Prayagraj: The long-anticipated redevelopment work of Civil Lines bus station in Prayagraj is set to commence in May. Spread across 4.16 acres in the heart of Prayagraj, the existing bus station will soon be replaced by a state-of-the-art 13-storey building, designed to resemble an airport in terms of both the structure and facilities.

The project will be executed under a

(PPP) model, with development responsibilities entrusted to B-Together, a brand of the Omaxe Company, in 2023. Soil testing and preliminary preparations were completed last year. However, the construction work, earlier scheduled for completion before the Maha Kumbh, was postponed until the conclusion of the grand religious gathering.
The new Civil Lines Bus Port will offer facilities including air-conditioned waiting lounge, underground parking, a charging station for electric vehicles, Divyang (differently-abled) friendly counters, VIP lounges, hotels, restaurants, banquet halls, food courts, shopping complexes, and retail shops.
The design ensures smooth movement allowing easy access to buses, while visitors heading to other amenities like hotels and shopping areas can do so without interference. Multiple lifts and escalators will be installed for seamless navigation.
The Uttar Pradesh Development Authority has approved the detailed blueprint of the new bus station, and the construction is expected to start within a month. During the construction phase, the Civil Lines Bus Station will be closed for approximately two years and the bus services will be rerouted through alternative temporary stands strategically chosen across the city.
Civil Lines being the largest bus station in Prayagraj division handling around 850 buses daily, the need for efficient alternate arrangements was critical. The regional manager of UP Roadways, Ravindra Kumar Singh, has shortlisted five potential locations for temporary bus operations: Vidya Vahini ground near KP Inter College, Printing College, Nehru Park, KP (Katra), and Leader Road Bus Station. The proposed distribution will see buses operating on routes to Lucknow, Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Rewa, Mirzapur, Gorakhpur, and Varanasi from Vidya Vahini, while services to Lucknow and Ayodhya may also operate from Teliyarganj, near the Northern Regional Institute of Printing Technology (NRIPT College).

Leader Road Bus Station, currently handling buses towards Kaushambi, will continue to do so, with the addition of Kanpur-bound buses. Another potential site for Kanpur-bound buses is Nehru Park. The final decision on these operations is expected shortly, following review and approval by the Prayagraj district magistrate.

Karnataka generates 200MW solar power under Kusum-C; 545MW to follow

Under the Kusum-C scheme, which aims to solarise agricultural feeders and provide daytime electricity supply to farmers' pumpsets, 200MW of electricity is being produced. In the coming months, 545MW of electricity will be generated, stated energy minister KJ George. Speaking to reporters after the energy department's progress review meeting of Hassan district, held on Friday at the Zilla Panchayat hall in the city, George said, "Under the Kusum-C scheme, construction of solar units with a capacity of around 200MW is completed. In the next few months, solar units with a capacity of 545MW will be commissioned at 93 locations. This will help provide an adequate daytime electricity supply to farmers." "The state govt has set a target of generating 2,400MW of solar electricity through feeder solarisation of agricultural pumpsets under the Kusum-C scheme. Recently, chief minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated a solar power unit established under the Kusum-C scheme in Gauribidanur. The feeder solarisation work is progressing at a rapid pace," the energy minister added. Under the Kusum-C scheme, generating 1MW of electricity requires 4 acres of land. If govt land is available, CM Siddaramaiah has directed that it be allocated free of cost. However, private power producers must pay ₹25,000 per acre, which will be deposited with the district commissioner and used to improve govt schools and anganwadis in villages where the substations are located, the minister elaborated. "If private land is used, developers awarded the power generation contracts will lease the land and pay landowners a minimum of ₹25,000 per acre," George said. Of the 4 lakh unauthorised irrigation pumpsets in the state, 3 lakh are already regularised. For pumpsets within 500m of power feeders, transformers will be installed by the department. Those beyond 500m will receive solar pumpsets under the Kusum-B scheme, he said. Earlier, during a progress review meeting, the district MLAs raised issues concerning the energy department in their constituencies. In response, George instructed the CESC MD to take swift action and reiterated that officials should proactively consult elected representatives and follow through on their suggestions. MP Shreyas Patel , MLA and Housing Board chairman KM Shivalingegowda, MLAs K Manju, Swaroop Prakash, CN Balakrishna, HK Suresh, and S Manjunath were present.

