Five-star 2026 linebacker chooses Alabama over Ohio State

USA Today6 hours ago

In what isn't much of a surprise, five-star 2026 linebacker Xavier Griffin announced his commitment to Alabama on Sunday.
James Laurinaitis and Ohio State had hopes early on that Griffin could join an already solid linebacker room because of the prospects over the last couple of cycles, but as of late, the trend has been towards Tuscaloosa despite Griffin decommitting from USC and immediately scheduling a visit to Coumbus. In the end, the pull to stay in the south for the Georgia product proved to be too much.
Griffin is ranked as the No. 27 overall prospect and the 2nd-best linebacker in the 2026 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Had the news went Ohio State's way on Sunday it would have been a major shocker as the program looks to put the finishing touches on its 2026 recruiting class.
For now, Laurinaitis and company will soldier on with the fantastic group he has at the spot.

Michigan football lands elite DL over Alabama

The post Michigan football lands elite DL over Alabama appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Michigan football team picked up an impressive addition to its 2026 recruiting class on Wednesday as elite four-star defensive lineman Titan Davis announced his commitment to the Wolverines. Davis had narrowed his list of college options down to two as he was down to Michigan and Alabama, and like we have seen in each of the last two seasons on the gridiron, the Wolverines took down the Crimson Tide. This is a huge recruiting win for head coach Sherrone Moore. Advertisement 'BREAKING: Four-Star DL Titan Davis has Committed to Michigan, he tells me for @on3recruits,' Hayes Fawcett said in a post. 'The 6'5 270 DL from Saint Louis, MO chose the Wolverines over Alabama.' Titan Davis had a short message to share after committing to the Michigan football team: 'I'm home GO Blue 〽️!' He said. Michigan started 2024 with a win over Alabama in the Rose Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal on New Year's Day. The stakes weren't as high on New Year's Eve in the ReliaQuest Bowl, but the Wolverines beat the Crimson Tide to end 2024 as well. Now, it's the offseason, so the Michigan football team will have to settle for recruiting wins over Alabama. Advertisement Davis is a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He is the #101 player in the 2026 class, the #13 DL and the #2 player in the state of Missouri. Davis currently attends DeSmet High School in St. Louis. Missouri is an SEC state, but Davis is going to play for Michigan in the Big Ten. 'Ascending defensive end with a prototypical frame that could fit into an odd or even front at the next level,' Davis' scouting report reads. 'Began his prep career playing quarterback before flipping to the other side of the ball and finding instant success in the trenches. Flashes the ability to separate and bypass base blocks with his lateral agility. Not the most destructive defender at this stage, but can find a flat back and shoot his hands to gain extension. Solid get-off frequently gives him an advantage in passing situations.' All signs point to Davis going on to have a very successful career at Michigan and beyond. 'Quick to unleash a bull-rush, but can also rip his way around the corner and has the stride length to finish,' his scouting report continues. 'Enters senior year believed to be north of 6-foot-4, 265 pounds with adequate length in the arms. Must improve pad level and learn how to bring it every single snap, but appears to be rounding into form as he nearly doubled his production as a junior for Missouri's 6A champs. Projects as a potential multi-year contributor and possible impact player for a College Football Playoff contender. Should offer plenty of alignment flex and could very well end up finding a home on the inside depending on how the body matures.' Advertisement After the commitment from Titan Davis, the Michigan football team now holds the #28 recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports. The school in 29th? Alabama. When all is said and done, the Wolverines will likely finish with one of the top classes in the country. They are just getting started. Alabama beats Ohio State, Ole Miss for 4-star TE

The post Alabama beats Ohio State, Ole Miss for 4-star TE appeared first on ClutchPoints. Alabama football rose as one of the more aggressive teams on the Thursday recruiting trail. The Crimson Tide snatched five-star running back Ezavier 'E.J.' Crowell. But then boosted the offense further by beating Ohio State and Ole Miss for a four-star tight end. Advertisement Mack Sutter chose Alabama less than two hours after the Crowell commitment. The Dunlap, Illinois native turns down the national champion Buckeyes and Rebels for 'Bama. Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals also added in-state competitor Illinois was in the final running before Sutter chose the Tide. Sutter fired off this message to Tuscaloosa via Fawcett. 'T-town let's do ittt. ROLL TIDE!' Sutter told the recruiting insider. Sutter heads to Tuscaloosa as the nation's sixth-ranked TE by On3/Rivals. He's also the state of Illinois' No. 2 overall talent by the national recruiting outlet. And he adds to an impressive college football recruiting day for head coach Kalen DeBoer and his coaching staff. Alabama ending June recruiting in aggressive fashion Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Crowell helped silence some DeBoer doubters. The head coach faced harsh criticism for his ability to grab five-stars post Nick Saban. Advertisement DeBoer and his coaching staff earned not one, but two major recruiting wins on the evening. While Sutter is No. 2 in Illinois for On3/Rivals, he's the best prospect in The Land of Lincoln by 247Sports. The 6-foot-6 Sutter even drew comparisons to one TE who played in the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs. Except Sutter got compared to Jared Wylie, not Travis Kelce. Hudson Standish of 247Sports made that critique of the new 'Bama commit. 'Dynamic athlete hovering around 6-foot-5, 230 pounds who can create effortless separation before the catch and climb the ladder at the catch point,' Standish wrote in his evaluation. Advertisement Sutter became sold about DeBoer for this reason: The head coach is a Midwest native like him. Sutter loved that aspect about his future head coach in a conversation with Brett Greenberg of Bama 247. The Tide are asserting themselves more on the trail to close out June. Alabama flipped former four-star Illinois commit Javari Barnett on June 23. Ex-Rutgers safety Rihyael Kelley also turned to Alabama on the same day. Alabama is climbing nationally too for the 2026 recruiting rankings. Now standing at No. 20 overall after spending time between 40 to 50. Alabama's Kalen DeBoer flips 4-star RB from Illinois

The post Alabama's Kalen DeBoer flips 4-star RB from Illinois appeared first on ClutchPoints. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer is under the microscope following an overall disappointing first season in Tuscaloosa. Despite outlasting Georgia in a wild game on Saban Field at the end of September, the Crimson Tide suffered a blowout loss at Oklahoma and missed out on the 12-team College Football Playoff. The two-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year aims to get the program back in prestigious standing, and his best route to doing so is via the recruiting trail. Advertisement DeBoer is on the attack, exemplifying the proactive style that helped him turn Washington into a national champion runner-up. He and Alabama just officially flipped 2026 recruit Javari Barnett, per On3's Hayes Fawcett. The 6-foot, 215-pound running back committed to Illinois in April. 'Not just doing it but imma do it big,' Barnett told Fawcett regarding his big decision. The Tampa Bay, Florida native will be staying close to home and plans to solidify himself as a valuable component of Bama's offense. Barnett is a three-star recruit on 247 Sports' rankings and had recently held the same standing on On3, but he is now a four-star prospect as of this report. Fighting Illini head coach Bret Bielema recently called out SEC teams for the number of conference games they play, and this latest defection may only stoke his fury toward the league. DeBoer is not going to apologize, though. He swooped in and grabbed four-star quarterback Jett Thomalla from Iowa State last week and is now raiding Illinois' cupboard. The Crimson Tide's path to success historically includes an impactful RB room, which Javari Barnett hopes to contribute to starting next year. Kalen DeBoer will get some leeway for a transitional 2024 season, but he is expected to formulate a clear vision in 2025 and beyond. It seems to be taking shape as we speak. Of course, the only thing that truly matters is how everything fits on the field. The summer grind is officially underway.
