Springbok Women aim for winning send-off against Black Ferns XV

The Springboks Women's sole focus for the past month has all been on preparation for next month's Women's Rugby World Cup.
Match-day squads have been rotated to give everyone a fair run whilst several players have returned from injury, and positional switches have been a regular occurrence.
But with only Saturday's clash against the Black Ferns XV at Athlone Stadium remaining before the Boks leave for England, assistant coach Franzel September has changed the mindset with the emphasis placed on getting the 'W'.

'We need to get onto the plane knowing that we have all our ducks in a row and our plans tried and tested,' said September.
'To be fair, most of those are going really well and the progress in our last three matches is well documented, but what we did not get was a win. And that will be a very important boost for us.'
September and fellow assistant coach Laurian Johannes-Haupt put the Boks through their paces at UCT on Tuesday, reinforcing the need for a solid set piece, while prioritising efficient cleaning out at the breakdown.
The home team were excellent at both scrum time and in the line-outs in last Saturday's first clash, which allowed the famed Bok forwards to get the rolling maul rumbling along, resulting in powerful No Aseza Hele dotting down for two tries.

Johannes-Haupt was adamant that the Boks would continue 'playing to our strengths' in regards to utilising their powerful forward pack, but September would like to see a more varied approach on Saturday.
'It is good to know that our set piece functions well, but we want to also try alternatives,' he said.
'We all know that our pack is a force in the game, but on Saturday we also want to include our backs in the gameplan, especially our wings, who are proven finishers. We are not going away from our traditional strengths, but will rather look to expand our attacking options as well.

'After the two Canada Tests, the Black Ferns XV showed us good pictures and we are happy with our progress and preparation for the World Cup, but now we need to close this out with a win.'

'So, the players have one more opportunity, at home, to show why they deserve support and encouragement come England next month. The crowd last week was great and to have another opportunity to have a go at the Black Ferns and to play in front of true fans is an opportunity we cannot let slip.'

Carlos Spencer fears for All Blacks' unbeaten record at Eden Park as Springboks await
All Blacks flyhalf Carlos Spencer played touch rugby in Cape Town this week at a Real Madrid Foundation Educational Football Programme and Generation Schools charity event. It's been 31 years since the All Blacks last suffered defeat at their Eden Park fortress. The 23-20 loss to France on July 3, 1994, featured one of the most iconic tries in rugby history, known as 'the try from the end of the world.' That try, scored four minutes from the end of the Test, originated deep in France's own half. Legendary wing and captain Philippe Saint-André started a counterattack, running the ball from 80 metres out. The ball passed through nine pairs of hands in just 27 seconds before reaching fullback Jean-Luc Sadourny, who dotted down. It's still regarded as one of the most beautifully conceived tries in the history of the game. Since that iconic match against the French, the All Blacks have gone 50 matches without defeat at the Auckland venue, with 48 wins and two draws. Former maverick flyhalf Carlos Spencer played in many of those triumphant Tests for the All Blacks between 1994 and 2005, orchestrating some of the team's most remarkable attacking displays. However, Spencer fears that this record could be in jeopardy in 2025, when the world champion Springboks visit Eden Park for the Rugby Championship next month. The Springboks, who have beaten the All Blacks in their last four meetings, haven't played at Eden Park since 2013 and will be eager to make more history under Rassie Erasmus. The teams will meet at Eden Park on September 6, with the second match of that mini-tour to be played in Wellington a week later. While Eden Park isn't a hostile or intimidating venue, Spencer says the history that the All Blacks have built there is always in the back of visiting teams' minds. But he believes the all-conquering Boks could put that record to the test. 'I don't think it's intimidating — it's just the history of Eden Park, the All Blacks not losing a Test match there (since 1994). Teams think about that a lot,' Spencer said during a Generation Schools charity event in Cape Town. 'When you look at where South Africa is at the moment … if there's a team that can break that history, it's the Springboks. And it could happen this year. 'Fingers crossed it doesn't happen!' the former Auckland Blues playmaker added. The Springboks came from behind to beat the All Blacks twice last year at home, extending their winning streak over New Zealand to four matches, including their victory in the Rugby World Cup final in Paris. Cape Town City had been hoping for a last-minute lifeline that might see them reinstated in the Betway Premiership, but those hopes were crushed on Thursday night when the PSL Disciplinary Committee (DC) handed Gallants a R200,000 fine — half suspended — for violating registration rules. That means the MTN8 will go ahead without delay, and the top-flight calendar remains intact, even though the decision leaves many with more questions than answers. City had taken the matter to arbitration through the South African Football Association (SAFA), arguing that Gallants breached league regulations by fielding Mphambaniso in 26 of their 28 league matches last season despite not securing the correct clearance certificate. Springbok Women plan to cook up a storm against Black Ferns at home of the Gatsby

A Cape Town Gatsby is a no-frills sandwich, a French loaf stuffed with slap chips, meat, salads and sauce — designed for sharing between two or more people. On Saturday, the Springbok Women want to dish up something similar — not only to satisfy the appetite for perfection from the coaching staff, but also for their loyal supporters at Athlone Stadium, when they take on the Black Ferns XV in their second international friendly. The visitors won last weekend's clash 34–26, but Babalwa Latsha, who will again lead the Bok Women out, said too many chefs spoiled the broth for the home side on that occasion. 'This time, we're going to keep it simple and focus on getting the small things right first. We need to be physical, but we also need to be clever and productive when we have possession,' said Latsha, the most-capped prop in Springbok Women's history. Latsha added that there are many reasons why the team wants to leave the stadium on Saturday night content and happy. 'This is indeed our final chance before the World Cup later this month.