B2 bombers roars over White House; Donald Trump and Melania Trump celebrate U.S. Independence Day

U.S. President Donald Trump signed his flagship tax and spending Bill into law on Friday (July 4,2025), capping a grandiose White House Independence Day ceremony featuring a stealth bomber fly-by. Mr. Trump also played down criticism by Democrats that the unpopular legislation will slash social welfare programs, saying: 'You won't even notice it.' With First Lady Melania Trump at his side, Mr. Trump watched from the White House balcony as two B-2 bombers — the same type that recently struck Iranian nuclear sites — roared overhead, accompanied by F-35 and F-22 fighter jets. The 79-year-old's victory lap came a day after Republicans fell into line and passed the sprawling mega-Bill, allowing him to sign it as he had hoped on the Fourth of July holiday. The Bill honours many of Mr. Trump's campaign promises: extending tax cuts from his first term, boosting military spending and providing massive new funding for Mr. Trump's migrant deportation drive. 'Never been anything like it' The legislation's signing caps two weeks of significant wins for Mr. Trump that have seen him tighten his grip on power and his party alike. The successes include the recent Iran-Israel ceasefire that was sealed after what he called the 'flawless' U.S. air strikes on Iran. Pilots who carried out the bombing on Iran were among those invited to the White House event, which included a picnic for military families on the South Lawn. 'The last two weeks, there has never been anything like it, as far as winning,' said Mr. Trump. Mr. Trump had however forced through the tax Bill despite deep misgivings in the Republican Party that it would balloon the national debt. The legislation is expected to pile an extra $3.4 trillion over a decade onto the U.S. deficit. It squeezed past a final vote in the House of Representatives 218-214 after Republican Speaker Mike Johnson worked through the night to corral the final group of dissenters. Mr. Trump thanked Johnson at the White House event, saying: 'What a job.' 'Horrible day' Mr. Trump's billionaire former ally Elon Musk was among the most vocal critics, and he has pledged to set up a new political party to oppose Republicans who backed the Bill. Democrats and many voters have meanwhile expressed concerns that the 'big beautiful Bill' will gut health and welfare support. The Bill will force through the largest cuts to the Medicaid health insurance program for low-income Americans since its 1960s launch, while also shrinking federal food assistance programs. Up to 17 million people could lose their insurance coverage under the Bill, according to some estimates. Scores of rural hospitals are expected to close as a result. But Mr. Trump played down the concerns. 'They've developed a standard line, and we can't let them get away with it. 'Oh, it's dangerous. Oh, everybody's going to die.' It's actually just the opposite,' said Mr. Trump. Democrats hope public opposition to the Bill will help them flip the House in the 2026 midterm election, pointing to data showing that it represents a huge redistribution of wealth from the poorest Americans to the richest. People attending the Fourth of July parade in Washington on Saturday had mixed feelings. 'Yesterday was a horrible day, today is the best part of America,' said Elisabeth Hubir, 70.

Trump signs 'One Big Beautiful Bill' into law

New York, July 5 (UNI) US President Donald Trump signed his landmark policy bill, the One Big Beautiful Bill, into law. The signing ceremony took place at the White House yesterday afternoon. This came a day after the bill was narrowly passed by the House of Representatives on Thursday. Trump set a deadline for the bill to pass before July 4 to make the signing event a part of the Independence Day ceremony that included a B-2 bomber flyover. The law represents Trump's agenda policies including tax cuts and funding boosts for military expenditure and border security. Speaking before the signing ceremony, Trump praised Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson for their work in holding the conference together to get the bill passed. "Those two are a team that is not going to be beat," he said. Representatives of both parties in the House were deeply divided on the bill, which features sweeping cuts to spending on healthcare and food programs for the poor, and increased expenditure on military and border security, while cutting taxes on a broad line of incomes. It has been predicted that the bill will add 3.3 trillion U.S. dollars to the country's already high debt burden. The bill passed the House voting with a narrow margin of 218 to 214, with every Democrat and two Republicans, Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, voting against it. Following the passage of the bill in the House, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called the legislation "an encapsulation of all of the policies that the president campaigned on and the American people voted on," and said it was a "victorious day for the American people." The White House has touted the bill's passage as the biggest legislative win of the president, saying in a release Thursday afternoon that "Again and again, President Trump and Republicans fought and won for the American people."
