Atlanta to Get Its First Chai Cafe

When you walk into an Indian home, instead of hello, you may be greeted with one simple question: Chai? Tea time is an integral part of many Indian households, and no one knows that better than the Chai Box creator, Monica Sunny, who makes aromatic cups of meditative chai on her Instagram while running the country's forefront chai brand. The Atlanta resident is now set to open the city's first chai cafe in Upper Westside in the former Doughnut Dollies space on Howell Mill. It will open late this year. 'Chai time has always been sacred in our home — an invitation to slow down, and connect,' says Sunny, whose chai was one of Oprah's Favorite Things in 2021. 'You can get a chai latte at just about every coffee shop; you can order chai at most Indian restaurants. But there's not a single place here in Atlanta that's fully dedicated to chai, the way there are chai wallas and street-side tea stalls all over India. Opening this cafe gives us a platform to bring that experience to life.' Expect Sunny's popular chai blends sourced from India at the cafe, including rose, masala, and kadak varieties, in addition to Indian filter coffee, seasonal drinks, and chai-inspired desserts (think chai waffles). The cafe will also include a retail section to take chai blends and other local goods home. Sunny has had a meteoric rise since opening her company in 2016 out of Marietta. Not only did it land on Oprah's Favorite Things list, but her viral chai concentrate was picked up by 21 Costco locations. Doraville's soju distillery, Minhwa Spirits, also collaborated with Sunny to create a chai gin called Queen Huh last year. 'Opening a chai cafe has always been a dream and part of my vision for the Chai Box,' says Sunny. 'I wanted to create a space where people could experience chai the way I grew up drinking it.' FYI: Amazon Prime Day is coming! A pair of capri leggings to wear on the days your top priority is comfort. These everyday leggings are sleek, smooth, and totally opaque. Promising review: "I bought based on other reviews and these did NOT disappoint!!! They are the perfect thickness, and even in hot temperatures, they are perfect! I love the high waist and how they stay in place. I have purchased four pairs so far and plan to purchase more in the future. They are true to size." —Stephanie SPrice: $17.99+ (available in sizes XS–4XL and 14 colors) A six-pack of low-cut ankle socks with cushioning that reviewers say are comparable to Bombas but at a fraction of the cost. Promising review: "So far I have had these for a few weeks and I wear them way more than my Bombas. To be honest, I think the quality of these has been pretty comparable! My husband is picky with socks, so I encouraged him to give them a shot during his workout, and he loved them! I got both white and gray. Highly recommend both." —MorgsPrice: $14.99 (available in sizes S–XL and eight color packs) A Simplehuman pet food storage container you can use for dog food, cat food, or even bird food if you're looking for a convenient yet sleek container that still gives an airtight seal to keep food fresh. Promising review: "Keeps kibbles fresh as advertised. I buy my husky's kibbles from huge! I used to put it in a plastic container (the ones everyone has), and the rest was left in the bag with a chip clip. My husky would eat kibbles alone the first day, but then hardly would touch (unless I added a lot of meat and rice) otherwise. Now she eats her kibbles as if I opened a new bag. Also happy that the whole bag from Costco fits, so no more chip clip! It's pricey but worth it in the long run." —HHPrice: $119+ (available in three sizes and three colors) A set of self-watering stakes that can help your plants stay hydrated while you're on vacation. It's also a great use for your empty wine bottles Fill the wine bottle with water. Moisten the soil and place the stake. Then put the bottle in the stake. I have most of my plants hooked up to drip irrigation but there were a few I hadn't gotten around to yet before I was out of town for a week. Of course we were due to get our first blast of 100+ heat that week so I ordered these to see if it could keep everything alive long enough for me to get back. Worked like an absolute charm both in the landscape and in pots. Will be buying more just because I like the aesthetic around the garden." —yomamashousePrice: $20.99 for a set of six A rechargeable clip-on fan perfect for camping, strolls with baby, or just your desk at the office. I'm actually buying a second one so all guests will get in on the action. 😉" —Robert A. SandefurPrice: $35.99+ (available in five colors) A portable utility fan if you need the wind to huff and puff and blow the heat down. The head of the fan rotates almost all the way around, so you have many options for directing air flow to where you need. Having the 2 outlets is such a convenience. The cord on it is heavy-duty and long!! I've had some say it's a bit loud, but it's a powerful fan, there's gonna be some kind of noise from it. Personally, I didn't mind it or think it was loud to me. It's powerful!! If that's the kind of fan you are looking for, then this is the one! Highly recommend.👌🏽" —Barbara $54.99 A plushy dog squeak toy — tug-o-war approved — that'll withstand even the roughest of doggies.
