Ons Jabeur, battling injuries and unhappy on the court, taking a hiatus from women's tennis
Ons Jabeur is taking a hiatus from the women's tennis tour, with the three-time major runner-up saying Thursday she wants to rediscover the joy of simply living. Once ranked No. 2 on the WTA Tour, Jabeur has battled injuries in recent years and has fallen to her current No. 71. The 30-year-old from Tunisia retired because of difficulty breathing during her first-round match at Wimbledon, where she reached the final in 2022 and 2023, and won't be playing as the hard-court swing begins. 'For the past two years, I've been pushing myself so hard, fighting through injuries and facing many other challenges,' Jabeur wrote on Instagram. 'But deep down, I haven't felt truly happy on the court for some time now. Tennis is such a beautiful sport. But right now, I feel it's time to take a step back and finally put myself first: to breathe, to heal, and to rediscover the joy of simply living.' Jabeur also was the US Open runner-up in 2022, becoming the first woman since Serena Williams in 2019 to reach the final at Wimbledon and Flushing Meadows in the same year. She fell short of becoming the first African or Arab woman to win a Grand Slam title in the professional era, but she climbed to No. 2 in the WTA rankings the next week. She is 15-15 this year after her 2024 season was cut short by a shoulder injury as she played just once after Wimbledon. Jabeur, popular with other players and fans, thanked the fans in her post. 'Even while I'm away from the court, I'll continue to stay close and connected in different ways and share this journey with you all,' she wrote.

Where We Are Going Today: Kermal – Lebanese lounge in Jeddah
Located on Al-Kayyal Street in Jeddah, Kermal welcomes you with soft yellow lighting, a cozy interior and vibrant artwork. This Lebanese lounge blends classic flavors with comfort, creating a modern take on a traditional Beirut home. The menu features lots of familiar favorites and a few standouts. We started with the creamy chicken mushroom soup, which was rich and satisfying, served with toast and a squeeze of lemon. The rocaa salad with beetroot was fresh and tangy and made for a simple and pleasant starter. Other appetizers include the shrimp fatteh, which had a crispy, creamy tang thanks to the house salsa and the grape leaves and fried potato cubes with yogurt, which were also very tasty. For mains, the Kermal mixed grill, including juicy lamb chops, tender kebabs and well-seasoned shish tawook served with grilled vegetables, tahini and garlic sauce, was a highlight. Priced at SR135 ($36) it is a generous platter for sharing. The cherry kebab offers a sweet-savory twist and is worth trying, while the sea bass sayadieh was served with fragrant fish rice topped with fried onions and nuts. For dessert, the kashta booza made a refreshing finish — creamy and fragrant with a pistachio crunch. Drinks like the pink mojito and raspberry cooler were sweet and enjoyable. Kermal also has a breakfast menu and lunch deals for options throughout the day. Visit Instagram @ for more details.

Saudi Television's Enduring Media Impact Across Six Decades
Saudi Television has played a pivotal role in the Kingdom's media journey, marking its first official broadcast on July 7, 1965, during the reign of King Faisal bin Abdulaziz. As the first official national channel, it established a direct link between the government and its citizens, as well as an influential voice on the global stage. From the outset, Saudi Television embodied the leadership's commitment to mass communication, promoting cultural values, strengthening national identity, and supporting national development. Early broadcasts began in Riyadh and Jeddah in black and white, focusing on religious and cultural content. Notably, Quran recitations were a central feature, reflecting the spiritual and cultural foundation of Saudi media. In 1974, the introduction of color television marked a technological breakthrough, significantly enhancing the viewing experience and expanding reach across the Arab world. Transformation Through Innovation, Specialization The 1990s ushered in a new era for Saudi Television, driven by advancements in production technology and professional broadcasting standards. This period saw the emergence of more dynamic directing and news production methods, aligned with the Kingdom's growing ambitions for its media landscape. Entering the 2000s, Saudi Television underwent significant specialization and digital growth. Moreover, the Saudi Broadcasting Authority introduced a variety of specialized channels to meet evolving viewer preferences. Among these were: Al-Ekhbariya Channel (2004), delivering local and global news; The Holy Quran Channel (2009), offering continuous live broadcasts from the Grand Mosque; The Sunnah Channel, which features live programming from the Prophet's Mosque in Medina. These additions diversified content while maintaining a focus on religious, cultural, and national programming. Saudi Television also remained the official broadcaster of national events and speeches, reinforcing its central role in shaping public discourse. Embracing Digital Evolution, Vision 2030 With the launch of SBC Channel in 2018, Saudi Television expanded its reach to younger audiences through contemporary entertainment. In 2020, Thikrayat Channel was introduced to revive and celebrate classic Saudi artistic and cultural productions, bringing them to a new generation. As part of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 strategy, the media sector has been prioritized for development and modernization. Saudi Television has embraced digital transformation by offering content on mobile apps and live streaming platforms, including Al-Oula and Saudi On Demand (SOD) in English. Additionally, these platforms ensure accessibility and broader engagement. Moreover, local media talent is being cultivated across production, presentation, and editorial roles, aligning with national goals to localize the media industry and boost its creative capacity. From its beginnings in 1965 to its current position as a multi-platform media network, Saudi Television has remained a trusted voice for the Kingdom. Blending tradition with innovation.
