Cruise ship crew member stabbed female colleague, 28, before jumping overboard to his death in Caribbean
The two crew members, whose identities have not been revealed, were working aboard the lavish Icon Of The Seas shortly before 7.30pm on Thursday evening, when they became embroiled in a "personal dispute".
The man repeatedly stabbed the woman in the upper body and then leapt overboard into the sea off the coast of San Salvador Island in the Bahamas.
As panicked passengers threw life rings into the water, onboard medical staff rushed into a speedboat to rescue him.
Half an hour later, the body of the 35-year-old South African man was retrieved from the sea by the search party.
The woman, aged 28, also from South Africa, was later found on board with stab wounds to her upper body but she is now in a stable condition, Royal Bahamas Police Force told NBC News.
Reports state that the cruise ship immediately slowed down and turned around when the alarm was sounded that the man had gone overboard.
Tracking data shows the ship changed its course northeast of San Salvador Island, around 200 miles east of Nassau.
The decks were sealed off while an emergency rescue effort was carried out.
Images showed medical officers pulling the man's body from the water on to the speedboat.
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said: "One of the crew members was injured, was attended to by the onboard medical team, and she is now in stable condition.
'Unfortunately, the other crew member is deceased after he went overboard and was recovered in a search and rescue operation.'
They added that "a personal dispute" is understood to have led to the attack.
Investigations are ongoing and an autopsy is due to take place to determine the man's cause of death.
The Icon of the Seas holds the record as the world's largest cruise ship, measuring 1,196ft in length by 219ft in width, and it has no fewer than 20 decks. A total of 2,350 international crew members are employed on the ship.

Two brothers who work together in a New Jersey bakery are recovering after police say an irate customer complained about a sandwich he bought years ago, then turned violent. A search for the suspect is underway after the stabbing at Baladna Bakery in South Paterson. I see one of the bakery owners outside holding his arm. His arm was bleeding," a witness named Samer said. "It's surprised everybody because they're very nice people." Both brothers were taken to Saint Joseph's University Hospital. They remained hospitalized Friday, and the bakery was closed. Paterson Mayor André Sayegh was in the Main Street business district Friday talking to residents and merchants. "They're concerned. This type of thing does not happen in that area, so I tried to assuage some of the fears, allay their concerns and reassure them that the police department is completely focused on bringing whomever is responsible for this tragic, violent incident to justice," Sayegh said. The suspect was last seen running away on Main Street. Police have not released a description.

Chicago man charged with hate crime in Portage Park stabbing
A Chicago man has been arrested and charged with a hate crime in a stabbing in the city's Portage Park neighborhood in early July. Police said just after 11 p.m. on July 8, a 42-year-old woman was in the 5700-block of West Addison St. when a man approached her, said a racial slur and then stabbed her. Chicago police arrested 20-year-old Andres Stathoulopoulos Wednesday night just before 8:30 p.m. in Schiller Park, Illinois. 5 victims in Traverse City Walmart stabbing attack released from hospital
Five of the 11 people injured in a stabbing attack at a Traverse City, Michigan, Walmart on July 26 have been treated and released from the hospital, health system officials said Friday. In addition to the five released, four patients are in good condition, and two others have been treated and transferred, according to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, which has been providing medical care. The victims range in age from 29 to 84 years old. "We continue to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the incredible physicians, nurses, surgeons, clinical professionals, and support staff across Munson Healthcare. Their unwavering commitment to care and recovery during this difficult time reflects the strength of our healthcare community," the hospital system said in a statement Friday. Bradford James Gille, 42, of Afton, Michigan, is accused of using a folding knife with a 3.5-inch blade to attack five men and six women, including one store employee, during the late afternoon hours of July 26. Gille is charged with terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder. He was arraigned on July 28 in the 86th District Court and pleaded not guilty. Gille has a history of mental illness and a criminal record that includes assault and malicious destruction of property, according to Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Noelle Moeggenberg. Authorities are still working to determine a motive behind the attack. The store, where the attack occurred in northwest Michigan, reopened Wednesday morning.
