BJP legislators demand minister Shivaraj Tangadagi's resignation

Time of India6 days ago
Koppal/Ballari: Doddanagouda Patil, the BJP MLA representing Kushtagi, accused backward classes welfare minister Shivaraj Tangadagi of demanding a commission in exchange for releasing the pending grant to the Taileshwar Ganiga Mahasamsthan Mutt and called for action against him.
In a press release, he claimed that during the previous BJP administration, a grant of Rs 3.5 crore was promised for the mutt's development projects, of which Rs 2.5 crore was disbursed. However, the subsequent Congress govt failed to release the remaining funds. Consequently, the swami sought judicial intervention, which resulted in a court order for the release of the funds. Despite this ruling, minister Tangadagi purportedly requested a commission of 20% to 25% for the disbursement of the pending grant.
"The demand for a commission on funds meant for the mutt indicates that corruption is pervasive at all levels within the current administration. An inquiry should be initiated into the commission's request related to grant releases in the backward classes welfare department, and minister Tangadagi ought to resign," Doddanagouda asserted.
In a statement, legislative council member YM Sathish and former MLA G Somashekara Reddy said that minister Tangadagi, who allegedly solicited a bribe from the mutt, should immediately step down from his ministerial role and that the overdue funds should be released without delay.

"Corruption within the state govt seems rampant. The CM is personally implicated in the Muda scam. The Valmiki Corporation scam is currently being investigated by the CBI. This govt has created a troubling environment where even mutts have to receive grants through bribes," they said.
In response to these allegations, Shivaraj Tangadagi stated that he is open to having a discussion with Purnananda Swami of the Taileshwar Ganiga Mahasamsthan Mutt.
During Basavaraj Bommai's time as the CM, he allocated Rs 3.5 crore for the mutt. Bommai sanctioned the funding on Oct 18, 2022, but later cut it down by Rs 1 crore, ultimately providing Rs 2.5 crore. After our administration took office, a total of Rs 7 crore was allocated to the mutt, which comprises the earlier Rs 5 crore and the current Rs 2 crore. "Nevertheless, swami, who has concealed this information, has begun legal action.
We also intend to submit evidence to the court," he stated.
