Chandrababu defends Banakacharla project, says will not cause harm to anyone

In a recent statement, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu reiterated that the Banakacharla project will not cause harm to anyone, emphasising that an average of 2,000 TMC of water has flowed into the sea from the Godavari River every year over the past century. "If we can utilise even 200 TMC of this wasted water, it would significantly benefit the Telugu people and help resolve water scarcity issues," he stated. Naidu asserted his support for projects on the Godavari in Telangana, clarifying that he has never opposed such initiatives.
The CM highlighted that his government had allocated ₹3,950 crore to the Handri Niva project in Rayalaseema, along with providing a 90% subsidy for micro irrigation. He outlined the administration's commitment to prioritising profitable crops and promoting commercial farming to increase farmers' incomes, even acknowledging the challenges posed by fluctuating market rates for these crops. "We are moving forward despite numerous difficulties.
Our government is dedicated to supporting farmers in every possible way," he declared. Naidu further contrasted his government's inclusive approach with that of the previous administration, which he claimed favoured only select beneficiaries, stating, "We salute the mother, no matter how many children we have."

CM steps in to protect interests of mango farmers

Kuppam (Chittoor district): Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has called on pulp industries and processing units to immediately step up and procure mangoes from farmers. At a high-level meeting held at his residence in Kuppam on Thursday, Naidu assured farmers that the state government was committed to protecting their interests and would also provide necessary assistance to industries to keep the supply chain moving. The meeting brought together mango farmers, industry representatives, and government officials from the erstwhile Chittoor district. Officials informed the Chief Minister that while 1.12 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes have already been procured, an additional 1.7 lakh metric tonnes are expected to be purchased. Farmers expressed frustration that pulp industries were holding back purchases, citing limited orders, lack of storage, and delays of up to four days just to unload produce. Responding to these concerns, Naidu urged industries to start immediate procurement to prevent losses at the farm level. He said the government would stand by them through policy-level support and infrastructure facilitation. Industry leaders flagged other pressing issues such as high import duties in European markets, while countries like Pakistan and those in Africa enjoyed tariff-free access. They urged the CM to take up the matter with the Centre and also pushed for a reduction in GST on mango pulp from 12 per cent to 5 per cent. Naidu said the government had already written to the Centre on GST and assured them he would pursue it again. Touching on the economics of mango farming, Naidu noted that yields currently range from 6 to 12 tonnes per acre. He stressed the need to ensure fair pricing for farmers while making processing units economically viable. He instructed industries to offer Rs 8 per kg without delay and to streamline the procurement process. The possibility of introducing mango juice in the midday meal scheme for schoolchildren was also raised. Naidu responded that eggs were already being provided as a nutritional supplement but agreed to examine the idea further. Calling for a shift to natural farming, the Chief Minister encouraged mango farmers to minimise chemical use and embrace sustainable practices. 'Global markets demand quality. Our produce must meet international standards through testing, tracing, and certification,' he said. Naidu also warned farmers against being misled by those attempting to politicise the situation. 'There are people trying to provoke you. Don't fall for their games. The government is solidly behind you,' he said. In an earlier media interaction, he criticised previous governments for failing to offer tangible support mango farmers. 'This year's crop is excellent, but the market is weak. That's why we must focus on food processing and value addition,' he added. Collector Sumit Kumar, horticulture commissioner Srinivasulu Reddy, Puthalapattu MLA K Murali Mohan, and MLC K Srikanth were among those present.

