2026 Lexus RZ Updates Revealed, Everything You Need to Know

Miami Herald06-06-2025

Three years after introducing its first electric vehicle, Lexus has upgraded the RZ for the 2026 model year, making this sleek SUV a more worthy competitor. It will now come as the 221-horsepower RZ 350e with front-wheel drive, the 308-horsepower RZ 450e with all-wheel drive, and the new, range-topping 402-horsepower RZ 550e F Sport also with all-wheel drive. The three models reportedly have 0-60 mph times of 7.2 seconds, 4.9 seconds, and 4.2 seconds, respectively.
Range has also increased, with Lexus quoting 300 miles for the RZ 350e FWD, 260 miles for the RZ 450e AWD with 18-inch tires, and 225 miles on the new RZ 550e F SPORT AWD with 20-inch tires. The RZ now sports a North American Charging System charging port on the passenger side for charging at Tesla Superchargers. Filling the battery pack from 10% to 80% requires about 30 minutes using a DC fast charger.
If more power is at the top of your checklist, the RZ 550e F Sport is for you, albeit at the expense of range. Interestingly, Lexus has fitted its trim-topping model with M Mode, a virtual gearbox that simulates manual gear shifting via paddle shifters. If this sounds familiar, that's because Ferrari and Hyundai already have it. The RZ 550e F Sport also wears the appropriate go-fast attire, with a black emblem, rear spoiler, front and rear bumper moldings, front grille, and 20-inch wheels. Its cabin proves equally sweet, lined in black Ultrasuede with blue stitching and with a panoramic glass roof, aluminum pedals and footrests, and an F Sport steering wheel.
While the new Lexus RZ's upgrades help keep it competitive, the automaker's plan to build it in Japan means that it won't be eligible for a federal tax credit, should that survive the onslaught by Congress. Then again, Lexus hasn't released pricing yet, promising to do so closer to the 2026 Lexus RZ's on-sale date. Currently, the 2025 RZ starts at $43,795 and tops out at $58,605 with lower range figures, but given the specter of tariffs, those prices will likely increase. So far, at least, it seems like the 2026 Lexus RZ's longer range and higher performance should be well worth the wait, along with what is likely to be a higher price.

Longtime Ferrari Boss Might Be Working for McLaren

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo is one of the most important people in Ferrari's history. He first worked for the Formula 1 team in the 1970s and joined the company again in 1991, becoming Enzo Ferrari's successor. In his tenure, which lasted until 2014, Montezemolo oversaw a transformation in Ferrari's road-car business and its most dominant period in F1. Now, it seems he's working for Ferrari's closest rival—McLaren. A Reddit user noticed earlier today that Montezemolo was just listed as a director for McLaren Group Holdings Limited on Companies House, the British government agency that maintains a registry for companies in the country. We've reached out to McLaren Automotive for comment. McLaren Group Holdings Limited controls McLaren Automotive, the road-car division of the famous British brand. Abu Dhabi investment firm CYVN Holdings purchased McLaren Automotive last December and merged it with Forseven, a UK EV startup it also owns. Last month, McLaren Automotive announced Forseven CEO Nick Collins would take over as chief executive for the supercar company. Collins was formerly head of R&D for Jaguar Land Rover. As of right now, it seems like Montezemolo won't have anything to do with McLaren's F1 team, which is still controlled by the Bahrain-owned McLaren Group. Under Montezemolo's tenure, Ferrari's road car business went from malaise to the envy of the automotive industry. The cars that came out during his 13 years at the company are among the best it's ever made—F355, 550, F50, Enzo, 599, 458, F12berlinetta, LaFerrari, and more. He also hugely boosted sales with the California while pushing more limited-run and one-off models too. CYVN wants to turn around McLaren Automotive's business. With Montezemolo on board, it has someone that did the same with Ferrari with panache. Hamilton given formal warning as difficult Ferrari start continues

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton was 10th in second practice at the Austrian Grand Prix (Andrej ISAKOVIC) Lewis Hamilton's difficult start to life at Ferrari continued on Friday as he was handed a warning by the race stewards after winding up 10th in second practice for the Austrian Grand Prix. The seven-time champion was alleged to have impeded his successor at Mercedes, Italian teenage rookie Kimi Antonelli, at turn four of the fast and technical Red Bull Ring circuit in the Styrian Alps. Advertisement Hamilton apologised immediately and explained that he had not seen Antonelli approaching behind him as he descended over the crest of a hill on a slow lap and drifted into the racing line. Hamilton raised his hand to signal his apology to Antonelli as he passed him. After speaking to Hamilton, the stewards decided to give the Briton a formal warning -- the usual sanction for such a misdemeanour in practice. It is the third time this season that Hamilton has been warned. "The driver of car 44 (Hamilton), although constantly checking his mirrors after being informed by the team about car 12 (Antonelli) closing in, slowly moved on to the racing line on the approach to turn four and thereby unnecessarily impeded car 12 which had to take evasive action," said the stewards in a statement. Advertisement Hamilton was given a three-place grid drop at the Monaco Grand Prix where he impeded four-time champion Max Verstappen in qualifying when his race engineer Riccardo Adami wrongly informed him that the Dutchman was not on a flying lap. Hamilton struggled with gearbox problems on Friday as he evaluated a new floor design on his Ferrari car. His team-mate Charles Leclerc was fifth, six-tenths off the pace of McLaren's Lando Norris. str/nf

Lando Norris puts Canada crash behind him to set practice pace in Austria

Lando Norris bounced back from his Canada collision with McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri to finish fastest in practice for the Austrian Grand Prix. Norris' world championship bid was dealt a significant blow in Montreal a fortnight ago when he ran into the back of Piastri and retired from the race. Advertisement The collision cast him 22 points adrift of Piastri but Norris claimed an early advantage at Spielberg's Red Bull Ring by topping the timesheets. Norris finished 0.157 seconds clear of Piastri in a McLaren one-two, with four-time world champion Max Verstappen third. The Dutchman finished three tenths off the pace. Aston Martin's Lance Stroll ended the day in fourth, one place clear of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. George Russell, who landed his first win of the season in Montreal, slipped to sixth having set the pace in the opening running of the weekend earlier on Friday. For Lewis Hamilton, it was another difficult day at the wheel of his Ferrari. A gearbox problem restricted Hamilton's programme in the first session and then he was only 10th quickest in the day's concluding running. Advertisement 'For some reason I have just got no pace,' said Hamilton on the radio, with his best lap nearly a second off the leading time and three tenths adrift of Leclerc in the other Ferrari. Hamilton was also the subject of an investigation after impeding Kimi Antonelli – the Italian teenager who replaced him at Mercedes – through turn four. Lewis Hamilton finished 10th in his Ferrari in second practice (Denes Erdos/AP) Antonelli had to take evasive action at high speed as Hamilton wandered back on to the racing line. Hamilton immediately apologised to Antonelli – drawing alongside the 18-year-old's Mercedes before offering an apologetic hand – but was summoned to see the stewards to explain his actions. Advertisement Hamilton escaped with a warning. Earlier, Norris sat out the opening session with Alex Dunne becoming the first Irishman since Ralph Firman in 2003 to take part in an Formula One event. Dunne, 19, who is a McLaren development driver and leads the Formula Two standings, finished an impressive fourth and within a tenth of Piastri. 'A little boy's dream came true,' he said over the radio. 'This is the best day of my life.'
