Penn State recruiting fireworks coming this holiday weekend?

USA Today19 hours ago
Penn State could be setting off some recruiting fireworks this July 4th weekend if some of the latest recruiting predictions prove to be accurate. With a couple of recruiting targets expected to announce their college decisions this weekend, Penn State looks to be in good shape for a few more additions to the Class of 2026.
The first name to watch on Saturday will be Tyson Harley. Harley is a four-star edge rusher from Gonzaga High School in Washington D.C. At 6'-4" and 210 pounds, Harley has the size that would fit quite well with the Penn State defense, and he has experience at linebacker. 247Sports ranks Harley as the 33rd-best edge rusher in the nation, and he is the second overall recruit out of Washington D.C.
All three predictions currently on record at 247Sports favor Penn State for Harley's commitment. The On3 recruiting prediction tool gives Penn State an overwhelming 92.8% chance of receiving Harley's commitment.
Harley is scheduled to announce his commitment Saturday evening at about 7:30 p.m. ET. While Penn State is considered the strong favorite to secure his commitment, the other schools reportedly in the mix include Maryland, Rutgers, Michigan State, and Virginia Tech.
Penn State could also be on the verge of adding another offensive lineman to the recruiting class as well. Marlen Bright, a three-star tackle from New Jersey, is also expected to announce his college commitment on Saturday. Once again, Penn State is considered the prohibitive favorite as the announcement draws near. The 6'-6" 260-pound offensive tackle from DePaul Catholic in Wayne, New Jersey, is scheduled to announce his decision at about 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.
The On3 recruiting prediction tool predicts a 96.3% chance that Bright ultimately commits to the Nittany Lions. There are only two official predictions posted to 247Sports, but both are in favor of the Nittany Lions.
The only other school thought to be on the radar for Bright may be Illinois, but the odds and trends do seem to favor Penn State over their fellow Big Ten program.
Penn State's Class of 2026 currently ranks no. 15 in the nation according to On3 and no. 12 according to 247Sports. Penn State ranks fifth among Big Ten schools according to both rankings, behind USC, Ohio State, Michigan, and Oregon in each.

Michigan football beats out Florida State, SMU, for 4-star safety

The post Michigan football beats out Florida State, SMU, for 4-star safety appeared first on ClutchPoints. Another one for the Michigan football team! The Wolverines have been on a tear on the recruiting trail as of late, and the momentum continued on Monday when four-star safety Andre Clarke announced his commitment to Michigan. Teams like Florida State, SMU and Kentucky were also high on his list, but Clarke found the best fit with the Wolverines. Head coach Sherrone Moore and his staff are loading up in the 2026 class. Advertisement 'BREAKING: Four-Star Safety Andre Clarke Jr. has Committed to Michigan, he tells me for @on3recruits,' Hayes Fawcett said in a post. 'The 6'1 185 S from Richmond, VA chose the Wolverines over Kentucky, Florida State, & SMU.' Andre Clarke had a short message to share when he committed to the Michigan football program: 'AGTG I'm ready to work #GoBlue,' he said. Clarke is a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He is the #136 player in the 2026 recruiting class, the #11 safety and the #4 player in the state of Virginia. Clarke currently attends Hermitage High School in Richmond, VA. Some top ACC programs recruited him hard, but Michigan got the job done. Advertisement 'Clarke is a premier level playmaker in the defensive secondary with the ability to play both cornerback and safety,' Clarke's scouting report reads. 'Very desirable combination of instincts, athleticism, and tackling ability. Clarke can mirror and match receivers in coverage but also play center field safety and read the quarterback with great timing and leaping ability on passes downfield.' There is a lot of time before Clarke has to think about going pro, but Michigan is definitely getting a player with that type of talent. He should be playing football for a long time. 'Plays heady and aware of down and distance in the passing game but can also come up and lay explosive hits on ball carriers,' the scouting report adds. 'Clarke is more thin-framed but shows more strength and toughness than his size insists. Clarke's playmaking ability and coverage chops project him to a mid to early round NFL draft choice projection.' The Michigan football team is on a recruiting heater unlike anything we have ever seen from the program. Jim Harbaugh always brought in solid classes while he was the head coach, but Sherrone Moore has been on another level so far. The Wolverines have picked up seven big commitments in the last week, and more are on the way. The 2026 Michigan football recruiting class was barely ranked inside the top-50 not too long ago. Now, the Wolverines have a top-10 class. Related: 4-star EDGE picks Ole Miss football over Ohio State, Washington Related: Georgia gets recruiting win over Oregon, USC with 4-star DB

Michigan football surprisingly loses out on 4-star to Texas Tech

The post Michigan football surprisingly loses out on 4-star to Texas Tech appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Michigan football team has been on fire on the recruiting trail lately, but they did miss out on a recruit on Wednesday. A lot of people expected four-star safety Donovan Webb to commit to the Wolverines, but when he announced his decision, he picked Texas Tech. This is a big get for the Red Raiders, and while it's disappointing for head coach Sherrone Moore and Michigan, Texas Tech definitely needed this one more. Advertisement 'BREAKING: Four-Star Safety Donovan Webb has Committed to Texas Tech, he tells me for @rivals,' Hayes Fawcett said in a post. 'The 6'0 185 S from Frisco, TX chose the Red Raiders over Michigan, Kansas State, & Notre Dame.' Donovan Webb is a Texas native, so it makes sense that he wants to stay in-state. He had a message for Texas Tech football fans upon his commitment. 'West Texas, I'm home!' He said. Webb is a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. He is the #349 player in the 2026 recruiting class, #30 safety and the #46 player in the state of Texas. Webb currently attends Panther Creek High School in Frisco, TX. The Michigan football team recruited him hard, but it couldn't secure the commitment. Advertisement 'Ultra-productive safety prospect with three-phase playmaking experience,' Webb's scouting report reads. 'Possesses requisite physical traits for the back end of the defense, pushing 6 feet, 180-185 pounds with plus length. Volume tackler with passing game impact as well, as evidenced by consecutive 100-tackle seasons and nine INTs/19 breakups across soph-junior campaigns. Displays impressive athleticism as a return game threat (two TDs as a junior). Ball-hawking safety archetype who looks for the big play.' The Michigan football team was hoping to land a player with NFL potential, but instead, that's what Texas Tech is getting. 'Made significant speed marker improvements on the track in Spring 2025 that hopefully help to unlock more explosiveness on the gridiron,' the scouting report adds. 'Plays a hyper-competitive style. That showed across multiple days of top performers-worthy recognition at the 2025 Texas 7on7 Championships in June. Sometimes can get too over-aggressive and handsy in coverage. Lacks a full catalog of testing data for more athletic context, but promising junior track times help. Projects as a high-major safety with possible role versatility depending on down-and-distance situations. Arrow seems to point up entering senior season with the potential to become a multi-year starter with NFL Draft upside.' The good news for Michigan is that its 2026 recruiting class is in fantastic shape. The Wolverines currently have one of the top recruiting classes in the country, and more commitments are expected to roll in later this week. Sherrone Moore will likely sign another top-10 class this year.
