DJ Hannah Laing organises, headlines and sells out debut Doof festival
Hannah gained widespread attention after the Covid pandemic with her edit of the early 2000s pop track Murder on the Dancefloor, which went viral on social media.Her profile quickly grew, and in 2023, her track Good Love, a collaboration with vocalist RoRo, reached the UK top 10 and was certified platinum.Since then, she has performed at major festivals including Glastonbury, Creamfields, TRNSMT and Parklife, and began a residency at Ibiza's legendary HI club earlier this year.Despite her success, it was only a few years ago she was still working full-time as a dental nurse, never imagining she'd one day be running a festival in her home city."I don't even think it has hit me yet," she said ahead of the gig."When I was working as a dental nurse, it was always just a hobby at weekends and, of course, I would have loved it to be my career. "Never did I think it would go this far, but I'm so happy it has, and no more teeth!"
Doof in the Park will feature three stages, each reflecting Hannah's style and the spirit of her brand, Doof, named after the heavy beats of her musical sound.The main stage will be headlined by Dutch trance legend Armin van Buuren, alongside former Radio 1 DJ, Judge Jules."I'm totally inspired by that 90s sound, and that really reflects my DJ sets and my production," she said."That's why I wanted to put those artists on the main stage, because that's the sound I truly love."The second stage will feature newer artists such as Charlie Sparks and ØTTA.Theirs is a style Hannah regularly plays, and she recently collaborated with Sparks on a track from her upcoming Into The Bounce EP.Scottish talent is also front and centre, with the third stage spotlighting local names including Billy Morris and Paul Findlay."Stage three is The Highlander stage," Hannah said."I did my residency in The Highlander in Ibiza and I just wanted to pay my respects to that because that's where my journey began."I wanted to put the local Dundee DJs on that stage and give them that good experience I used to have at The Highlander."Hannah believes the range of music across the three stages will attract a broad crowd."I knew when I announced a festival for Dundee there would be so many older people who would come, as well as the younger ones," she said."So I really wanted to have something for everybody."
Camperdown Park has hosted major music events before, including Radio 1's Big Weekend in 2023 and Carnival 56 in 2017.Both attracted large crowds and Hannah played at both.Now, she returns as the organiser and headliner of her own sold out festival and she said it felt like a full circle moment."It's surreal," she said."I know it's such a good spot for a festival, and it's ten minutes from my house."For Hannah, holding the event in Dundee was never in question."There's a major gap here," she said. "We don't have anything like it."People who are into dance music here usually need to travel, so I wanted to bring something new and fresh to people's doorstep."Hannah says supporting the local economy has been central to her plans and has tried to keep everything as local as possible - from the traders to security staff.She also hopes the event will help impact local businesses such as hotels, restaurants and beauty salons."With everything that it brings, it's great for our wee city."Although Doof in the Park is a debut event, Hannah is already thinking long term."This is definitely something I'd like to do yearly," she says, "I'd love that.""It's so good for Dundee."

Spectators were met with a cloudy start to the day followed by some light rain with some taking shelter under umbrellas and ponchos. The rain was seen to interrupt Carlos Alcaraz's practice before his match against Russian Andrey Rublev who has won one of their previous three meetings – on the clay in Madrid last year – and has powered his way through to the fourth round at Wimbledon for the third time. Meanwhile, on Court One spectators can expect to see Aryna Sabalenka who will face Elise Mertens later today.

'It does feel very lovely to be doing my own songs that I've written myself about my own experiences. 'And with that being said, This next song is one of my favorites that I've ever written. 'This song is all about embracing yourself, being unapologetically yourself and being proud of that.' Little Mix announced in December 2021 that they were going to part ways after finding success on X Factor in 2011. To reveal the news they penned on X: 'We wanted to let you all know that after the Confetti tour in April/May next year we are going to be taking a break from Little Mix. 'It's been 10 amazing years, a wonderful non-stop adventure... 'We feel the time is right to take a break so we can recharge and work on some other projects. Riot police evict hundreds from Airbnb after ‘gender reveal' gets out of hand
A 'gender reveal' in a cul-de-sac turned into a 200-strong 'Project X-style' house party, an Airbnb owner has revealed. Matt Genesis, 33, said he agreed to rent his 10-bed £635,000 house in the village of Norden, Greater Manchester, out to a group of eight people who booked it through Instagram for an event. But photographs show the moment hundreds of people crowded into the home, with the party spilling out onto the street as attendees parked on neighbours' driveways. Neighbours complained to Mr Genesis on June 25, but when he tried to log-in into the property's external security cameras he found they had been disconnected at the £450 a night rental. Police in riot vans had to disperse party-goers, some of whom had travelled from as far as London. Mr Genesis, the director of Fairway Building & Remedial Contractors, the company which owns the property, said he found 150 people when he arrived at the house at 9.30pm. Mr Genesis said: 'Whilst we were there, minibus after minibus was turning up – I'd say one every 15 minutes, a minibus full of six to eight people walking in. 'It was out of control – police turned up. We called them, obviously neighbours had called them. It was out of our control. 'Even the guy who booked it, it was out of his control on his behalf – he said he didn't expect anywhere near the amount of people, but it's been passed around group and groups.' Mr Genesis said the operation had been 'calculated' – with guests disabling the home's security systems. Mr Genesis said: 'Usually if guests are checking in we have cameras on the property, but as soon as they entered they turned the Wi-Fi off. 'That disabled the cameras, so we weren't able to deal with it any sooner than they could. It was very much 'Project X'.' Project X is a 2012 teen movie based on real life events when a house party attracts hundreds of unexpected revellers after details are posted on social media. £2k in losses The Airbnb owners were forced to say sorry to neighbours and cancel their next booking as they worked to replace broken furniture and deep clean the damaged house, suffering a total of £2,000 in losses. The property, which previously underwent a £200,000 renovation and includes a hot tub and pool tables, took three staff 12 hours to clean after the party. The only money the owners received in return is the £450 a night charge, plus a £250 damage deposit. Mr Genesis said: 'It was so structured, before we emptied the house out the people who were there said 'where do we go?' 'Guests had travelled from as far as London for it, so it was very, very calculated. It hit us – we seem like the bad guys, but at the same time it did ultimately hit us as well in the pocket.' James Gartside, 80, and Jane Gartside, 84, have lived next door to the home for more than 50 years, and remembered when it was previously owned by an older couple who had passed away. Mrs Gartside said she was asked if a visitor could park in their driveway, adding: 'I think I knew it was going to be quite busy, you just got that feeling quite quickly. 'Nine o'clock one of the owners arrived and said 'I'm sorry, this is what's happening' and said the police had been sent for. They got everybody out. It was just that night was out of control, when the police came. 'They calmed it all down – there was no fighting or anything like that. We had a meeting, we went around, they invited us all around and everybody felt very upset. They were very apologetic.' Mike Law, who lives on the other side of the property, said: 'They did very well to disperse them, in my opinion. In a way it was a problem at the time, but it's not lasted. 'There were certainly more than 200 people, I would say, it was a nuisance – but we can be a nuisance to our next door neighbours. 'I didn't know how they were going to fit in there. Before the big masses came I did offer our drive to park on, but I think the owners learnt a lesson on it and will obviously improve it.' Airbnb said it had looked into the situation and found the booking had been made through a third party, with no reservations made for the property on its platform.
