Caitlin Clark, Sabrina Ionescu and Allisha Gray headline WNBA All-Star 3-point contest
She'll be joined by
contest record holder
Sabrina Ionescu, who last entered the contest in 2023 and hit 25 of her 27 shots in the final round, scoring 37 points. It was the most shots made in a 3-point contest in either the WNBA or NBA.
The Liberty's star guard wanted to make sure she was completely healthy before officially entering the contest. She said she'll be trying to break her own mark.
Clark's management team said earlier this year when she turned down competing in some fashion at NBA All-Star weekend that the young star wanted her first 3-point contest to be in Indianapolis at the WNBA weekend.
Allisha Gray, who
made her own history
last season, winning the 3-point and Skills Challenge, will try and defend her title in both competitions. She beat Jonquel Jones 22-21 to win the 3-point shootout. Gray beat Sophie Cunningham by 2 seconds to win the skills competition.
The Atlanta Dream star received $110,000 from Aflac as part of a partnership with the WNBPA. The 3-point contest winner this year will get an extra $5,000 from Aflac. Gray also got $2,575 from the league for each of her two victories.
Other participants in the 3-point contest are Washington rookie Sonia Citron and Los Angeles' Kelsey Plum.
The other players competing in the skills challenge will be New York's Natasha Cloud, Seattle's Skylar Diggins and Erica Wheeler, and Minnesota's Courtney Williams.

Taylor Fritz beats Canadian Gabriel Diallo in Toronto in 3rd round of National Bank Open
TORONTO (AP) — Second-seeded Taylor Fritz of the United States beat 6-foot-8 Canadian Gabriel Diallo 6-4, 6-2 on Friday night in the third round of the National Bank Open. 'I thought the crowd was (very) nice for me playing the last player in the tournament from Canada,' Fritz said. 'I thought it was going to be a little bit more hostile. But I guess everyone is just so nice. I've dealt with a lot worse.' Fritz set up a fourth-round match in the hard-court event with 19th-seeded Jiri Lehecka of Czechia. Lehecka beat 15th-seeded Arthur Fils of France 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. The 27-year-old Fritz is No. 4 in the world. He has 10 career ATP Tour titles, winning this year on grass at Eastbourne and Stuttgart. In the late match, fourth-seeded Ben Shelton outlasted fellow American Brandon Nakashima 6-7 (8), 6-2, 7-6 (5). Shelton will face 13th-seeded Flavio Cobolli of Italy. In the afternoon, sixth-seeded Andrey Rublev of Russia beat Lorenzo Sonego of Italy 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. 'In the second and third sets, I was able to play more aggressive, fewer mistakes,' Rublev said. 'Let's see what's happening next, I'm super excited and motivated.' Seventh-seeded Frances Tiafoe of the United States edged Aleksandar Vukic of Australia 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to set up a match with Washington winner Alex de Minaur of Australia. De Minaur advanced when countryman Christopher O'Connell withdrew. Top-ranked Jannik Sinner — the 2023 winner — and No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz skipped the hard-court event that ends Thursday. No. 5 Jack Draper and No. 6 Novak Djokovic also are absent. ___ AP tennis:

Dodgers 2-way star Shohei Ohtani to start on mound Wednesday. Team goes to 6-man rotation
BOSTON (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani is expected to start on the mound Wednesday as he continues his buildup from elbow surgery that kept him from pitching all last season. Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday before the Dodgers faced the Boston Red Sox in the finale of their three-game series that the plan is for Ohtani to work four innings at Cincinnati, with an off day to recover before hitting in a game. With the Japanese superstar working his way back along with left-hander Blake Snell, who pitched 4 2/3 innings on Saturday in his fourth rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City, the Dodgers will be using a six-man rotation. They currently have Clayton Kershaw, Tyler Glasnow, Dustin May, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Emmet Sheehan in the rotation. 'Shohei is going to go on Wednesday and then he'll probably pitch the following Wednesday, so that probably lends itself to the six-man,' Roberts said. In Ohtani's last start, he allowed one run and four hits in three innings against Minnesota on July 22. He struck out three and walked one, throwing 46 pitches, 30 for strikes. Roberts feels like this season is sort of a rehab year in the big leagues and doesn't foresee the team extending Ohtani's workload deep into games for a while. 'I think this whole year on the pitching side is sort of rehab, maintenance,' he said. 'We're not going to have the reins off where we're going to say: 'Hey you can go 110 pitches.' I don't see that happening for quite some time. I think that staying at four (innings) for a bit, then build up to five and we'll see where we can go from there.' Also Sunday, the club activated right-handed reliever Blake Treinen from the injured list and recalled left-hander Justin Wrobleski. The 37-year-old Treinen was a big part of last season's run to the World Series title, picking up two victories in the Series against the New York Yankees. He has been sidelined since April 19 because of forearm tightness. 'I think the only thing I'm going to be mindful of is the up-down,' Roberts said on Treinen's usage. 'To come into an inning of leverage, I have no problem.' Wrobleski, 25, is with the Dodgers for the fourth time this season. He's a starter now, but Roberts said he'll work out of the bullpen. 'Just trying to get a quality arm, get some length, potentially using him in two-inning stints, three-inning stints is going to be helpful for our 'pen," Roberts said. 'The goal is to get the best pitchers on your roster in whatever role.' To make room on the roster, LA optioned right-handers Will Klein and Edgardo Henriquez. ___ AP MLB: Ken Powtak, The Associated Press

Country Music Legend Calls Meeting Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever Team 'Absolute Dream' originally appeared on Parade. Country legend Wynonna Judd, 61, made a surprise visit to the Indiana Fever before Sunday's (July 27) game against the Chicago Sky — and she was as excited to meet the Fever players as they were to meet her. "The squad got to meet Grammy award-winner Wynonna Judd before today's game in Chicago ❤️🎶," captioned the Fever's Instagram post on a series of photos and video of Judd posing with stars Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham and Lexie Hull. In the video, Cunningham gives Judd a huge hug and exclaims, "You are such a star, you are awesome! How are you? Oh, don't cry!" Then Judd can be heard saying, "No, I'm serious. I don't get excited about a lot, but this is my absolute dream." She also got to hug and say hello to head coach Stephanie White, who can be heard saying, "Great to meet you!"On Judd's Instagram stories, she reposted the Fever's photos and wrote, "The quartet you didn't know you needed," on the photo of her alongside Clark, Cunningham and Hull. In the comments, fans can't believe how Judd is dwarfed by the WNBA players. "I thought Wynonna's as tall as them. She looks tiny!" wrote one fan, to which another fan replied, " I thought the same thing. Players look like giants next to her. I googled it… Wynonna is 5'5'." "Smooth voice and splash sisters! Love to see it," wrote a third fan. A fourth fan, "SWEET!!!! My favorite Redhead with my favorite ballers in the world!!!!! Love this!!!!!" "This is SO AWESOME!! Four amazing, talented women right there! Go Fever and have a blast Wy !!," wrote a fifth fan. The Fever beat the Sky 93-78 on the back of Kelsey Mitchell's 35 points and six assists; Mitchell has been stepping way up in Clark's absence as Clark battles injuries this season.