CM Naidu trashes allegations on Banakacherla project

Kuppam (Chittoor dist): Adverting to objections raised by Telangana about Andhra Pradesh's plan for the Polavaram-Banakacherla project to lift water from the Godavari river, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has dismissed all the allegations surrounding the interlinking plan, calling them 'baseless and politically motivated'. Speaking to the media in Kuppam on Thursday, Naidu made it clear that the project would not harm anyone. He amplified that misinformation was being deliberately spread to mislead the public. Recalling his efforts in the past, when he was the chief minister of the undivided Andhra Pradesh, Naidu pointed out that he was the one who brought the Devadula Lift Irrigation Project to Telangana. 'I inspected key locations like the Srisailam project, SLBC, and the Madhava Reddy Canal before initiating the project over the Godavari River,' he said. He also mentioned that the Pushkara and Tatipudi Lift Irrigation Schemes were introduced in Andhra Pradesh under his leadership to ensure better water management. Taking a swipe at the Yellampalli project announced during YS Rajasekhara Reddy's tenure, Naidu said it never saw the light of day and was marred by a major scam. He stressed that both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh had a rightful share in the Godavari's waters and could benefit greatly if just a fraction, about 200 TMC out of the 2,000 TMC that flows into the sea every year, was used efficiently. 'Sharing water resources fairly can uplift the entire Telugu community,' he observed. Naidu reiterated that he had never opposed, nor would he oppose any irrigation initiative taken up by Telangana on the Godavari River. Speaking on social development, the Chief Minister criticised the previous government for neglecting the poor. 'We are introducing model welfare programmes, but those who looted public money without helping a single poor person are now accusing us of playing politics,' he said. The Chief Minister highlighted the P4 initiative (People, Public, Private Partnership), as an example of how communities had been coming together to support development. He shared the story of an NRI family that had benefited from past welfare schemes and had now returned to help the people of Thimmaraju Palli village through the P4 model. 'That's the kind of inspiration we want to spread. Some people may not like our progress, but we're moving forward with the people's support,' Naidu said. Naidu also spoke about the 'First Step in Good Governance' campaign, aimed at improving public service delivery. He said that party leaders and workers would go door-to-door for a month to understand people's problems and strengthen outreach. Criticising the previous administration, Naidu said land records were manipulated under their watch, leading to widespread disputes. 'Eight out of ten public grievances are about land issues. Now blockchain technology is being used to fix that. Andhra Pradesh once had the best land record system, which was unfortunately destroyed,' he observed.

Both govt & YSRCP take up door-to-door campaign

Visakhapatnam: After a year, the alliance and YSRCP decided to cross swords. Even as their agendas vary, they intend to check people's pulse, launching campaigns. As the NDA government turns a year old, the alliance flagged off a door-to-door drive under the banner 'suparipalana lo tholi adugu' (first step towards good governance). In connection with it, the ministers plus MLAs swung into action to reach out to constituents in their respective segments, highlight schemes offered, future plans in store along with the initiatives taken so far. On the contrary, the YSRCP is all set to initiate its campaign to flag the government lapses in the past one year. This includes non-implementation of Super Six assurances, absence of development and promises unmet. Recalling Chandrababu Naidu's manifesto, the YSRCP is gearing up to roll out the 'Babu surety-mosam (cheating) guarantee' campaign. Through the drive, the YSRCP leaders intend to take up the government's lapses at district, village and mandal levels. As part of its 'suparipalana lo tholi adugu', the alliance leaders are reaching out to households with a different goal altogether. Along with highlighting the commitments made so far, the aim of the drive is to make people understand how the state is witnessing signs of growth despite five years of YSRCP's misrule. In addition to building awareness about the welfare schemes, the alliance is also keen on educating people on Central government schemes, industries that are going to be established in the state, investments made so far and jobs created for the youth. Agreeing that the Opposition has a right to bring forth the lapses of the government, TDP state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao, says, 'But there will not be any use even if the YSRCP takes up any false campaign as people have seen what the state government has done in the past one year. They will make the right decision based on the facts and will not get carried away with false propaganda,' the MLA shares with The Hans India. Already, the NDA government implemented schemes such as increased pensions, free LPG cylinders, revived Anna canteens and 'thalliki vandhanam'. Soon, initiatives like 'annadata sukhibhava' and free bus travel for women will also be launched. While the YSRCP plans to launch a door-to-door campaign under the banner 'Babu surety-mosam guarantee', the BJP-TDP-JSP is focusing on its three-month-long drive wherein each party will focus on an entire month for campaigning. With both the alliance and YSRCP deciding to reach out to people through two different agendas, it has to be seen whether people would emerge as more decisive or confused.
