Several popular products sold at Walmart and Walmart.com have been recalled nationwide in recent months due to risks ranging from serious injury and permanent vision loss to fire, burn hazards, and even the risk of death.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) triggered these urgent recalls, affecting families, children, and individuals across the United States.
Why It Matters
The recent wave of product recalls involving Walmart affects a broad spectrum of household, toy, and children's products. These recalls aim to protect U.S. consumers from hazards—such as tip-overs, ingestion of dangerous batteries, and fires—that could result in serious injuries or, in some cases, deaths.
What To Know
Aiho Dressers
The recalled dressers are unstable if they are not anchored to the wall, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in injuries or death to children

CPSC
Aiho recalled 1,900 five-drawer dressers sold on Walmart.com due to instability, posing tip-over and entrapment hazards that could result in serious injury or death to children. These dressers fail to meet STURDY Act safety standards. No injuries have been reported. Owners should stop using the dressers if unanchored to the wall and contact Aiho for a refund.
Minecraft Light-Up Slap Ruler Bracelets
The battery compartment of the recalled light-up ruler bracelets can be opened easily by children allowing access to the button cell batteries, violating the battery-operated toys requirements under the mandatory standard for toys.

CPSC
Innovative Designs recalled about 75,900 units of these bracelets, sold nationwide at Walmart, because the battery compartment can be accessed by children, violating safety standards and risking ingestion. This can cause internal burns or death. Consumers should stop using and contact Innovative Designs for a refund.
Frigidaire Minifridges
The minifridges' internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing, posing fire and burn hazards.

CPSC
Curtis International recalled approximately 634,000 units after 26 reports of the minifridges smoking, igniting, and causing over $700,000 in property damage. Two smoke inhalation injuries have been reported. Owners should stop using the affected models immediately and follow the manufacturer's instructions for a refund.

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A major recall involving the Cosco 2-Step Kitchen Stepper has been issued nationwide. The recall affects approximately 302,000 units sold at Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe's, BJ's Wholesale Club, and several major online retailers. Sales took place from February 2021 through July 2025, with prices ranging from $56 to $70. An additional 11,000 units were distributed in Canada. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall after reports of injuries stemming from a faulty safety bar, urging consumers to stop using the product immediately and contact Dorel Home Furnishings for a free repair kit. The Consumer Product Safety Commission warned: "The safety bar can detach or break while in use, posing serious fall and injury hazards to consumers." Newsweek contacted Dorel Home Furnishings' listed press representative and Cosco's recall unit via email on Sunday, outside of normal business hours. Cosco 2-Step Kitchen Stepper. Cosco 2-Step Kitchen Stepper. CPSC Why It Matters This recall highlights ongoing product safety concerns in the U.S. consumer market, particularly with household goods sold through major national retailers. Recalls for products found at popular chains like Walmart and Target directly affect millions of American households and underscore the importance of regulatory oversight on items intended for everyday domestic use. What To Know The recall involves Cosco 2-Step Kitchen Steppers manufactured by Dorel Home Furnishings Inc., also known as Cosco Home and Office Products, based in Columbus, Indiana. The affected folding step stools include model numbers 11349WHG1E, 11349GRN1E, 11349NVY1E, 11349WHG2, 11349GRN4, 11349GRN12, 11349WHG12C, 11349WHG12W, 11349WHG4F, and 11349CBWH4T. These steppers were available in white/gray, green, navy, and blue, and feature the Cosco logo molded onto the handle. Model numbers can be found on a label on one of the stepper's arms. The recall was prompted by 34 reports of the safety bar detaching or breaking, including two incidents that resulted in head injuries, CPSC's alert said. Consumers are advised to stop using the safety bar and keep the product away from children until the repair has been completed. The recalled steppers were sold at a wide range of major retailers including Target, Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, BJ's Wholesale Club, and online platforms like Amazon, Wayfair, and Overstock. Consumers should cease use of the safety bar and store the stepper out of children's reach, the recall said. Dorel is offering a free repair kit, which includes a sliding locking mechanism for the safety bar, installation instructions, and an updated warning label. The repair kit and shipping are provided at no cost. To receive a repair kit, consumers can contact Dorel toll-free at 888-628-3778 (8 a.m.-6 p.m. ET, Monday-Friday), email recall@ or visit and click on "SAFETY NOTICES." Additional recall information can be found on the official CPSC page. What Happens Next Consumers are instructed to stop using the safety bar function of affected Cosco 2-Step Kitchen Steppers and keep them out of reach of children until the repair kit is installed. Man Finds Kitten 'Baking' in Walmart Lot Heat—so He Got To Work

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. What began as a trip to the store for cat litter turned into a rescue mission for Norman Benford, 52, from Altoona, Pennsylvania. When heading to Walmart, Benford heard from his partner that there was a kitten trapped underneath a gazebo at the store, and he knew what to do. "I was heading out to Walmart for cat litter to donate to our local shelter," Benford told Newsweek. "My partner mentioned that somebody had posted in a local pet rescue group earlier in the morning about a possibly feral kitten in distress." Equipped with a carrier, gloves, and a broom, Benford arrived to find several Walmart employees attempting to lure the tiny kitten out. She was buried among garbage and unreachable under the structure when Benford used the broom to clear debris. The cat then bolted toward a row of shopping carts and disappeared into the undercarriage of a truck. Pictures of Benford and the kitten he rescued from the Walmart car park. NormanB616/Reddit The driver was quick to assist, kicking the floor from inside the truck and opening the hood to expose the kitten's hiding spot. Fifteen minutes later, he had managed to get hold of the kitten. "I forcefully scruffed her and pulled her out from the truck and plopped her into the carrier. I was not going to let her escape again to die of heat exposure or get crushed by a car in the parking lot," Benford said. The kitten was in a sad condition: overheated, wounded, filthy, and covered in fleas and feces. Benford sprung into action and brought her to Tiny Paws NICU—a local rescue specializing in neonatal kittens. "I had never encountered a kitten this small and in this condition in the wild, and I needed guidance," he said, crediting Adele and Janelle from Tiny Paws for their support. In 2024, approximately 7 million animals entered U.S. shelters and rescues, according to Shelter Animals Count—an increase of nearly 3 percent from 2023. Of animals that entered shelters, 60 percent were stray. Five baths and lots of attention later, the kitten has begun to show signs of comfort and trust. "She is sweet and will sit in my lap on the back porch and relax for extended periods of time," Benford said. "She has a tiny little meow but the biggest purr when she is content and happy." Pictures of the kitten who is now settling well into her new home. Pictures of the kitten who is now settling well into her new home. NormanB616/Reddit Benford shared the story of the kitten rescue on Reddit where the post has over 30,000 views. Here he shared: "So, this little girl was literally baking underneath the employee gazebo at my local Walmart." In the comments, people shared their reactions. "Thank you for saving her," said one Redditor. While another wrote: "You're rad humans! May the universe bring you joy for your kindness." Now approximately eight weeks old, the currently unnamed kitten continues to recover in quarantine with Benford, away from his seven other cats. The hope is to adopt her permanently. "We intend to do everything to make it work. We're very much in love with this adorable little life that the universe put in our care," he said. Benford thanked Tiny Paws NICU for their help with the kitten: "They are a self-funded, registered 501(C)3 non-profit doing financially and emotionally draining work... I have the utmost respect for them and the work they do." Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share?
