Public transport employees' union demands recruitment of staff, new buses
Speaking at a dharna organised at Pandit Nehru Bus Station in Vijayawada as part of a State-wide protest, the Union's State president P. Damodar Rao raised concern over the 'inordinate delay' in implementing promotions of the employees. He said 3,000 RTC employees were eagerly waiting for promotions for the last six years and urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to approve the same.
He also urged the government to appoint 12th Pay Revision Commission and announce Interim Relief for the employees.
The Union's zonal secretary Y. Srinivasa Rao said that the electric buses proposed to be procured by the government should be operated by the AP PTD staff. He also asked the government to release the pending 24 months arrears under the 11th PRC and arrears of DA.
The Union's State secretary T.V. Bhavani demanded immediate payment of gratuity and leave encashment for the retired and deceased employees of the department and also revival of the medical facilities through referral hospitals, as was provided prior to the merger of the APSRTC with the government.
The Union's State secretary and State Maintenance Committee convener N.C.H. Chakravarthi, organising secretary S.K. Mohiddin, NTR district secretary Sagar, Vijayawada depot secretary Radhakrishna and others participated.

Dalai Lama, and thousands of Tibetans, chose India as their refuge when China captured Tibet in 1950s. Since then, Tibetans in India have lived as a model community. Spread across 39 formal settlements and dozens of informal colonies throughout India, Tibetans have added richness to our social milieu with their cuisine, medicine, culture and spirituality. A lot of this is because of Dalai Lama himself. He has repeatedly expressed his gratitude to India for providing shelter to Tibetans. Contrast this with China where Tibetan culture is being slowly Sinicised, and Tibetan Buddhism is practised under strict supervision of Chinese Communist Party minders. It is in India that Tibetans have been able to freely practise their religion. India has a great track record in sheltering refugees – taking in millions during Bangladesh's 1971 Liberation War – and successive Indian govts have done a lot for Tibetan refugees. But several everyday issues remain. Tibetans face restrictions in terms of travel, can't buy property in India, most can't access bank credit, and have very limited access to higher education and healthcare. Their stateless status can be ameliorated through practical provisions on the ground. Seventy years of their peaceful existence in India shows migrants can add value to society. Pune, July 4 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah today said that National Defence Academy (NDA) is the best place for installing the statue of great warrior, Bajirao Peshwa. Shah was speaking to a gathering after unveiling the statue of Thorle Bajirao Peshwa within the NDA premises. "Peshwa was entrusted with the title by Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj at the age of just nineteen. He transformed Swarajya into an empire," Shah said. "Bajirao Peshwa fought 41 wars in his 20-year tenure and won all of them. I don't think any other warrior has such a history", Shah said. The war strategy of the great Bajirao Peshwa is timeless, he said. "If we study it and decide our strategy, no one will look at India with an evil eye", said Union Home Minister. He said Punyanagari (Pune) is the land of heroes. "Lokmanya Tilak gave the first call to fight against the British for freedom from Pune. Centre to allocate Rs 1L cr to revamp cities, says Manohar Lal Khattar
Gurgaon: Cities in India will be redeveloped through the Centre's Urban Challenge Fund, under which Rs 1 lakh crore will be allocated. The funds will be utilised to improve the infrastructure of the cities, Union minister for power, housing and urban affairs Manohar Lal Khattar said on Friday. The minister also underlined the need for making urban local bodies self-reliant. He said that while these bodies receive a fixed amount of funding from the central and state govts, achieving true self-reliance must go hand-in-hand with "ensuring transparency and accountability in their functioning". Khattar, who was addressing the concluding session of the two-day National ULB Conference in Manesar, said the best practices from leading cities around the world are being adopted to improve urban living conditions. Citing data, he said the urbanisation in India that was at 20% in 1970 has risen to 36% today and is projected to reach 50% by 2047. "A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently signed with Spain to facilitate the exchange of successful urban development models between the two countries," the Union minister said. The minister said urbanisation in India is accelerating rapidly. In response, both govts and municipal bodies must increase their pace of action. He stressed the need for proper workforce training and the efficient use of time and resources to meet future challenges. The Union minister said urban development must go hand in hand with environmental protection. "While pursuing progressive initiatives, it is essential to keep environmental sustainability at the forefront," said Khattar. The minister stressed the need to improve traffic systems and simultaneously plan for e-mobility solutions. He said while metro rail services began in India in 2002 — much later than in the US where metros have existed for over 150 years — India has made remarkable progress. Today, metro networks span 1,000 kilometres across 21 cities, which is comparable to the extent of metro systems in the US. He said there are plans to expand this network.
