Poorly discarded cigarette butts ignite house fire, causing over $1M damage
A heavy fire and thick smoke shoot from a home on Lynden Street in Collingwood, Ont., on Sun., July 20, 2025. Collingwood's fire chief says cigarette butts tossed in a garbage can caused $1 million in damage to a home and displaced several people. Emergency crews responded to the call around 10 p.m. Sunday night on Lynden Street and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames shooting from the house. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the blaze. Due to the damage estimate, the Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified. It's unclear if an investigator will be sent to inspect the situation. There were no pets in the home and no injuries were reported. The fire chief says six people have been displaced as a result of the fire. Investigation underway after vehicle crashes into Arby's in Bridgewater, N.S.
An investigation is underway after a vehicle crashed into an Arby's restaurant in Bridgewater, N.S., early Sunday morning. Bridgewater Police Service says it responded to calls after a loud crash was heard in the community's southwest end. The police service and EHS learned a vehicle had left the Dufferin Street roadway and crashed into the Arby's building, causing heavy damage to the vehicle and restaurant. 'Two adult women from Shelburne County were located at the scene and subsequently transported to South Shore Regional Hospital for treatment of their injuries,' the news release said. 13-year-old drowns at beach near St. Marys, Ont.

(Source: Wildwood Conservation Area / Facebook) A young teen drowned at the Wildwood Conservation Area, east of St. Marys, Ont., on Sunday. She has only been identified as a 13-year-old from Hamilton. The Stratford Police Service and the St. Marys Fire Department were called to the beach, around 7 p.m., for a report of a missing person. They said the girl was found in the water approximately one hour later. Despite efforts to revive her, the teen passed away. Police said the 13-year-old had been visiting the conservation area with her family. 'The Stratford Police Service would like to thank everyone present last evening for assisting with the search and recovery of the victim,' they wrote in a media release. 'We would like to express our condolences to the family, friends and loved ones who have been impacted by this tragedy.'
