ACC, Ramallah commerce chamber talk Jordanian-Palestinian trade cooperation
AMMAN — Chairman of Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) Khalil Hajj Tawfiq on Saturday agreed with Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ramallah and Bireh Governorates Abdul Ghani Attari to increase cooperation and coordination in multiple areas of common interest, which would reflect "positively" on the two countries' trade relations.
Speaking at the meeting, Hajj Tawfiq said that the ACC is "fully" ready to support the Palestinian commercial sector and promote Palestinian products in the local market, as well as providing specialised training for the Palestinian chamber and the business sector, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Hajj Tawfiq highlighted the importance of working to overcome difficulties and challenges facing Jordanian-Palestinian trade exchanges, imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities.
He indicated that the Kingdom's exports to the Palestinian market amounted to JD202 million last year, compared with about JD47 million in imports.
Hajj Tawfiq stressed the importance of boosting cooperation in the coming period and activating the memorandum of understanding signed by the two chambers.
He stressed the significance of supporting and promoting Palestinian products through joint exhibitions and promotion campaigns.
Attari praised support of the ACC and the Jordanian private sector to the Palestinian private sector to back its "resilience" in facing the Israeli economic policies.
Attari noted difficulties facing businesspeople travel to and from Palestine due to the Israeli occupation's restrictions.
Jordan, he noted, is Palestine's "vital artery, and the gateway" for other countries globally, including Arab countries, underlining the importance of adopting the port of Aqaba as the main venue for Palestinian imports.

Gaza's civil defence agency said 'Israeli' forces opened fire on crowds of Palestinians trying to collect humanitarian aid in the war-torn Palestinian territory on Sunday, killing 93 people and wounding dozens more. Jordanian army downs 310 drug-laden drones in 6 months amid rising smuggling attempts
The Jordanian Armed Forces have shot down 310 drug-laden drones in the past 197 days, reflecting 'sustained high efficiency in combating intensive smuggling operations,' according to security expert and Senator Ammar Al-Qudah. Al-Qudah explained that drug trafficking gangs operating across the Jordanian border benefit from the 'security vacuum' in southeastern Syria, especially in the southeastern rural areas of Sweida. The smuggling of Captagon pills and hashish is a primary activity for these networks. He also highlighted that smuggled drugs vary from traditional substances like Captagon to new and dangerous narcotics such as crystal meth, which is considered highly perilous due to its strong impact on criminal behavior. Al-Qudah added that these gangs simultaneously attempt to exploit neighboring Iraqi territories to smuggle other substances, including locally manufactured drugs like "green drug," which was previously imported from Iran. Evolving Smuggling Tactics Al-Qudah also addressed the evolution of smuggling methods. He explained that gangs, which previously relied on individuals carrying large quantities of drugs on their backs, failed to breach Jordanian borders due to stringent security monitoring by the army. As a result, these gangs have resorted to more advanced technologies, such as remotely controlled drones, which are particularly active in the southwestern Negev region.

UNRWA: Israel Starves a Million Children in Gaza
Khaberni -UNRWA stated on Sunday that Israel is deliberately starving civilians in Gaza, including a million children, many of whom are suffering from malnutrition and are at risk of death. The agency clarified that it has enough food for all the residents of Gaza for more than three months, stored in warehouses on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing. On its X platform account, UNRWA called for lifting the blockade on the Gaza Strip and allowing the entry of food and medicine. The international agency stated, "Lift the blockade: Allow UNRWA to bring in food and medicine. UNRWA appealed to the Israeli authorities saying, "Lift the blockade, allow UNRWA to do its work and help those in need, including a million children." This comes amid an increase in the number of children who have died due to malnutrition in Gaza to 71 children, according to the Media Office in Gaza. Earlier, Hamas announced an urgent popular and official mobilization to stop this heinous crime and save hundreds of thousands of starving people who are besieged. Meanwhile, the Islamic Jihad Movement said that the cases of starvation and mass death in Gaza are the result of systematic occupation policies, adding that "the occupying army has established a militarized network through what is called the Gaza Humanitarian Institution and turned it into traps to kill the starving." Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, which includes killing, starving, destruction, and displacement, ignoring international calls and orders issued by the International Court of Justice to stop it. The genocide has resulted in more than 198,000 Palestinians killed or injured - most of them children and women - in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced persons and a famine that has claimed the lives of many residents of the sector. The Media Office confirmed that the number of deaths due to lack of food and medicine has risen to 620 amid intensifying famine and prevention of the humanitarian distribution of aid. The Ministry of Health in Gaza stated that unprecedented numbers of starving citizens of all ages are reaching emergency departments in conditions of severe exhaustion and fatigue. It warned that hundreds of those whose bodies were emaciated would be prone to inevitable death due to hunger and their bodies' inability to endure.
