Telecom tower theft disrupts services in Raub, three reports filed
Raub district police chief Supt Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman confirmed the cases are being probed under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft. 'The missing components disrupted services as they facilitate data transmission,' he said. Authorities urged the public to share any information by contacting the Raub district police operations room.
Meanwhile, State Communications and Multimedia Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal stated that CelcomDigi is restoring services by replacing damaged equipment. 'As of 5.30 pm, repairs were completed in Pekan Dong, Kampung Gesing, and several other locations,' he said in a Facebook update.
The vandalism at a CelcomDigi tower in Dong initially disrupted connectivity in surrounding areas. MCMC investigations revealed the tower acts as a hub linking multiple transmission sites.

A HOUSEWIFE was sentenced to eight years in prison by the Kuala Selangor Sessions Court today after pleading guilty to abusing her adopted daughter using a mortar and pestle, and slashing the victim's body with a knife. Judge Nurul Mardhiah Mohammed Redza meted out the sentence to the 54-year-old woman and ordered her to serve her prison term from the date of her arrest on June 28. The court also imposed a two-year good behaviour bond and ordered her to perform 40 hours of community service within four months after completing her prison sentence. The accused, who was the guardian of a 13-year-old girl, was charged with abusing the victim by hitting her with a piece of wood, a mortar and pestle, as well as slashing her body with a knife, causing physical injuries. The offence was committed at a house in Taman Bendahara, Kuala Selangor, in June. She was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both, upon conviction. According to the facts of the case, the accused, who had been caring for the victim since infancy, had physically assaulted and abused the girl, resulting in broken teeth and multiple injuries on her body. Investigations and a medical examination confirmed that the injuries sustained were consistent with physical abuse. Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Nor Hakimi Mohamad Rosedin urged the court to impose a proportionate and deterrent sentence as a lesson to both the accused and the wider community, citing the public interest and the alarming frequency of child abuse cases. 'The accused has committed a serious offence under Section 52B of the Penal Code. I respectfully request the court to review the photographs of the victim's injuries, which clearly show that the accused failed in her responsibilities as the victim's guardian,' he said. 'The accused's actions have left both physical and psychological scars on her adopted child, who is now suffering from trauma,' he added. Meanwhile, lawyer Khairul Hazwan Rashid Mohd Redduan from the National Legal Aid Foundation, who represented the accused, appealed for the prison sentence to commence from the date of her arrest. High Court upholds decision to discharge and acquit Kuching man of gang robbery

KUCHING (July 4): The High Court here yesterday upheld the Sessions Court's decision to discharge and acquit a 35-year-old man who had been charged with gang robbery involving an Indonesian worker at a construction site. Judge Leonard David Shim made the ruling after dismissing the prosecution's appeal in the case involving Alex Ujai. 'After perusing the Record of Appeal, the Petition of Appeal, the Grounds of Decision, and the submissions by the learned deputy public prosecutor and counsel for both parties, the court finds that there is no appealable error in the decision of the learned Sessions Court Judge, nor any compelling reason to disturb the findings of fact. 'Accordingly, the decision of the Sessions Court is affirmed, and the appeal is dismissed,' he said. Deputy public prosecutor Filanny Siji appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyers Arthur Liang Dawat and Elissa Effie. On June 20, 2024 the Sessions Court here had ordered the accused to be discharged and acquitted after the prosecution failed to establish prima facie. The appellant subsequently filed an appeal in the High Court on June 25, 2024. According to the charge sheet, the offence was allegedly committed at a workers' quarters at a Jalan Arang construction site here on Jan 3, 2023 at around 2.30am. Facts of the case revealed that two men, claiming to be officers from the Immigration Department, forced the complainant and her husband to surrender their belongings, including their work permits, under threats of immediate restraint. Upon becoming suspicious, the victim lodged a police report, which led to Alex's arrest on the same day. During an identification parade, Alex was found to match the description of one of the two suspects. As a result, Alex was charged in the Sessions Court with committing an offence punishable under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term that may extend to 20 years and caning upon conviction. Pregnant woman, husband jailed over robbery and theft in Melaka
MELAKA: A five-month pregnant woman and her husband were today sentenced to imprisonment in separate court proceedings for robbery, theft and disposing of stolen property. At the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court, Judge Haderiah Siri sentenced Jasila Jamaruddin, 31, to three years' imprisonment after she pleaded guilty to a robbery charge. She was charged with robbing a 42-year-old woman of a gold bracelet worth RM12,000 in front of a cafe in Bandar Baru Sungai Udang, Central Melaka, at about 11am on May 28 this year. The court ordered her to serve the sentence from the date of arrest, which was June 10. In a separate proceeding at the same court, Jaslia, pregnant with her fifth child, and her husband, Muhammad Alif Aiman Zaini, 24, were each sentenced to one year in prison by Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah after they pleaded guilty to receiving and disposing of stolen property. They were charged with selling the gold bracelet at a pawn shop in Jalan Kiara Semenyih, Hulu Langat, at about 4pm around 4pm on the day of the robbery. In another proceeding at the Ayer Keroh magistrate's court, magistrate Uthman Abdul Ghani sentenced the couple to five months in jail after they pleaded guilty to theft in a dwelling, an offence under Section 380 of the Penal Code. The couple was jointly charged with stealing an LED television, a Xiaomi Android box, an iron, a water heater, blankets and pillows, as well as the door and lift access cards of their rented accommodation at Atlantis Residence Tower, Kota Laksamana, on April 26. The couple was unrepresented in all the proceedings while the prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutors Wardah Ishhar and Muhammad Nazrin Ali Rahim.
