Notre Dame great Skylar Diggins continues to make WNBA history with quickest triple-double
After recording the first triple-double in WNBA All-Star Game history on July 19, the Seattle Storm guard hit the record books again on Monday when she recorded a triple-double in just three quarters, as the Storm defeated the Connecticut Sun 101-85.
Diggins's two free throws at the end of the third quarter gave her 11 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in 22:51 of action, the lowest minute total for a triple-double in WNBA history. She also became just the second player in Storm history to record a triple-double, joining Temeka Johnson (2014).
The Fighting Irish legend is the fourth player in the league to record a triple-double this season, and it was the 46th in WNBA history.

At least 1 person who threw sex toy onto WNBA floor arrested
Justice has been served to at least one person who hurled a sex toy onto the court during a WNBA game. The WNBA said on Saturday that the fan who threw a neon green dildo onto the court during a game between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries on July 29 has been arrested. Anyone else caught throwing objects onto the court, the league said, will be ejected from the arena and face a minimum one-year ban. "The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans," the league said in a statement. "In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities." The incident occurred late in the fourth quarter on Tuesday at the Gateway Center Arena. There was a stoppage of play while an official kicked the errant dildo off the court, and it was removed by a police officer. On Friday, a copycat crime occurred when a fan threw another sex toy — which, from a distance, appeared to be the same make and model as the first — under the basket during Friday's game between the Valkyries and the Chicago Sky. "It's super disrespectful. I don't really get the point of it," Sky center Elizabeth Williams said after Friday's game. "It's really immature. Whoever is doing it needs to grow up." Other WNBA players have also chimed in on social media, including the Indiana Fever's Sophie Cunningham and New York Liberty forward Isabelle Harrison. Cunningham wrote on Friday: "Stop throwing dildos on the court… you're going to hurt one of us." Harrison added on X: "ARENA SECURITY?! Hello??! Please do better. It's not funny. never was funny. Throwing ANYTHING on the court is so dangerous."

DENVER (AP) The Colorado Rockies' win over Pittsburgh on Saturday was dampened with an elbow injury to closer Seth Halvorsen. The hard-throwing right-hander left after tossing five pitches in the ninth inning, and the initial outlook isn't encouraging. 'It don't look good,' interim manager Warren Schaeffer said. 'I'll let you know (Sunday).' Halvorsen, who leads the Rockies with 11 saves, was facing Pirates pinch hitter Spencer Horwitz to open the ninth and Colorado leading 8-4. He was ahead 0-2 in the count and then threw three straight balls, the last one at 99 mph. Immediately after that pitch he bent over and dangled his right arm, prompting Rockies head trainer Keith Duggar to jog to the mound to check on him. After a brief discussion Halvorsen left the game, with Dugan Darnell coming on to finish the 8-5 win. Schaeffer said Halvorsen wasn't experiencing problems entering Saturday's game. 'Not recently, but he was feeling something a while back, but he's been good for a while,' Schaeffer said. Halvorsen has been Colorado's main closer since the beginning of June and had converted nine of his last 10 opportunities, including his last six. Three of those have come after the All-Star break, which has helped the Rockies post a 7-6 record. Colorado, which is 30-80, is trying to avoid setting a modern era record for losses set by the 2024 Chicago White Sox, who were 41-121.
