Gov. Green seeking more money, amenities for New Aloha Stadium
Many believed that the project would not be able to feature such amenities with the taxpayer-funded budget of $350 million in general obligation funds for the new Aloha Stadium & associated costs and $50 million in general funds to be expended on stadium costs for operations, maintenance, and contract costs to developer Aloha Halawa District Partners. Governor Green says he's working on getting that done through the private sector.

'I'm meeting privately with some benefactors to see if they would help us fund additional resources,' Gov. Green said. 'I've had some very good conversations. And hopefully, in the next couple of months, I can announce that.'
The current Aloha Stadium has been condemned since December of 2020, with an anticipated completion date of the stadium in 2028 for the year's University of Hawaii football season. The project was originally scheduled for an opening in the fall of 2023, but it encountered numerous delays.
Governor Green says he's met with groups that have done entertainment districts with stadiums across the country and thinks that in partnership with The Aloha Halawa District Partners, they can bring a great facility.

'They know how to do this kind of thing, and I wanna bring positive events and entertainment to our next generation. So, fingers crossed we'll get something great,' said Gov. Green

Top OL Immanuel Iheanacho commits to Oregon
Oregon gained a massive addition to its 2026 recruiting class on Wednesday with the commitment of Immanuel Iheanacho, a 5-star prospect ranked as the class' No. 1 interior offensive lineman. The 247Sports composite also ranks Iheanacho as the No. 8 overall player in the nation. The 6-foot-6, 345 tackle plays at Georgetown Preparatory School in Baltimore. He made the announcement Wednesday on "The Pat McAfee Show" on ESPN. After he declared his choice, he unzipped his jacket to reveal an Oregon-green T-shirt that read, "The grass is damn green in Eugene." "Oregon just really felt right," he told McAfee, citing the ability to play early in his career as a deciding factor in his choice. He took official visits to Oregon, Penn State, Auburn and LSU in June. Also Thursday, four-star safety Devin Jackson committed to the Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning. From The First Academy in Orlando, Jackson is ranked as the No. 18 safety by the 247Sports composite. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Jackson also took official visits to LSU, Miami and Nebraska. He broke off his commitment to Florida in April. Oregon also added offensive lineman Tommy Tofi from Archbishop Riordan in San Francisco to its 2026 class on Wednesday. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

Medal for sailing coach's 'remarkable' achievement
A sailing coach from Guernsey has been presented with a British Empire Medal (BEM) by the island's lieutenant-governor for his services to youth sailing. Mike Chapple has nurtured the island's young sailing talent for 30 years, leading them to success at international competitions. His students include an Under-21 European bronze medallist, who was also selected for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic trials, and Island Games gold medallists. Gen Richard Cripwell presented the medal on behalf of King Charles III and said Mr Chapple's "dedication to young people is quite remarkable". "For me, his greatest achievement lies in the great number of young islanders who have furthered their confidence, fitness, competitive spirit and love of the sea. All thanks to him," he added. Mr Chapple was awarded the medal in the King's New Year's Honours List. More news stories for Guernsey Listen to the latest news for Guernsey It was presented by Gen Cripwell in a formal ceremony at Guernsey's Government House on Thursday evening, watched by members of Mr Chapple's family, along with friends and colleagues. "I was truly delighted to present him with the BEM today on behalf of His Majesty The King," Gen Cripwell said. Mr Chapple's involvement with sailing began as a father who wanted to ensure young people in Guernsey had the facilities and training to compete. He said: "I didn't go into the sport or teach with the hope I would get something, but recognition is very nice. My late wife would have been really proud." Mr Chapple said he "really enjoys sailing and the competitive side of sailing", adding it had been "an honour" to coach the island's young people. Other students of Mr Chapple have been selected by the Royal Yachting Association to train and compete in dinghy fleets with regional and national junior youth squads. He also launched Pirates in the Pond with the Guernsey Sailing Trust, a programme to teach five-year-olds and up sailing on the model yacht pond in St Peter Port. Mr Chapple is now retired, but he still funds off-island coaching trips from his own pocket, the Government House said. Follow BBC Guernsey on X and Facebook and Instagram.
