Jordan Addison, Minnesota Vikings WR, suspended for 3 games; set to miss key early-season matchups
,
Minnesota Vikings
wide receiver, was suspended for three games by the NFL on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) for violating the league's personal conduct policy for a drunken driving case last year. Addison will be permitted to practice and play in exhibition games before the suspension kicks in for games against Chicago, Atlanta, and Cincinnati, as reported by the news agency AP.
Addison avoided a trial by pleading no contest to a lesser charge in July 2025, after he faced two misdemeanor DUI charges for his arrest on July 12, 2024, when a California Highway Patrol officer found him asleep in his vehicle that was blocking a lane on an interstate exit near Los Angeles International Airport. He was arrested for excessive speeding the week before training camp of his rookie year, and the drunken driving arrest last offseason came after another dangerous off-the-field decision.

Addison, the 23rd pick of the 2023 draft, has 19 touchdowns and 1,786 receiving yards in his first two seasons to form a dominant duo with two-time All-Pro Justin Jefferson. He was contrite and remorseful upon reporting to training camp in 2024, praising the Vikings for their support after he said he was in a 'dark place' after the arrest.
How will Minnesota Vikings look without Jordan Addison
Without Addison for the first three games, new starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy will need to lean on depth wide receivers such as Jalen Nailor, rookie Tai Felton, and newcomer Rondale Moore if he's ready to play following his ACL rehabilitation. Tight ends T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver, and running back Aaron Jones, also figure to be vital options during Addison's absence to help keep defenses from keying more heavily on Jefferson than they already do.
Live Events
Addison, who finished his college career at USC after starting at Pittsburgh, matched Odell Beckham Jr. for the fourth-most touchdown receptions in league history by players before their 23rd birthday. Randy Moss (28), Rob Gronkowski (27), and Ja'Marr Chase (22) were the only ones with more.

Think before you speak, Karma hits instantly: Ashwin on Ben Stokes' comments on injury substitution
Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has criticised Ben Stokes for his dismissive remarks on injury substitutions , saying the England captain should "think before speaking", as " karma " came back to haunt them when they were left a batter short following Chris Woakes ' shoulder niggle in the fifth Test. India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant had retired hurt on the first day of the drawn fourth Test at Manchester but returned to bat the next day despite scans confirming a fracture in his right foot. "I want to talk about another imperfection in this series. There's a Tamil saying that loosely translates to 'Your karma will affect you almost instantly'. What you sow is what you reap," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel 'Ash Ki Baat'. Live Events "After the last Test, there were questions asked about the injury to Pant. Gautam Gambhir said that such injuries need a substitution. And when Stokes was asked about this response, he simply brushed it away, calling it a joke. I am a big fan of Stokes' cricketing abilities and his attitude. But he can think and then reply." Highlighting Woakes' determination to continue batting despite his injury, Ashwin added, "He was ready to give his life to win the game for his team, and almost did it too. He had the game awareness to run and give the strike to Atkinson. Hats off to Chris Woakes. Remarkable attitude, and a remarkable way to step out for your team, and put your body on the line." Ashwin also referenced former England captain Michael Vaughan 's comments on the need for cricket's rules to evolve. "Michael Vaughan said this is one area where the game can evolve. Substitutions should be allowed. All I'm saying is: show a little empathy for the other team. Stokes should have considered what it would be like if a player of Rishabh Pant's calibre was in his team and got injured. "Wouldn't you want a substitution? Wouldn't that be fair? You are free to share your opinion - but using words like 'joke' and 'ridiculous' isn't respectful. Think before you speak. Karma hits instantly," he added. PTI
