BJP legislators demand minister Shivaraj Tangadagi's resignation
Koppal/Ballari: Doddanagouda Patil, the BJP MLA representing Kushtagi, accused backward classes welfare minister Shivaraj Tangadagi of demanding a commission in exchange for releasing the pending grant to the Taileshwar Ganiga Mahasamsthan Mutt and called for action against him. In a press release, he claimed that during the previous BJP administration, a grant of Rs 3.5 crore was promised for the mutt's development projects, of which Rs 2.5 crore was disbursed. However, the subsequent Congress govt failed to release the remaining funds. Consequently, the swami sought judicial intervention, which resulted in a court order for the release of the funds. Despite this ruling, minister Tangadagi purportedly requested a commission of 20% to 25% for the disbursement of the pending grant. "The demand for a commission on funds meant for the mutt indicates that corruption is pervasive at all levels within the current administration. An inquiry should be initiated into the commission's request related to grant releases in the backward classes welfare department, and minister Tangadagi ought to resign," Doddanagouda asserted. In a statement, legislative council member YM Sathish and former MLA G Somashekara Reddy said that minister Tangadagi, who allegedly solicited a bribe from the mutt, should immediately step down from his ministerial role and that the overdue funds should be released without delay. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Lợi ích khi giao dịch CFD Bitcoin IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "Corruption within the state govt seems rampant. The CM is personally implicated in the Muda scam. The Valmiki Corporation scam is currently being investigated by the CBI. This govt has created a troubling environment where even mutts have to receive grants through bribes," they said. In response to these allegations, Shivaraj Tangadagi stated that he is open to having a discussion with Purnananda Swami of the Taileshwar Ganiga Mahasamsthan Mutt. During Basavaraj Bommai's time as the CM, he allocated Rs 3.5 crore for the mutt. Bommai sanctioned the funding on Oct 18, 2022, but later cut it down by Rs 1 crore, ultimately providing Rs 2.5 crore. After our administration took office, a total of Rs 7 crore was allocated to the mutt, which comprises the earlier Rs 5 crore and the current Rs 2 crore. "Nevertheless, swami, who has concealed this information, has begun legal action. We also intend to submit evidence to the court," he stated.

Nothing wrong if RSS is banned: Tangadagi
Koppal: Kannada & culture minister Shivaraj Tangadagi said that RSS was banned thrice in the past, and there is nothing wrong if it is banned again. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Tangadagi said that Vallabh Bhai Patel banned the RSS. "Persons like BJP MLC Ravikumar, who often insult women, are trained by RSS. As it often involves in communal clashes, it can be banned. Because of it, harmony is disturbed in coastal Karnataka. It is washing the brains of only middle-class, backward community youths. No wards of BJP functionaries like Amit Shah, R Ashoka, Arvind Bellad are full-time workers. Youths of poor and middle-class families are made full-time workers," he added. Expressing respect for Poornandapoori Swamiji of Vishwa Ganiga Trust, Tangadagi insisted that if evidence is provided for the allegations against him, he will shun politics. "Actions were taken for fund release as per the finance department's instructions. We plan to file a defamation case against the Swamiji for the baseless allegations," he added. He noted that the Ganiga community's seer expects the immediate release of funds upon request, which he believes is not appropriate as there are rules and regulations to follow. Regarding the topic of changing the chief minister, he mentioned that the high command has instructed not to speak publicly about it, and he is abiding by that. "We are unaware of why KN Rajanna spoke about the Sept revolution. We are also unaware of what Rayareddi said about the guarantee scheme. We will not comment on senior leaders," he asserted. He added that promoting or demoting Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar is up to the state's people, and it is not possible just because the BJP says so. "An event for beneficiaries is scheduled in Koppal on Aug 4, with CM and DCM expected to attend. Various projects for the Koppal district assembly constituencies will be launched on that day," he informed.

