'On wrong side again': BJP attacks Rahul Gandhi's 'obsession' with China military tech; cites previous comments

NEW DELHI: The
Bharatiya Janata Party
accused Congress leader
Rahul Gandhi
of batting for Chinese military hardware and said that Raebareli MP has a knack for ending up on the wrong side of the patriotic discourse.
BJP IT chief Amit Malviya on Monday claimed that in 2021, Rahul Gandhi questioned why Indian forces did not use Chinese-style surveillance drones and even praised the PLA's tactics during the Ladakh standoff.
"At an academic interaction in London (2023), he claimed China is winning the 'technology race' and urged India to learn from Chinese military innovation, including drone warfare," Malviya said in a post on X and added that Rahul Gandhi has a curious obsession with Chinese military tech.

"During a 2022 closed-door discussion with defence 'experts', Rahul reportedly pressed for India to 'explore options' similar to China's tactical drone deployment in border areas.
Whether it's undermining India's armed forces or amplifying enemy models, Rahul Gandhi has a knack for ending up on the wrong side of the patriotic discourse," he added.
Earlier on Monday, Malviya criticised Rahul Gandhi again for spreading fear and incorrect information about the stock market, highlighting that it has generated wealth for numerous retail investors through mutual funds and IPOs.
Following SEBI's action against hedge fund Jane Street for alleged index manipulation, Gandhi posted on X, "I clearly stated in 2024 -- the F&O market has become a playground for 'big players', and small investors' pockets are continuously being drained. Now, SEBI itself is admitting that Jane Street manipulated thousands of crores. Why did SEBI remain silent for so long?"
BJP IT department head countered that SEBI's ban on a global entity demonstrates robust regulatory measures to protect small investors.

He noted that the investigation itself disproves Gandhi's claims of SEBI's silence.
Malviya emphasised that the Modi government's reforms have strengthened SEBI's transparency and independence. He pointed out that major financial scandals occurred during Congress rule, citing Harshad Mehta, Ketan Parekh, and the UTI incident.
The BJP representative highlighted India's stock market growth, noting a USD 1 trillion increase in market capitalisation since March 2025.
He detailed the mutual fund industry's 576 per cent growth over a decade, with AUM rising from Rs 8 lakh crore to Rs 54 lakh crore.
Referring to Gandhi as "Balakbudhhi", Malviya criticised him for spreading market misinformation whilst maintaining his own investment portfolio. He cited increased SIP contributions and successful IPO launches, benefiting ordinary investors.
Malviya concluded by questioning Gandhi's understanding of market operations, suggesting that the Congress party's credibility was diminishing while India's markets continued to provide opportunities for millions of new investors under the Modi government's leadership.

Andhra's mango procurement sets model for other states

Tirupati/Chittoor: After chilli and tobacco farmers, mango growers are now in focus as YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy looks to raise the political heat in the state. A bumper mango yield this year has brought little joy to farmers, who are struggling with falling prices. Despite the state government's swift action, announcing subsidies and deploying officials to assist distressed farmers, the issue has turned political. Looking to capitalise on the unrest, Jagan will visit Bangarupalem market yard on July 9 to console mango farmers. In fact, the government claims that Andhra Pradesh's proactive, farmer-centric approach to supporting Totapuri mango growers is emerging as a model for other states. It has stepped in not just with aid, but with reassurance, encouraging farmers and helping them cope with the current crisis. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met with the farmers and pulp units' representatives in Kuppam during his recent visit and created confidence among them. He categorically told the pulp units that the government will provide whatever help they needed and even wrote to the centre to reduce the GST on pulp products. Tirupati and Chittoor collectors Dr S Venkateswar and Sumit Kumar have assured that procurement is in full swing and that the promised subsidy will be provided without any cap on quantity or time. Totapuri mango cultivation is a major agricultural activity in the state, with mango crops grown across 3.98 lakh hectares, yielding an estimated 49.85 lakh metric tonnes (MT) and a productivity rate of 12.5 MT per hectare. The erstwhile Chittoor district — now divided into Chittoor, Tirupati, and Annamayya — is a key production hub for Totapuri mangoes, with around 80,000 hectares under cultivation and nearly 76,700 farmers engaged in the activity. Tirupati district alone accounts for 14,582 hectares with a projected yield of 1.45 lakh MT this season. Following multiple review meetings held in May at both district and state levels, on June 6, the Chief Minister announced a subsidy of Rs 4 per kilogram for Totapuri mangoes. This brought the total procurement price to Rs 12 per kilogram, with Rs 8 to be paid by processors or traders. It is worth noting that while the neighbouring state of Karnataka limits its procurement to just one month, Andhra Pradesh has committed to continue the process until the last fruit is procured in July and August. Moreover, Karnataka has capped procurement at 4 MT per hectare, whereas Andhra Pradesh has imposed no such restrictions. A proposal has also been submitted to the Union minister for agriculture, seeking the release of Rs 130 crore under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) to further stabilise the market. The Collectors said that these steps are aimed at shielding farmers from global and national market fluctuations beyond their control. Procurement of Totapuri mangoes began on June 9. As of July 5, 67,980 MT of mangoes have been procured from 10,046 farmers in Tirupati district, while Chittoor district saw procurement of 2.23 lakh MT from 38,706 farmers. The Collectors said that every effort is being made to ensure that no farmer is left behind and that all produce is procured without any problem. Meanwhile, the police imposed restrictions on Jagan's visit, permitting only 500 people inside the market and 30 at the helipad due to space limitations. However, YSRCP leaders have claimed that around 10,000 party workers are expected to attend the event and have urged the police to make necessary arrangements accordingly.

60 women to get party ticket in next Assembly polls: Revanth

Hyderabad: The Congress party will lead by example, while earmarking around 60 tickets to women in the next Assembly elections. This categorical assurance came from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy after launching 'Vana Mahotsavam'2025 at the PJT Agriculture University here on Monday. He would personally take up this responsibility and ensure that the allotment goes beyond the quota for women. The Chief Minister indicated that approximately 50 seats would be reserved for women after delimitation of Assembly seats and passage of the women's reservation Bill. In addition, the party would pick women nominees in at least 10 more seats to ensure a larger women representation in the state Assembly. Reiterating that the government has set a target of making one crore woman millionaires, Revanth Reddy maintained that women SHGs would also be formed in urban areas in their bid to empower women across fields. Revanth Reddy listed out the women empowerment schemes formulated by his government, including the responsibility of setting up solar plants, focussing on government schools for girls and encouraging women to rent out around 1,000 buses to TGSRTC. Women's groups are now able to market their products in Hitec City, where some of the biggest MNCs and corporate houses are located. Meanwhile, urging people to join "Vana Mahotsavam" by planting at least two saplings in their homes, he called upon mothers to take the responsibility of planting saplings in the name of their children. The popular saying propounded by the older generations "the forest ecosystem and our living are integral" is eternally relevant, he pointed out. The Chief Minister said that Telangana will be transformed into a complete 'green' zone if everyone cultivates and nurtures trees like children.
