Essien is No2 at the Danish club and gave his old Stamford Bridge pal a glowing reference on Nygren.
Rodgers said: 'Benjamin is a guy who has really grown and developed.
'He was a really talented youngster and made a move that didn't quite work out, but has done well at Nordsjaelland.
'I was in contact with a friend of mine there who was a top midfielder - Michael Essien.
'He works at the club and spoke really highly of Benjamin.'
Celtic also completed a deal for Fulham kid Callum Osmand this week and Rodgers has high hopes for the 19-year-old.
He said: 'He wants to be part of a first-team set up where he can grow and develop.
'This is what our environment is built for. He's an exciting young talent and was coveted by a number of teams.'
Celtic had earlier brought Kieran Tierney and Ross Doohan back to the club and believes having that Scottish core is crucial.
He said: 'The players who have come through the system here are so important.
Celtic fans would never let their club die says Hoops hero Peter Grant
'They understand the values of Celtic and, for me, they should always be at the heart of the club.
'That's why it was important to bring back guys like Kieran and Ross, because they play such a huge part in keeping the culture that's created here.
'For Kieran, I'm absolutely delighted. We're getting a top player back.
'Sometimes top players like that might come later on in their career, but we're getting Kieran at 27 years of age.
'I was with him during the summer so I know first-hand how excited he is to be here.
'And it's great for Ross to be back. He was here during my first spell and he left to go and gain experience.
'He's an international goalkeeper now. He answered the call and got his cap, which is absolutely brilliant.
'I know where his heart is and I know that in bringing him back here, he'll make a real good contribution in that goalkeeper department for us.'

Celtic start their pre-season games against Queen's Park on Friday and Rodgers is already thinking of the August Champions League play-off.
He told Celtic TV: 'In the early stages, it's really about the physical preparation and getting the players prepared mentally.
'We saw the benefits of a really good pre-season last year.
'Pre-season is always a tense and difficult period when you're one of the big clubs because there are no pre-season friendlies.
"I always call them tests. When you're a big club they're never friendlies.
'Then you add in to that the qualification for the Champions League.
'That means that you're trying to get to the end point that little bit quicker, because it's something that's very important to us.
'So we'll take that last qualification round when it comes and hopefully we'll be in a really good place by that time.'

Dortmund's stance on loanee Chukwuemeka revealed

Loanee Carney Chukwuemeka missed Dortmund's 2-1 win over Monterrey on Tuesday night through illness but has Chelsea's permission to extend his loan until the end of the Club World Cup. The Blues will allow the midfielder to remain with the German giants, who next face Real Madrid in New Jersey's MetLife Stadium on Saturday. However, Chukwuemeka, who moved for £20m from Aston Villa in 2022, remains surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea prefer to sell, rather than loan out the 21-year-old in the longer term. Dortmund would happily keep Chukwuemeka beyond the Club World Cup but are reluctant to pay Chelsea's £40m asking price. They will wait to see if Chelsea's demand changes or whether it might be possible to re-sign Chukwuemeka on loan later in the likely means Chukwuemeka will return to Chelsea for at least a few weeks following this Club World Cup campaign.

Final defeat will 'fuel fire' for more Celtic success

Captain Callum McGregor will use May's painful Scottish Cup final defeat to "fuel the fire" for more success with former Scotland midfielder endured what he described as "the worst moment I've ever had in football" after his penalty was saved by Aberdeen keeper Dimitar Mitov in a surprise shootout defeat to the than five weeks on from his Hampden agony, McGregor is revitalised, refocused and "hungry" to lead Celtic towards more silverware."It was a tough moment, there's no shying away from that," the 32-year-old said. I'm feeling really good – Sophie Ingle relishing Euros dream after knee injury

Former national team captain Ingle suffered ACL damage in a Chelsea pre-season friendly in September and has not played since. Ingle has taken a full part at Wales training in Switzerland, but it remains to be seen whether the 141-times capped midfielder will make the starting line-up for their Euros opener against the Netherlands on Saturday. Speaking before the Lucerne clash, Ingle told Sky Sports: 'I've probably got a stronger knee than before, which is the crazy thing. 'That's already hard to process in your mind. It's definitely mentally (tougher) than physically. 'Can I do it? Can I get back to the level I was at?' 'You go through all those stages, but I'm very laid back and had full confidence in my medical team. That fully helps and it's paid off now I'm here. 'A lot of the girls have said to me over the last few days they can't believe I've been out nine months and look basically the same as before. 'I'm just pushing every single day and, whatever role I'm needed, I'll be there for the team. I'm feeling really good, which is the main thing.' Ingle revealed how a Christmas card from the Football Association provided extra motivation for her to make Rhian Wilkinson's 23-strong squad in Switzerland. She said: 'The FAW sent out a Christmas card of our photo when we qualified, the whole team, and there were a few words inside. 'So I put it up on my kitchen shelf. Every time I was in the kitchen that evening I'd look up, and that was just always my focus to get back for this tournament. Hoher Kasten 🚡📍 — Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 (@Cymru) July 2, 2025 'Once the girls qualified in December, that was then my aim, to do everything I could to be in with a chance of getting selected. 'Then, once I got selected it was such a special feeling that all that hard work and those lonely days on your own in the gym kind of paid off.' Ingle is currently without a club after her second spell at Chelsea ended in May following seven trophy-filled years in west London. A post shared by Sophie Ingle OBE (@ingle08) But the 33-year-old remains a standard-bearer for Welsh football, leading the national team 83 times between 2015 and 2024. Ingle said: 'I think us qualifying for the Euros helped my recovery, to have an aim in place. 'I always had the mentality that if I don't make it, at least I've tried and I've done everything that I can. 'They always say on average, it's nine to 12 months (to recover from an ACL injury), but it all depends on your body, how your surgery went, what actually was wrong with your knee.'
