Monsoon session of MP Assembly begins amid light showers of rain and protest from Congress
The session started with customary welcome of Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar by the Leader of House Kailash Vijayvargiya, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Umang Singhar and other senior Ministers in the House.
On the first day, the House functioned only for a brief period and was adjourned till 11 a.m. on Tuesday, following paying homage to former leaders who passed away and offering condolences over tragic incidents which occurred in the country, including the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad (Gujarat).
An exhibition, highlighting 'Jal Ganga Samvardhan' and achievements of the Chief Minister Mohan Yadav-led BJP government was also set up at courtyard of the Assembly.
Chief Minister Yadav and along with Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated the exhibition.
On the other side, before entering the House, Congress MLAs led by LoP Singhar assembled near Mahatma Gandhi's statue at the Assembly premises and held a symbolic protest, accusing the BJP government of adopting "double standards" on the OBC reservation issue.
The Congress MLAs reached the Assembly holding banners and posters, accusing the BJP government of being "Girgit" (chameleon).
"The BJP government is not willing to implement 27 per cent reservation policy for OBCs, but the Congress will keep pressing its demand from every stage until the state government makes its stand clear," Singhar said.
Congress has made an elaborate plan to corner the BJP government on various key issues throughout the 12-day Monsoon session, as they raised the OBC reservation issue for the first day.
However, Congress and BJP here in Madhya Pradesh have been taking each other on the OBC reservation issue since long.
The Kamal Nath-led Congress government had increased reservation quota from 14 to 27 per cent in 2019.
The matter is being heard in the Supreme Court.
Interestingly, the Congress MLAs held a protest despite a directive was issued banning the protest and its use of banners and posters at the Assembly premises.
The directive, issued by the Assembly under Standing Order 94 (2), bans symbolic displays, including masks, props, placards, horns and even gestures in the Assembly, terming it 'disruptive'.
The move comes in the wake of the Opposition taking recourse to all kinds of symbolic protests such as wearing black masks symbolising government secrecy, displaying fake snakes to highlight unemployment problem and skeleton costumes to expose alleged corruption in the last Assembly session.

Addressing the annual Legal Conclave titled 'Constitutional Challenges – Perspectives & Pathways', Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday, launched a fierce attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) accusing it of enabling electoral fraud. He said the grand old party has 'conclusive evidence' of this fraud by the poll panel and he claimed that the institution has 'disappeared' and no longer functions independently. In his speech before over 1,500 delegates, including senior Congress leaders and legal professionals, LoP Gandhi stated that the Congress party has obtained 'conclusive evidence' of voter list manipulation and large-scale electoral malpractice. 'My allies would say to me, 'yes, we can see that cheating has happened. But we don't have proof.' And now, I say with absolutely no doubt that we have proof,' he declared. 'We have such proof that will show the whole country that the institution of the Election Commission, as we know it, does not exist anymore. That it has disappeared.' LoP Gandhi said the party conducted a six-month-long investigation into physical, booth-wise voter lists provided by the Election Commission. The documents, he alleged, were deliberately made unscannable and uncopyable. 'Why would the Election Commission protect the voter list like that? The paper versions they give cannot be scanned or copied. It took us six months of non-stop work to find this proof,' he said. The Congress leader said that his team compared six-and-a-half lakh voter photographs and names manually, uncovering that one-and-a- half lakh were fake. 'We went photograph by photograph, name by name, comparing six and a half lakh entries. And I'm proud of the work the Congress Party did,' he said. LoP Gandhi recounted his long-held suspicions about the integrity of elections since 2014, saying he was particularly shocked by the sudden defeat of the Congress and its allies in Maharashtra after a clear Lok Sabha victory. 'Three formidable parties suddenly just evaporated. That's when I thought, this just cannot be. And so we started seriously looking into electoral malpractice,' he stated. He added that despite early signs of irregularities in states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, it wasn't until recent months that his party gathered hard documentation, 'This is treason, nothing less than that. And we will find you,' he said, in a pointed warning to those allegedly involved in tampering with the democratic process. He called on the legal community stating that the constitutional framework they built was being dismantled. 'It was the legal minds, the legal fraternity that built this entire architecture. And it is being systematically unravelled on every front, some visible, others hidden,' he said. The allegations come amid heightened scrutiny over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Bihar and alleged voter list irregularities in polls across Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Punjab Vigilance conducts searches at real estate baron Ranjit Singh Gill's residence, hours after he joined BJP
