One of Notre Dame's top 2027 RB targets decided on Sunday to play for home state school
While Notre Dame football has had plenty of success on the recruiting trail, you can't win them all and that happened on Sunday with 2027 North Carolina running back Amir Brown.
The Irish offered during its 'Pot of Gold Day' in March and he took an unofficial visit the next month. Unfortunately, the allure to stay home and play for legendary head coach Bill Belichick got him to commit to the Tar Heels.
While this is a recruiting miss for Notre Dame, the targets they have in the 2027 class at running back have seen only two of them currently committed, as the Irish are currently trying to flip Kemon Spell away from Penn State. If they are able to do just that, missing out on Brown won't be seen as such a big loss, as Spell is a 5-star prospect.
There is no doubt in my mind that Notre Dame will land of of its top running back targets in the 2027 cycle, unfortunately it won't be Brown.

MSU hoops lands near middle of Big Ten in power rankings from Andy Katz
See where longtime college basketball analyst Andy Katz has the Spartans in his updated Big Ten power rankings College basketball analyst Andy Katz is expecting a notable drop off from the Spartans next season. Katz released updated power rankings for the Big Ten, and he has the Spartans dropping to the middle of the league next year. In his rankings of all 18 Big Ten schools, Katz has the Spartans coming in at No. 7. Ahead of Michigan State is Purdue (No. 1), Michigan (No. 2), Oregon (No. 3), UCLA (No. 4), Illinois (No. 5) and Wisconsin (No. 6). Michigan State won the Big Ten by three games last season and went the deepest of any team from the league in the NCAA Tournament in reaching the Elite Eight. The Spartans, however, have lost a number of key contributors from last year's squad -- including Jaden Akins and Jase Richardson. I personally have Michigan State right around the same spot as Katz but can understand some Spartans fans considering this a slight for the defending conference champs. I wouldn't be surprised if Michigan State surprised some folks again and ended up near the top of the league as we saw this past season. Sean Payton hosted a familiar face at Broncos training camp
The Denver Broncos had one of Sean Payton's former players at practice on Monday, although most NFL fans are more familiar with the guest for his coaching career than his quarterback days. Jason Garrett, who was a backup quarterback with the New York Giants when Payton served as their offensive coordinator in the early 2000s, was at the Broncos' facility on Monday for the team's training camp practice. 'I coached him, and he was our backup quarterback," Payton said after practice. "He's always been a close friend. He's made a couple of trips. I think he's doing some type of podcast special on leadership, and so he's here for the day. I'll spend some time with him. He's really bright, and he's been a close friend. We're going to go back to 2000, which is when we signed him. It's good to see him.' Garrett also visited Broncos training camp last summer. Garrett served as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys from 2011-2019, and he most recently served as the Giants' offensive coordinator from 2020-2021 before transitioning to broadcasting with NBC Sports. Duke's Manny Diaz addresses new ACC availability reports in 2025
College football is moving toward a model of increased transparency when it comes to injuries. After the SEC instituted weekly availability reports last season during conference play, several other leagues have followed suit this offseason. Among them is the ACC, and commissioner Jim Phillips announced that the conference will begin publishing availability reports in football, basketball and baseball during the upcoming athletics season. As the Duke Blue Devils begin fall camp, coach Manny Diaz said that he's fairly ambivalent about the prospect of sharing availability reports. He pointed out that the league did something similar previously, as it mandated private injury sharing between teams during his stint as the head coach at Miami, though the practice has since been discontinued. 'When I was at Miami, we had it and then it went away,' Diaz said on Monday, per On3. 'You know, I don't spend a whole lot of time thinking about that. We'll do what they tell us to do.' The reports will mark a departure from Duke's previous injury policy under Diaz, however. In 2024, Diaz opted to avoid going into much detail about injuries beyond those that were season-ending. Now, the Blue Devils will be required to submit availability reports two days before games with those reports being updated in the days that follow as leagues around the country look to, among other things, curb the influence of sports betting within facilities.
