‘Ek Chutki Sindoor Ki Kimat…': Delhi CM Rekha Gupta's ‘Bollywood' Dig At Jaya Bachchan

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta criticised Jaya Bachchan for questioning Operation Sindoor's name, India's response to the Pahalgam attack.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday took a sarcastic jibe at Bollywood actress and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan for questioning the naming of Operation Sindoor– India's retaliatory strikes on Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
While speaking during a debate in the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, CM Gupta responded to Bachchan, saying, 'She asked why the operation was named Sindoor. I will answer her with a filmy dialogue – '' Ek chutki Sindoor ki kimat aap kya jano Jaya Madam? Aap toh filmon ki dunya jaanti hai, desh ki sachchai nahi ' (You don't know the value of a pinch of vermilion Jaya madam. You know about films, not the reality of the country.)"

She further launched a scathing attack on the opposition parties, alleging that they support anti-national elements and do not love the country.
'These people do not love Bharat but love anti-national forces because they see their own reflection in them. They have named themselves 'INDIA', but when they speak, it feels like they are spokespersons for Pakistan."
She further alleged that members of the Opposition had questioned the credibility of Operation Sindoor even in the Lok Sabha. 'They do not trust their own Army, their own Prime Minister, but they trust foreign countries," she charged.
Gupta also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the success of the military response following the Pahalgam terror attack. 'Operation Sindoor was a befitting reply to Pakistan after the attack in Pahalgam, where many women lost their loved ones," Gupta said.
'Prime Minister Modi played a huge role in protecting the dignity of our sisters," she added.
She paid tribute to the courage and commitment of the armed forces and said that under PM Modi's leadership, India has found a protector who acts like a 'courageous father, a compassionate brother, and a resolute national leader".
What Jaya Bachchan Said?
The Samajwadi Party MP had triggered a row after questioning the naming of Operation Sindoor. She argued that the operation's name was insensitive, as the attack 'destroyed the sindoor" of many women who lost their husbands in the April 22 attack.
'I would congratulate you on the writers you have hired. You give grand names. Why did you name it 'Sindoor'? Sindoor toh ujad gaya (sindoor was destroyed), the wives of those who were killed," she had said.
Her comments were met with interruptions from members of the ruling party.
Pahalgam Terror Attack
In one of the biggest attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, Lashkar-linked terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists in Pahalgam on April 22, killing at least 26 people, including foreign tourists, and injuring many others. The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar offshoot, claimed responsibility for the attack.
India responded with Operation Sindoor on May 7, bombing nine terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in pre-dawn strikes that killed at least 100 militants. The operation sparked four days of cross-border fighting involving fighter jets, missiles and artillery.

Monsoon Session: Delhi CM tables two CAG audit reports of AAP term

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday tabled two Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) reports in the Assembly on the performance of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. However, there was no discussion on the reports. With this, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has tabled 10 out of 14 pending CAG reports on AAP's governance. The first report, titled 'Welfare of Building and Other Construction Workers', pointed out several shortcomings in the schemes for construction workers, including unreliable data, duplication of registered workers, and discrepancies in the cess collected from builders for workers' welfare. The Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board (DBOCWWB) is already facing an Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) probe over registration of 'ghost workers'. The other CAG report, titled 'State Finances for the year 2023-24', highlighted a 55.30% fall in revenue surplus in one year — ₹14,457 crore in 2022-23 to ₹6,462 crore in 2023-24. The report also noted a 'continuous mismatch' between receipts and expenditure, indicating a 'rising fiscal stress'. Responding to CAG's findings regarding the welfare of construction workers, AAP said that Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena and the BJP-led Centre should admit 'that they failed in their primary duty of vigilance and posted corrupt officers in sensitive positions'. 'Many loopholes' About the registration of workers with the DBOCWWB, the report said, 'The availability of duplicate images, images with no faces, and multiple registrations of the same face indicates several loopholes in the registration process.' In its audit spanning four years up to March 2023, the CAG also identified 'huge differences' in the records of cess collectors, district records and the board regarding the total cess collection. 'The difference in figures of the cess as per district records and as per the board for four years amounted to ₹204.95 crore. The differences were not reconciled. The department did not maintain a reconciled database of cess assessed, collected and remitted,' stated the report. A Delhi government official said the board had responded to the CAG's findings with a 'point-by-point' rebuttal, which was not included in the report. 'The discrepancies in data were due to a shift to a newer portal for workers created by the National Informatics Centre. The differences in cess collections were due to some builders depositing the money to the district office and others directly to the board's bank account,' the official added. The official added that the performance audit has neither found any 'ghost worker' in the system nor any embezzlement. L-G to blame: AAP In a statement, AAP said, 'Right from 2015, the BJP-appointed L-G appointed his favourite officers at sensitive positions in the government. It was the BJP-appointed L-G who headed the Vigilance and ACB departments. It was the primary duty of the L-G to prevent corruption.'