Less than 12 hours after prominent Punjab real estate developer Ranjit Singh Gill was inducted into the BJP by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau conducted a search at his Sector 2 residence in Chandigarh on Saturday. The search was ongoing till this report was filed. No one was being allowed to enter or leave the premises. Gill is the founder of the Gillco Group, a real estate development company based in Mohali, Punjab, and was the 'halka in-charge' of Kharar for the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) till he quit the party in July. He was widely tipped to join Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), especially after the sitting Kharar MLA Anmol Gagan Maan announced her resignation and decision to quit politics on July 19. However, she took back her resignation the very next day. Gill is a real estate baron and agrarian entrepreneur who began his career in real estate in Ropar in 1990 before moving to Kharar, where he founded the Gillco Group. The company is known for developing luxury residential, commercial, entertainment, and educational projects, including the notable Gillco Valley township, one of the largest in Mohali, spread over nearly 200 acres. Beyond his business ventures, Gill has been politically active. He was a close confidant of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and served as the party's general secretary. He contested the Punjab Assembly elections from Kharar in 2017 and 2022 on an SAD ticket but was unsuccessful, finishing third in 2017 and losing to Mann in 2022. Gill's assets were reported to be worth Rs 74 crore in 2022, a significant increase from Rs 29 crore in 2017, as per his election affidavit. He faced an income tax raid in December 2022 at his Gillco Valley office and residences in Chandigarh, alongside associates, with cash recovered during the operation. Additionally, an FIR was registered against him in 2021 under the Disaster Management Act for gathering more than 10 people against the district commissioner's prohibitory orders in force.

Election system in India already dead: Rahul Gandhi reiterates rigged 2024 Lok Sabha polls, claims he has proof
Addressing the annual legal conclave titled 'Constitutional Challenges - Perspectives & Pathways', Gandhi said that he suspected over 80 Lok Sabha seats were rigged in the 2024 general elections. "The truth is that the election system in India is already dead. The Prime Minister of India holds office with a very slim majority. If 15 seats were rigged, we suspect that the number is over 70 to 80, he would not have been the Prime Minister of India. We are going to prove to you in the coming few days how a Lok Sabha election can be rigged and was rigged," Gandhi said while addressing the gathering in the national capital. Highlighting the six-month investigation carried out by Congress, he further alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) doesn't exist and has disappeared. According to documentation received from the EC, Gandhi said that the Congress has ascertained that nearly 1.5 lakh voters out of 6.5 lakh who voted in the Lok Sabha elections were "fake". "It makes it clear that the institution that defends the constitution has been obliterated and taken over. We have such proof that will show the whole country that the institution of the Election Commission does not exist. It has disappeared. It has taken us 6 months of non-stop work to find this proof. You will see with zero doubt how a Lok Sabha election is stolen. 6.5 lakh voters vote, and 1.5 lakh of those voters are fake," Gandhi said. The LoP rekindled his suspicions regarding the election system, saying that he had his doubts about "something being wrong" since 2014. Questioning the BJP's sweeping victories in the assembly elections of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi noted that they began investigating electoral malpractices following their defeat in Maharashtra, where one crore new voters appeared within months ahead of the assembly elections, ultimately voting for the BJP. "I've been speaking recently about the election system. I had always suspected something was wrong, starting from 2014. I had a suspicion in the Gujarat Assembly elections already. This ability to win sweeping victories. The Congress Party didn't get a single seat in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, or Gujarat, which surprised me. Whenever we spoke, people said, 'Where's the proof?' Then, something happened in Maharashtra," Gandhi said. "In the Lok Sabha, we won the election. And then four months later, we didn't just lose, we were obliterated. Three formidable parties suddenly just evaporated. We started to look seriously for electoral malpractice. We found that in Maharashtra, one crore new voters appeared between the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections. The bulk of those votes go to the BJP... Now, I say with absolutely no doubt that we have proof," the Congress leader said.
