35 undocumented migrants held in Inanam, Luyang immigration sweep

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Immigration Department detained 35 undocumented migrants during a series of enforcement operations in Inanam and Luyang between Thursday and Friday. The operations, led by 38 enforcement officers from the Kota Kinabalu division, took place from 11am until 12.30am and targeted residential areas, business premises, and known gathering spots for foreign nationals. Acting on public tip-offs and prior surveillance, officers launched five operations - Ops Mahir, Ops Kutip, Ops Selera, Ops Belanja, and Ops Sapu - across multiple locations. Those detained include 17 Chinese nationals (16 men and one woman), six Pakistani men, and 12 Filipinos (10 men and two women), suspected of various immigration offences. Offences cited include staying without valid documents, overstaying visas, and breaching permit conditions under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and related regulations. All detainees have been transferred to the Kota Kinabalu Immigration Depot for documentation and further investigation. LAHAD DATU: A baby boy was found abandoned in front of a house in Kampung Burung, Jalan Bakawali, in the early hours of Friday. District police chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said the baby was discovered alive at about 3.06am and has since been taken to Lahad Datu Hospital for treatment, where he remains in stable condition. In a separate case, police arrested a 24-year-old local man on Thursday afternoon at Lorong Lahad Datu Square 1 for allegedly operating online gambling activities. A smartphone containing a gambling application was also seized, and the case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953. KYC calls for safer school spaces in Sabah

KYC chairman Steve Johnny Mositun ( pic ) said the council's thoughts are with the student, their family, and others affected, adding that healing and support are crucial at this time. The council also called on schools and communities to encourage open conversations where students feel safe to speak without fear. Man in Melaka charged with murdering girlfriend's baby

(File pic) PETALING JAYA: An assistant at a fishing equipment shop was charged in the Alor Gajah magistrates' court today with murdering his girlfriend's 19-month-old baby girl early this month. Bernama reported that Isyraf Hifhzan Abdullah, 20, nodded when the charge against him was read before magistrate Teo Shu Yee. Advertisement No plea was recorded as the case falls under the High Court's jurisdiction. Isyraf is accused of murdering the child on the third floor of a shop in Bandar Satelit Pulau Sebang, Alor Gajah, at around 9pm on July 6. If convicted, he faces the death penalty or 30 to 40 years' imprisonment and no less than 12 strokes of the rotan under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Deputy public prosecutor Fiqri Hakim Zamri did not offer bail, and requested a new date for the handover of the autopsy report. Isyraf was unrepresented. The court set Sept 23 for re-mention of the case and did not offer bail. It was reported on July 7 that a couple was suspected of abusing and killing a baby the night before. An inspection by a doctor at Tampin Hospital found bruises to the baby's stomach and back, and injury to the anus. The doctor lodged a police report, leading to the couple's arrest.
