India achieves 50% non-fossil fuel power capacity five years ahead of target
According to data released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, India's total installed electricity capacity now stands at 484.82 GW, out of which 242.78 GW is from non-fossil fuel sources, including renewable energy (184.62 GW), large hydro (49.38 GW), and nuclear (8.78 GW). Fossil-based thermal power stands at 242.04 GW.
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi wrote on social media platform X, 'In a world seeking climate solutions, India is showing the way. Achieving 50 per cent non-fossil fuel capacity five years ahead of the 2030 target is a proud moment for every Indian. PM Narendra Modi ji's leadership continues to drive Bharat's green transformation — paving the path towards a self-reliant and sustainable future.'
In another post, the minister stated, 'Historic Green Leap for India! India achieves 50 per cent non-fossil fuel capacity — 5 years ahead of its 2030 target. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a major climate commitment has been fulfilled. India's total installed power capacity now stands at 484.8 GW, with 242.8 GW coming from non-fossil fuel sources — a powerful testament to our green progress. This is not just a milestone — it's a giant stride towards a greener, cleaner Bharat by 2047.'
The ministry attributed this milestone to the implementation of various national programmes, including PM-KUSUM, PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, solar park schemes, the National Wind-Solar Hybrid Policy, and expanded investments in bioenergy. The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan has enabled the use of solar pumps and agrovoltaics, while rooftop solar initiatives have reached around one crore households.
India's installed electricity capacity by source as on June 30, 2025, is as follows: thermal – 242.04 GW (49.92 per cent), nuclear – 8.78 GW (1.81 per cent), renewable energy – 184.62 GW (38.08 per cent), and large hydro – 49.38 GW (10.19 per cent).
The total non-fossil fuel installed capacity of 242.78 GW now marginally exceeds the fossil-based capacity of 242.04 GW.
The government stated that this achievement further strengthens India's global position as one of the few G20 countries on track to meet or exceed its climate commitments.
India is targeting 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030 and aims to reach net-zero emissions by 2070.>

Indian Embassy in Thailand issues travel advisory, warns Indians against visiting these 7 places… Amid tensions between Thailand and Cambodia, the Indian Embassy in Thailand on Friday issued a travel advisory for Indians, requesting Indian nationals to avoid visiting certain areas near the Thailand-Cambodia border. The Indian embassy took to X and urged Indian nationals to avoid visiting seven provinces near the Thailand-Cambodia border. ''In view of the situation near Thailand-Cambodia border, all Indian travelers to Thailand are advised to check updates from Thai official sources, including TAT Newsroom. As per the Tourism Authority of Thailand, places mentioned in the following link are not recommended for traveling,' the embassy posted. What Are The 7 Places That Embassy Asked Not To Visit? The Tourism Department of Thailand (TAT) newsroom listed some key provinces which are on alert. In a post on X TAT said, 'Due to ongoing unrest along the Thai–Cambodian border, please note that several attractions in 7 provinces are now not recommended for visiting.' The 7 places where tourists are requested to avoid are: Ubon Ratchathani Surin Sisaket Buriram Sa Kaeo Chanthaburi Trat At least 14 Thai people were killed and 46 others sustained injuries in military clashes that took place on Thursday near the Thailand-Cambodia border, deputy spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Health said. However, Cambodia had not issued any notification on its casualties as of Thursday, Xinhua news agency reported. In Bangkok, Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin reported 14 fatalities, comprising 13 civilians and one soldier, as well as 46 injuries. He criticized the attacks on civilians and a hospital attributed to Cambodia, stating, 'We call on the Cambodian government to promptly cease these actions, which he labeled as war crimes, and to adhere to the principles of peaceful coexistence.' Notably, the skirmish took place after a landmine blast on Wednesday in which five Thai soldiers were injured. The incident led to the expulsion of ambassadors from both countries and resulting in significant diplomatic consequences.
