said on Facebook. 'You literally have to do a U-turn just to turn right — in either direction!' Another said: 'Whoever designed the 'coffin' roundabout may have taken the name a bit too literally.' 'Its layout is so confusing and hazardous, it feels less like a traffic solution and more like a traffic trap,' they said. NSW MP for Leppington Nathan Hagarty previously called the roundabout a 'waste of money', saying the council needed to 'come back and fix up a job'. The local politician posted to the community forum on Sunday saying he had been in contact with the Liverpool Council over concerns about the temporary roundabout. A spokesperson for Transport for New South Wales said the department spoke with Liverpool City Council ahead of the roundabout's removal following complaints from the Member for Leppington and the community. The roundabout was one of five recently installed in the area, including others on Eleventh, Fifteenth and Tenth avenues. In January, the federal and state governments jointly announced a $1billion upgrade to Fifteenth Avenue, but work is not expected to start until 2027.

One person injured after car fire in Ramsgate
One person has been injured after a car caught fire in east Kent, a fire service has said. Emergency services were called to the blaze on Royal Approach Road in Ramsgate just before 20:00 BST on Friday. Two fire engines attended and crews used compressed air foam systems to extinguish the flames. South East Coast Ambulance Service said one person was passed into its care. The cause of the fire was currently unknown, the fire service said. Kent Police has been contacted for comment.
