Brit teen jailed following holiday romance is pictured for first time
Marcus Fakana has been seen for the first time since returning to London following his return from a hellhole prison in Dubai.
The teen, of Tottenham, north London, has been pictured for the first time following his near year-long ordeal in the Middle East. The 19-year-old was sentenced to one year behind bars after forming a relationship with a holiday flame, who was aged 17 at the time. The apprentice bricklayer has arrived back safely in the UK after he received a royal pardon from Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Advocate group Detained in Dubai, who have been supporting his family throughout the case, said he is "currently recovering". Chief executive, Radha Stirling, said in a statement: 'His case has attracted significant public attention due to concerns about the criminalisation of tourists and disproportionate sentencing.
We believe this case highlights the urgent need for expedited legal processes for foreign nationals and safeguards against unnecessary custodial sentences.'
Marcus was with his parents in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from the end of August when a 'holiday romance blossomed' with another Londoner, who has since turned 18, the campaign group previously said. After returning to the UK and seeing pictures and chats, the girl's mother reported the relationship to Dubai police, who then arrested Marcus at his hotel, it is alleged.
In Dubai, if an adult has a sexual relationship with a person under 18, they can be prosecuted for having a sexual relationship with a minor.
Marcus had earlier told Detained in Dubai: "We had a wonderful time together. We really liked each other but she was secretive with her family because they were strict.
"My parents knew about our relationship but she couldn't tell hers. She had to meet me without telling them it was to see a boy.
"When she left, I couldn't wait to see her again when I got home. Then suddenly, police knocked on our hotel door. My mother is a cleaner and my dad works in a warehouse. They saved up for this one-off holiday and they have now used all of their savings."
His parents previously said in a GoFundMe: "What was meant to be a happy time has turned into a nightmare for him, our family, and our friends.
"This has happened as a result of someone trying to misuse UAE law against him. He is being charged with a crime that could lead to imprisonment for up to 20 years."

A nine-year-old girl drowned to death in a busy pool despite being surrounded by adults and other children. Ava Rose McCourt was found 'lying on the bottom' of the deep end of the pool at the Clinton Mobile Home Resort in Tiffin, Ohio, by another child, after people noticed she was missing, according to police. A woman pulled Ava out of the water and a bystander performed CPR. Ava was rushed to Mercy Tiffin Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Ava had received swimming lessons just days before the tragic incident on June 28. 'She was the most loving wonderful and thoughtful loving little angel we have ever met,' states a GoFundMe page for her. Christina Bryant, the partner and soon-to-be wife of Ava's father, said the girl was using a noodle to float in the water. Bryant said she turned away from Ava for just a short moment. Witnesses told police that Ava seemed to vanish within a minute and that they did not notice any splashing or signs of drowning. Ava's dad, Jesse McCourt, was fishing at a trailer park nearby at the time that she drowned. Ava was set to begin fourth grade and was a good student who loved to dance and sing. She was eagerly awaiting her 10th birthday to be able to make her first video on YouTube. 'She was so full of life,' her aunt, Jaimee Sergent, told 13 Action News. 'She never met a stranger in her whole life. She has so much love for everybody.' Ava was visiting the pool with her father's parther. More Trending 'Our family is completely devastated by her sudden loss,' states the GoFundMe page. 'My brother and Christina and Kinsey weren't prepared for such a loss so there wasn't any life insurance.' The GoFundMe page had raised more than $1,400 as of Tuesday evening. Boy dies after ‘his mom left him in hot car for hours to get cosmetic procedure'