Govt. tables private school fee regulation Bill amid protest by AAP legislators

Education Minister Ashish Sood on Monday tabled the Delhi School Education (Fee Regulation and Transparency) Bill, 2025, aimed at regulating fee hikes in private schools, in the Assembly on the first day of the Monsoon Session. The Bill was tabled amid a protest by the Opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which termed it a 'blueprint for loot'. Speaker Vijender Gupta said detailed discussions will take place on Tuesday. The government had approved the Bill in April amid a stir by parents over the 'arbitrary' fee hikes by private schools in the national capital. Explaining the modalities, the Minister said, 'The Bill will apply to all private unaided recognised schools in Delhi – irrespective of board, land status or minority status. Every school will have to submit its proposed fee structure for the next three academic years. Fees can be revised only once every three years, which will give financial stability to parents, and they will be well informed.' Mr. Sood said strict penalties ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹10 lakh will be imposed for violations of the Bill, and a fine of ₹50,000 for any coercive action on students for non-payment of fees. Alleging that the previous governments entered into 'under-the-table' settlements with private school managements and did not act against 'violations' under the Delhi School Education Act, 1973, Mr. Sood added, 'This issue is not a recent problem, but one that has been troubling parents in Delhi for the past several decades. But now we are taking decisive steps to solve it so that education is not just within the reach of a select few, but accessible to every child.' Barbs exchanged Leader of the Opposition Atishi claimed that 'no public consultations took place' while framing the Bill. In response, Mr. Sood said, 'We have consulted everyone we had to.' Ms. Atishi added that the Bill should be sent to a Select Committee and directions must be issued to reverse all fee hikes during the previous 2024-25 academic session. Earlier in the day, she claimed there is no provision in the Bill for audits and 'it empowers schools, not parents'. Operation Sindoor The Assembly also held a discussion on the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. BJP legislator Shikha Roy said the retaliatory strikes by India should be incorporated in the school education syllabus. 'I request my government to make this [Operation Sindoor] a part of the syllabus for Delhi students as soon as possible,' she said. The discussion on the strikes carried out by the Indian armed forces saw AAP's Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha hit out at the BJP-ruled government at the Centre, prompting the Speaker to order the Opposition MLA to be marshalled out of the House for using 'derogatory language against the Prime Minister'. The Speaker also directed that the words used by the MLA be expunged from the proceedings.

Less than 15% of youth skilled under government scheme placed

. NEW DELHI: As unemployment continues to be a concern, government data shows that over 1.6 crore youth across India have been trained under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) since 2015, though only about 24.3 lakh secured job placements - less than 15% of the total youth trained. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, skill development minister Jayant Chaudhary said that while placement tracking was done under the first three phases of PMKVY (2015-2022), the current phase (PMKVY 4.0) focuses more on empowering candidates to pursue varied career paths and provides orientation support through platforms like Skill India Digital Hub. The platform connects trained individuals with potential employers and apprenticeship opportunities, with Rozgar Melas and National Apprenticeship Melas providing additional placement support. However, employment outcomes remain modest. Of the 56.89 lakh certified candidates in Short-Term Training (STT) between 2015 and 2022, only 24.3 lakh were reported placed - around 43%. Analysts say the low employment ratio reflects a continued gap between training curricula and industry requirements. The government acknowledged the need to align skilling with local demand and industry trends and has started district-level skill gap studies and state-specific training programmes. Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh lead in both training enrolment and loan assistance. Efforts to improve quality outcomes include training through accredited centres, on-the-job training, the National Credit Framework, and regular third-party evaluations. A third-party assessment of PMKVY 4.0 is currently underway to guide policy corrections. Stay informed with the latest business news, updates on bank holidays and public holidays .