Seer accuses Minister of demanding commission for releasing temple grant
Seer accuses Minister of demanding commission for releasing temple grant a serious allegation that could embarrass the state government, Sri Poornanandapuri Swamiji of the Shrikhetra Taileshwara Ganiga Mahasansthana Mutt in Nelamangala has accused Karnataka minister Shivaraj Tangadagi of demanding a 25 percent commission to release a government grant sanctioned for temple renovation. According to Swamiji, a grant of Rs 3.5 crore has already been approved for the mutt's renovation works. However, the seer alleged that Minister Tangadagi asked for a commission to release the funds. The seer has now written a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urging him to remove Shivaraj Tangadagi from the cabinet for his alleged corrupt practices. In his letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Swamiji expressed gratitude to Siddaramaiah for generously sanctioning grants for the development of various backward community institutions across Karnataka. However, he accused the minister of misusing the system by flouting norms and manipulating the distribution of grants without any transparency. 'The files related to grants, which are legally approved by you (CM), the finance department, and the secretary of the backward classes welfare department, are being withheld by the minister. He decides who should receive the grants at his own discretion and distributes them through his close associates, enabling corruption. There are also widespread reports that his relatives are operating this corruption network,' Swamiji wrote in the letter. The seer further said that lack of transparency and selective favoritism in grant allocation itself is clear evidence of corruption. 'We were forced to approach the High Court to get justice for the injustice done to our institution,' he added. Highlighting his long association with the Congress party, Poornanandapuri Swamiji reminded Siddaramaiah that he had served as an MLA and as state president of the backward communities' organization back in 1992, along with holding various posts for 35 years. 'Out of loyalty to the party, we did not want to embarrass the government and had already written to the minister on January 20, 2025, informing him about our intention to approach the court if the injustice continued,' the letter stated. Swamiji claimed that he had already brought the issue of alleged irregularities within the backward classes welfare department to the Chief Minister's notice. He requested that the CM take immediate action by removing Shivaraj Tangadagi from the cabinet to prevent further corruption. Issuing a stern warning in his letter, Swamiji said, 'If no action is taken within the next 10 days, we will be forced to initiate legal proceedings under the anti-corruption law against the minister. This is a matter of public trust, and we hope you will take suitable action to protect the dignity of the government.' The allegations have come at a time when the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government is facing increased pressure to maintain clean governance. Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi has yet to issue a statement in response to these serious allegations.

Karnataka Govt Proposes Law to Tackle Fake News, Misinformation
New Delhi: In a move to tackle the rapidly growing menace of fake news, the Karnataka government has proposed a new law with penalties of up to seven years' imprisonment and a maximum fine of Rs 10 lakh. The draft, presented to the cabinet a week ago, has been in development for two years. This was one of the Congress party's first initiatives when it came to power two years ago. The proposed law grants the state government the power to 'ensure a complete prohibition on fake news on social media platforms.' The draft defines fake news as 'misquotation or false and/or inaccurate reporting of one's statement; editing audio or video that results in the distortion of facts and/or context; or purely fabricated content.' According to a report by Deccan Herald, the draft law defines misinformation as 'knowingly or recklessly making a false or inaccurate statement of fact, whether wholly or in part, in the context in which it appears, excluding opinions, religious or philosophical sermons, satire, comedy, parody, or any other form of artistic expression, provided a reasonable person of ordinary prudence would not interpret such communications as statements of fact.' For spreading misinformation that disrupts public order or electoral processes, the bill, as reported by Hindustan Times, proposes a minimum sentence of two years, extendable to five years, along with monetary penalties. Aiding or abetting the dissemination of such content could also lead to two years' imprisonment, according to the report. The draft law establishes a six-member Regulatory Authority, headed by the minister for Kannada and culture, a role currently held by Shivaraj Tangadagi. Special courts will also be set up to expedite trials under the proposed law. As a rationale for the law, the state government states that the problem of fake news 'cannot be solved.' The draft notes, 'Today, social media is the biggest force in the world, but caution is also necessary in its use.' As reported by Deccan Herald, the law proposes to prohibit abusive and obscene content, including anti-feminist material. It also seeks to ban the publication of content 'amounting to disrespect of Sanatan symbols and beliefs' on social media.