A one-year-old boy died after his mother allegedly left him trapped in a hot car for hours as she got lip filler. Maya Hernandez, 20, is accused of leaving her son, Amillio Gutierrez, and his two-year-old brother fastened to their car seats in her Toyota Corolla hybrid outside the Always Beautiful Med Spa in Bakersfield, California. Amillio was foaming at the mouth, convulsing and unresponsive, and had a body temperature of 107 degrees Fahrenheit when Hernandez returned to her car around 4.30pm on June 29. He was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead just before 6pm. Amillio's older brother survived. 'When his mom left him and his 2-year-old brother alone in her car, Amillio was so special; he always had a smile no matter what,' wrote the boys' grandmother, Katie Martinez, in a GoFundMe page for his celebration of life. 'He is loved by so many, our lives will not be the same. 'His brother will forever be without his best friend.' Hernandez told police officers that she left the air conditioning and car on while going in for the cosmetic procedure, according to arrest documents obtained by KFSN. But investigators said her car was warm and that it had a feature to automatically turn the engine off after an hour. The two boys are believed to have been trapped inside without air conditioning for at least an hour-and-a-half. 'They were strapped in their car seats. They couldn't even get up to save themselves,' their grandmother, Katie Martinez, told the TV station. 'She literally locked them in their car seats and shut their doors.' Martinez was also shocked at Hernandez's actions. 'She wasn't like that. She was a really loving mom,' the grandma said. 'Those boys loved her. They really loved her and they relied on her.' A nurse at the spa reportedly told officers that Hernandez asked if she could bring her kids with her as she got the procedure done, and did not say that they were in the car when she arrived. The lip filler appointment apparently only took 15 to 20 minutes. More Trending Hernandez has since been charged with involuntary manslaughter and child cruelty, and is being held at on a more than $1million bail. She is slated to appear for a preliminary hearing in court on Friday. A vigil for Amillio was held at a park on Saturday. The GoFundMe page to bring his body home to Porterville and hold a celebration of life for him had raised $174 as of Tuesday evening. 'He just started walking on Thursday, and on Sunday, he gained his angel wings. I will never be the same without him,' Martinez wrote. 'Amillio Gutierrez, my grandson, I will be with you again in heaven. Until we meet again, you are missed so much.' Please help us bring him home to his brother and to our family. Ava Rose McCourt, 9, was praised as a child who "loved life and enjoyed singing, laughing and giving hugs" following her tragic death at a pool she was visiting with her dad's partner A young girl drowned in a busy pool full of adults and children after her dad's partner looked away for "a moment", with another child making the horrific discovery of her 'lying on the bottom' of the pool. Ava Rose McCourt, 9, disappeared from sight as she swam in a pool at the Clinton Mobile Home Resort in Tiffin, Ohio, on June 28. Her dad's partner, and soon-to-be wife, Christina Bryant told police the girl could not swim and had been using a pool noodle to float. Ms Bryant told officers she turned away for a brief moment and that when she looked back, Ava was missing. She started to frantically search before another child found her at the "bottom of the pool in the deep end" resulting in a bystander giving her CPR until emergency services arrived, according to a police report. Ava's dad, Jesse McCourt, had been fishing a the trailer park's lake close to the pool at the time of her disappearance. Ava was rushed to Mercy Tiffin Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the ER. An autopsy will be carried out by the Lucas County Coroner's Office. Witnesses at the pool said Ava vanished under the water without anyone noticing and had reportedly not splashed or made sounds of distress. One witness claimed it had happened as fast as a person snapping their fingers, MailOnline reported. Little Ava Rose had been taught how to swim in the days leading up to her death, although she was not able to swim by herself. Officers said the investigation into the death was "over." In a post thanking people who had donated to their GoFundMe page, Ms Bryan wrote: "Please respect all parties involved. We will have no and I mean no issues over these kind of things. I don't understand how this is our reality right now. We are broken... My fiancé, myself and Ava's bio mom are gonna have some really hard days." Ava's previous teachers at Krout Elementary School in Tiffin shared their condolences. Lori Harp said: "Ava was such a sweet girl with the biggest heart. She loved giving me hugs at the end of the day and loved telling me stories when I helped with her class in 2nd grade." Melissa Cimo, her second grade teacher, said: "I absolutely loved being Ava's 2nd grade teacher and she brought so much joy to me." Little Ava was buried on July 3 following a funeral at Green Springs, Ohio. Her obituary read: "Ava loved life and enjoyed singing, dancing, laughing and giving hugs. She was a very kind girl and loved to spend time with her family and shopping."
