France-M'sia forge new path
PARIS: French President Emmanuel Macron regards Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's visit as a success, given the progress made in jointly reviving partnerships across all sectors.
Macron said the rapprochement between the two nations' economies and shared diversification strategies were essential.
He was referring to the newly signed project in the critical minerals and rare earths sector with the company Carester, which just opened a plant in Lacq, the historic cooperation between Malaysia Airlines and Airbus when it came to transport, and also in the field of energy transition.
'In South-East Asia, I reiterated our support for regional electricity connectivity, including support for civil nuclear energy.

'I must also mention the exchanges between our artists, researchers, academics, and students – all those who bring the France-Malaysia relationship to life. New agreements are in view to continue weaving this human connection between our countries.'
In turn, Anwar said the collaboration among the private sector was why government to government arrangements and exchanges with ministers should continue at the higher level.
'I think we have benefited immensely from the education (sector), the AI, the digital engineering that many of our students have been trained in here.
'We want to further explore. We have now started to get French students into Malaysia, and tourism is also increasing,' he added.

'They (voters) want leaders who are knowledgeable, both on local and international matters, and who are committed to issues like the environment and conservation,' he said at the Seremban Umno delegates meeting today, Bernama reported. 'This is the reality. Young voters have very high expectations. They want principled leaders – leaders who can be trusted, and who can strengthen ties among all communities,' he was quoted as saying. Johari said Umno must be more dynamic and open to remain relevant. 'Umno needs to accept the reality that securing a strong majority isn't an easy task, as voters now have diverse ideologies,' he said. 'Don't assume that we will always be the only ones in power. There are times when we must share power. We need to accept the fact that the world today is changing, finding a political party with a strong majority is no longer easy, as each has a different ideology,' he said.

Zahid confident BN-PH ties will lead to election success
BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (fourth from right) has defended the coalition's ties with Pakatan Harapan, which has come under criticism from Umno members. GOPENG : Barisan Nasional is confident that the cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) can ensure they retain the seats won in the last general election, its chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. He said it was based on observations and results of the Mahkota and Ayer Kuning by-elections. He pointed out that BN had secured the Mahkota seat with a majority of 5,166 votes in 2022, but managed to win with a majority of 20,648 votes in the by-election in 2023, thanks to the partnership with PH. 'The same with Ayer Kuning; at the general election, we won with a majority of 2,213 votes, then when the by-election happened, we won with a majority of 5,006 votes. That's the type of increase we can see from the cooperation with PH,' he said at the Gopeng Umno delegates' meeting here today. He said the cooperation with PH should be a guide and reflection for leaders and the grassroots as the strategy is sound and suitable to retain existing power. 'We cannot be proud and arrogant and want to go solo. This is the current reality and by cooperating with PH, we can also become dominant in the national political arena,' he said.

Zahid confirms no going solo, Umno to contest GE16 under BN

(Bernama pic) LUMUT : Umno will not contest the next general election on its own, party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed today, saying the party will remain a component of Barisan Nasional for the elections. Umno would continue to contest the general election (GE16) under BN's dacing (scales) symbol without sidelining partners such as MCA, MIC, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah and its unity government partner Pakatan Harapan. Saying Umno had never contested on its own in the past, Zahid dismissed claims that the party's losses in several by-elections were due to its partnerships with other parties in BN and with Pakatan Harapan. '(The suggestion to contest solo) was not only brought up in Kedah — yesterday I was in Johor, and it was the same sentiment, urging us to go solo,' he said at the Lumut Umno divisional meeting today. 'There are resolutions from some divisions implying that our defeats stem from having allies in BN and PH … that we've been at a disadvantage because we did not contest alone,' he said. Yesterday, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki had also stated that the party would not go solo at the general election as the party had never done so despite the changing political dynamics.
