Nagpur: The city is witnessing a significant infrastructure boom, with several major projects progressing simultaneously. In a major development, two new flyovers are set to open to the public in the coming days, promising much-needed relief from traffic congestion in East Nagpur.The two flyovers — one from Itwari to Bhandewadi (Road over Bridge or RoB), and another from Lakadganj police station to Wardhaman Nagar — are expected to decongest these busy areas and substantially reduce travel time.
Both projects were constructed by the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC), also known as MahaRail, as part of their ongoing multi-crore infrastructure drive in the city.The flyovers were initiated following consistent efforts by East Nagpur MLA Krishna Khopde and are expected to significantly benefit local residents and commuters.According to MRIDC sources, the first flyover — connecting Lakadganj Police Station and Wardhaman Nagar — is built along Old Bhandara Road. "The flyover was constructed at an estimated cost of around ₹135 crore, fully funded by the urban development department of the Maharashtra government. It is a two-lane structure and most of the work has already been completed," the sources said.Spanning 1.37 km, the flyover will connect two densely populated areas that frequently experience traffic jams due to a high concentration of shops and commercial establishments. "The construction was completed ahead of schedule," added the sources.The second project — a Road over Bridge (RoB) — spans the Nagbhid section of the South East Central Railway at Dipti Signal. "This RoB connects Itwari to Bhandewadi. The main portion is fully constructed, while an additional arm towards Kalamna is still under construction and will require another one and a half months to complete," said MRIDC officials.The 722-metre-long RoB was built at a cost of approximately ₹50 crore, fully funded under the Setu Bandhan Scheme of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The structure features two lanes and two arms for better connectivity.With structural work on both flyovers now complete, final finishing touches are underway. MRIDC is planning an official inauguration, expected to take place either by the end of this month or early next month.

JDA yet to complete ROB, railway plans new project
1 2 Jaipur: At a time when the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is yet to complete the construction of barely 700 metre long Civil Lines Railway Overbridge (ROB), there are plans to construct another ROB connecting Bani Park and Hasanpura sides of the railway station. Although experts are apprehensive about major chaos along the railway station if both constructions continue simultaneously on both sides of the Ajmer Road Puliya, JDA officials have claimed that they are trying their best to complete the construction of the Civil Lines RoB before the construction work for the proposed RoB starts. "We set a revised deadline of Dec this year to complete the construction of Civil Lines ROB. Even if we miss the deadline, we are hopeful to complete the Civil Lines ROB before railways start the construction work for the proposed ROB. It would take a few more months to commence the construction of the proposed ROB," stated a JDA official. On the Hasanpura side, railways would utilise lands of its own colony. Recently, during a Projects Work Committee meeting of JDA, the civic body sanctioned the GAD (General Arrangement Drawing) of the project, giving its approval to railways to construct the ROB. "Earlier, there were plans to construct an underpass jointly by the railways and the public works department (PWD). But in the feasibility report, it was mentioned that an underpass is not viable. So, now it has been decided to construct a ROB instead," said an official. This would be the fifth means to cross the railway line within a stretch of around 4km between the Bais Godam and Bani Park Ram Mandir. Out of the remaining four, the Civil Lines flyover, the Ajmer Road Puliya and the Railway Station Puliya (connecting the ITC Rajputana Hotel and Jal Mahal Chouraha) are already operational. JDA is constructing the ROB at the Civil Lines Phatak. "The Hasanpura side of the railway junction is getting a major facelift. Once the renovation work is over, a huge footfall of passengers is expected on the Hasanpura side of the railway station. This proposed ROB can reduce traffic pressure on the Railway Station Puliya to a great extent," said a PWD official.

Sankar Vilas flyover in Guntur set for demolition on July 20
Guntur: Decks have been cleared for bulldozing of the Sankar Vilas flyover in Guntur city as the district administration directed the police and civic authorities to take immediate alternative measures to divert the traffic. The old flyover will be razed down to construct a new one. The traffic on the flyover will be stopped from next Wednesday. The R&B department, the nodal agency to construct the new flyover, has decided to start bulldozing of the existing flyover from July 20 and asked the line departments to take adequate measures to handle the vehicular movement through alternative routes. Taking the R&B department's decisions into consideration, district collector Nagalakshmi asked the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) and city traffic police to stop vehicular movement on Sankar vilas flyover route from July 16 itself. In fact, a year has passed since the Centre sanctioned 98 crore to take up the new Road over Bridge (RoB) by replacing the 65-year-old flyover near Sankar vilas junction. The district administration took more than 10 months to complete the spade work before the launch of the construction. Surprisingly, the govt has not completely cleared the compensation to the building owners who will be losing their precious properties on the main road of brodipet. GMC authorities have been asked to ensure that key alternative roads-three bridges junction and Pattabhipuram road under bridge (RUB) were not flooded during the monsoon season. The GMC has geared up with diesel motors and operators to handle the emergencies to pump out the water. Similarly, the potholes on all the exit and entry routes have been taken up on war footing basis to allow the free flow of traffic during the construction of the new flyover. The traffic DSP Ramesh made a whirlwind visit of the city and initiated measures to remove the bottlenecks. The vehicle parking slot near APSRTC bus stand and auto parking area have been evacuated to prevent the traffic jam. Similarly, the traffic diversions were initiated near Donka Road, kuglar hospital road, Chuttugunta junction and GMC office. The vehicle parking area has been removed at Lalapet police station and street vendors were also removed from the vegetable market area. Traffic police decided to deploy additional teams near key junctions to clear the traffic jams after diversion of the traffic. "We will suggest the educational institutions in and around the city which operated buses via Pattabhipuram flyover to change the opening and closing times by 30 minutes to 45 minutes to reduce the traffic jam," said a senior police official. More than 200 schools and colleges operate buses through the city roads. But among the ultra-wealthy, inheritances often take the form of billion-dollar empires. Roughly one-third of the 3,028 billionaires on Forbes' 2024 World's Billionaires List inherited at least part of their fortune. Collectively, these 990 billionaire heirs are worth a staggering $5.3 trillion — $56 billion more than last year. While their total wealth has grown, they now make up a slightly smaller share of the list (33 per cent, down from 34 per cent) as new self-made billionaires continue to rise. At the top are the three heirs of Walmart founder Sam Walton – Rob, Jim and Alice – who inherited their stake in the retail giant and took different paths.
